Go Cubs ??
SiubhanDuinne
@rikyrah:
Yes ma’am!!
TaMara (HFG)
I don’t know if JeffreyW posted his recipe for the Apple Turnovers, but here it is.
And yes, I did pull the post and reschedule it. :-)

Curt Schilling held a trump rally today in Boston

Go Cubs Go! Go Cubs Go! Hey Chicago what do you say? The Cubs are going to win today!
What a masterpiece by Hendricks!

Double Play!! 3 More outs 3 more Outs!!
rikyrah
3.more. outs.

A while back, somebody here posted the old “Soul Train” video of Al Green singing that. Damn he was young! (And, needless to say, quite hawt, though I always feel a little odd saying that about a man of the cloth.)

@TaMara (HFG):
No he didn’t, he said that was your department, so thank you :- )

The announcers better not jinx things before the Series.

Cubbies win the Pennant!!!!!!
rikyrah
They are going to the World Series!!!!!
Mnemosyne
@rikyrah:
Every time I pay attention to the Cubs, they manage to blow the division championship, so I’m deliberately ignoring them.
You’re welcome.

Jill Scott is flat out amazing.*

Wow perfect end

@Adam L Silverman:
This joke is in very poor taste, I must say. ;-)

Cubs vs
BrownsIndians? This means the apocalypse is upon us. Probably during the 9th inning of a tied game 7.Humdog
Dammit! I thought this was the thread safe from scores! Grrrrr
Mnemosyne
@Poopyman:
Nah, that would have been Cubs vs Red Sox before either of them had won the pennant. Fortunately for all mankind, the Cubs blew it and saved us all.
There’s probably a short story in there somewhere …
redshirt
@Mnemosyne: I feel like Lost touched on this in Season 2 when Ben showed Jack the Sox winning the pennant. Something that was hitherto impossible.

@Adam L Silverman: Cuuubbbbiiieeess!

Isn’t there a baseball thread?

Mnemosyne
@Omnes Omnibus:
Meh, nobody was using this thread anyway.
Did you know that Karen Olivo, one of the stars of the Chicago production of Hamilton, was living in Madison? She was a co-star of In the Heights when that was on Broadway, so I’m not entirely sure how she ended up in Madison, but I’m assuming it was relationship-related in some way.
Doctor Science
TaMara:
What is the name of your orange-y rose from the earlier post? I’m planning for spring …
Gravenstone
Co-MVPs! Very nice.
rikyrah
I can’t believe it. Just incredible????
Omnes Omnibus
@Mnemosyne: It got pulled after it bigfooted the dedicated baseball thread. It came back, sans baseball reference and all y’all just migrated here.
Why is that?
Mnemosyne
@efgoldman:
I will shock you now: I have the Hamilton documentary on the DVR and we haven’t watched it yet.
Mnemosyne
@Omnes Omnibus:
I haven’t been following the Cubs because I am a jinx. I am happy now, though.

Thank God they clinched on a Saturday or the entire North Side would be calling in sick on Monday.
Cubs/Indians. Just the series I wanted.
rikyrah
@Mnemosyne:
Me too. Had to watch the game tonight.

@rikyrah:
I texted my mom to tell her what size shirt to buy me. :-)

@efgoldman:
A lot of us would chip in for a reward for that
Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious
So now a former porn star is accusing Trump of sexual misconduct. Not sure how credible this one is but there are now 11 women in total. According to Chump, they are all lying . , and it’s proabably some evil plot by ‘crooked’ Hillary, and he’s gonna sue them all…..haha.
I sure hope someone like Mark Cuban comes forward and promises to pay all their legal fees. Just to twist the knife. Probably just all talk from the small handed tangerine ballsack as usual anyways.
Gin & Tonic
The only baseball fans more obnoxious than Cubs fans are Red Sox fans.
I’ll show myself out, thanks.
Omnes Omnibus
@efgoldman: Oddly, despite liking the thing (Hamilton) since I first heard of it (when Miranda did his performance of a song from it instead of something from The Heights in front of the President), I ma starting to find the whole thing annoying. And that pisses me off. Hamilfans are like middle aged Beliebers.
redshirt
@Gin & Tonic: There’s nothing worse than Yankee fans.
Mnemosyne
@Steve in the ATL:
I’ve actually done that quite a bit in the last few weeks, but people only notice when I do mention Hamilton, not when I don’t.
Gin & Tonic

@Gin & Tonic:
Eff the Cubs.
Go Cleveland!
Right behind you.
redshirt
@Gin & Tonic: No, you’re wrong!
Emma
@efgoldman: You know. that’s not fair. I have read through more threads derailed by sports than I really care to. Equally derailed by photography, food, pets, cars, annoyingly stupid music, and so on. I’ve always found something interesting in them — and if not, I passed right over those comments and moved right along. I suspect I’m not the only one. Why is it so terrible that some people exchange comments on a topic they’re interested in and you’re not?
Omnes Omnibus
@redshirt: Stop trying to make an internet fight happen. When they happen, they tend to be organic.

Steve in the ATL
@redshirt: surely we can all agree that “fuck the Yankees!” is objectively reasonable and appropriate
Joel
@redshirt: cards fans give them a run though.
Omnes Omnibus
@Emma: Analogy: I bought The Police album, Synchronicity the day it came out. Just a few weeks later, it seemed that Every Breath You Take was the only song on the radio. It took about 10 years before I could listen to the album again.
Brachiator
@Omnes Omnibus:
Pretty much how I feel about all baseball fans.
Still, for those who love the Cubs, congrats.

@Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious:

@Joel: Best fans in the game, or so I’ve been told by Joe Buck repeatedly, for years.
Emma
@efgoldman: No, not at all. All sorts of threads. I’m just saying, in spite of being a “pack of snarling jackals” we’re pretty tolerant of each others’ madnesses and foibles. It’s what makes this place so much fun. Let’s not spoil it.
Mnemosyne
@Omnes Omnibus:
Personality difference: during that same time period, I was listening to Synchronicity every. single. day. I don’t mind when things I already like become wildly popular.

Nope. I admire an organization that has a tradition of winning.

Poor G is nursing a nasty cold, so we’re putting it off until tomorrow in the hope that he will be better able to enjoy it. (He is also a fan, but not a Super Fan.)

My campaign-volummteer lodger didn’t show up last night. The organizer-of-lodging called today to say that she had found another place to stay, but that they still need me to host a different volunteer starting on Tuesday and going through Election Day.
I’ve got the spare room tidied up and extra towels ready. Hope it will be a decently restful spot at the end of a long hard day of campaigning. Gotta swing this state!
redshirt
@Mnemosyne: Same. I also went backwards into the Police catalogue as a result. Ghost in the Machine is so good.
Omnes Omnibus
@Mnemosyne: I become bored by it. And, yes, I am bit of a hipster.
Steve in the ATL
@Brachiator: are you aware of *how* they won so many titles? That makes the feat far less impressive.
Emma
@Omnes Omnibus: But if you’re not interested in Hamilton to begin with, why would it discombobulate you to have four or five messages in a very long thread refer to it? And really, Every Breath You Take? The greatest stalker song ever written? What’s not to like?
Steve in the ATL
@Omnes Omnibus: see also “Pride (in the name of love)” by U2

@redshirt: Outlandos D’Amour is the best Police album.

PS Spent a half-day today canvassing favorable-but -infrequent voters in a high value precinct. The most interesting thing that happened was I saw a woman standing in the middle of a leafy suburban street, frozen like a heron in a pose that indicated she was ready to pounce, and wearing nothing but some very skimpy white underwear.
Not sure if this was yoga or performance art.
Mnemosyne
@Omnes Omnibus:
Natural-born fangirl, myself.
Though even G was a little startled at the depth of the Hamilton obsession. I usually only have one per decade that becomes that in-depth. The initial frenzy of my Buster Keaton obsession had started to die down by the time we first met, so he had never really seen me in full swing before.
redshirt
@Emma: Omnes is in Judge mode. Prepare for sentencing.
Gin & Tonic
@Omnes Omnibus: Somehow I have made it through life without owning a single Police album. Or U2.
Omnes Omnibus
@Emma: I said I was interested in it from its beginning.
Brachiator
@Mnemosyne: BTW, I watched “Hamilton’s America” today. Won’t say much about the documentary itself (it’s fun!),but it was a great bit of luck that the musical came along during the Obama administration. I’m not sure that a more white bread president (Romney!???) would have embraced it to the same degree.
And there is a segment of the documentary which features a performance by the cast for a group of students, hosted by the First Lady, that reminds me of how much I am going to miss the Obamas.
Brachiator
@Gin & Tonic:
You poor thing.
Mnemosyne
@Emma:
Omnes is actually the least of the scoffers, and has dropped hints before that he’s a closet fan.
Now when efgoldman and NotMax get rolling, they’re the ones who kinda turn into jerks about it, unfortunately.
Omnes Omnibus
@Gin & Tonic: Proof it can be done, I guess.
Brachiator
@Steve in the ATL:
Like Al Davis said in the prime of the Raiders, just win, baby.
Anoniminous
@Gin & Tonic:
Completely understandable. If you had said you made it through life without owning a single Debussy or Mozart album … that would be weird.

My favorite U2 album by far is Zooropa.
There’s a Johnny Cash song!
Mnemosyne
@Brachiator:
Even just from the show itself, you can tell that Washington is meant to make you think of Obama. One of those lucky things of the right people in the right place at the right time.
I’ve watched parts of the White House student performance and I still can’t believe LMM’s wife let him wear that blue jacket. I mean, really?
Steve in the ATL
@redshirt: Joshua Tree
Omnes Omnibus
@Mnemosyne: I am not a closet fan. I am someone who is annoyed by the Hamilfans. The people who had no idea who Hamilton was prior to LMM who now insist they know everything about the Federalist Papers – just as an example.
Cacti
@Steve in the ATL:
If just having money was enough, the Los Angeles Dodgers should have a stack of pennants and World Series titles since ’88.
Emma
@Omnes Omnibus: My apologies. I can see how a hipster would be bothered by the hoi-polloi finding his interests interesting. Me, I knew a great deal more than most about him, having spent a year studying history at Mr. Jefferson’s University, but I never think of him as personal property.
Steve in the ATL
Cubs win and Ohio State loses–could this day get any better?
redshirt
@Steve in the ATL: The classic, of course, but Zooropa is so damn strange. Electronica for the most part, with Edge riffs, and Bono in full “The Fly” mode. I loved that they changed up their music so much.
Zooropa is also filled with long, awkward silences, which is an obvious artistic choice.
Mnemosyne
@Omnes Omnibus:
I knew who he was, but more from the Reynolds pamphlet and the duel. His Revolutionary War record was new to me, and quite interesting.
But I’m content to let you be the OG fan who liked Hamilton before Hamilton was cool.
Steve in the ATL
@Cacti: the Yankees always had more money than other teams largely from playing in a large market. When another team had financial trouble, the Yankees would pay off the team’s debts in exchange for taking its best players. They essentially bought an all star team every year; there was no need for front office or managerial or player development expertise. They certainly won, but not by demonstrating any skill other than financial dominance.

@Emma:
I don’t see Hamilton as my personal property. I see Hamilfans as doing that. Explaining to people that “He was a …” A good number of people who have read history are aware of these things. Burr was better on feminism and slavery.

@Steve in the ATL: Fucking Yankees. *spits!
Omnes Omnibus
@efgoldman: John Cale is still alive. So is Tom Waits.
Punchy
@Gin & Tonic: If not, several of us die-hard Cubs fans will do it for ya.
Brachiator
@Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious:
. People, especially we Southern Californians joke about Gloria Allred chasing fame. If a camera is pointed somewhere, like a legal Batman, she dons her red Allred suit and jumps into her Gloria-mobile and is off to the rescue.
And here she has also been criticized for being partisan; she is a Democratic Party delegate.
But she does her work, comes prepared, and represents her clients fearlessly. And more often than not, the facts and evidence support her position.
Also, in celebrity related cases, p#rn stars often are very credible. Celebrities and moguls seek them out, and the most popular stars can turn down offers when they are in high demand. The star in question certainly seems the type of blonde beauty that Trump likes.
Mnemosyne
@Emma:
Note the snarky reference from Mr. Omnibus in #93 to Paul Ryan declaring himself a fan of the Federalist Papers in the PBS documentary.
One of us, one of us …
Steve in the ATL
@Omnes Omnibus: one of the greatest lyrics of all time:
You can call me Aaron Burr/by the way I’m dropping Hamiltons
Brachiator
@Steve in the ATL:
Damn Yankees!
Hey, that would make a great title for a musical.
MomSense
@Steve in the ATL:
I am cursed by the Unforgettable Fire. I bought the cassette when it was released and put it in my cassette player which had the cool new auto reverse feature. I promptly fell asleep before the first song even finished. But while I was sleeping that cassette kept playing and to this day I can sing every word of every song on that recording.
Steve in the ATL
@Brachiator: or a shitty hair metal band!
Brachiator
@Mnemosyne: Every time, I saw Ryan in the doc, I’d think, what’s he doing here?
Mnemosyne
@Omnes Omnibus:
Burr was definitely more of a feminist. Not sure if he was truly better on slavery or just had more years to oppose it.
Omnes Omnibus
@Mnemosyne: Actually, while watching the PBS thing last night, I literally shouted at the screen as Ryan conflated the Federalist Society with the Federalist Papers. He is an embarrassment to ne as a Cheesehead and a Delt. Tommy was a Delt embarrassment as well.*
*Yeah, well, why not?
MomSense
@Brachiator:
In my house the rule is that Paul Ryan’s name must be preceded or followed by “fuck you”. We finally watched the special tonight and every time his face popped up on our screen someone yelled out “fuck you”. It’s the only way to see his face and not break the tv.
Mnemosyne
@Omnes Omnibus:
Also, too, by “OG fan,” I mean someone who was interested in Alexander Hamilton before the musical was written. IIRC, Brachiator is in the same group, but we converted him to loving the musical, too.
Steve in the ATL
@Omnes Omnibus: didn’t realize you were a tri-delt
Omnes Omnibus

Steve in the ATL
@Omnes Omnibus: yes, I know.
Mnemosyne
@Omnes Omnibus:
Even I, a non-lawyer, know by now that the Federalist Society basically believes the exact opposite of everything that was written in the Federalist Papers. But my career doesn’t depend on pretending otherwise, unlike Ryan’s.
Gin & Tonic
@Omnes Omnibus: I remember that as a *really* obnoxious frat.
Omnes Omnibus
@Mnemosyne: Got it.
Steve in the ATL
@Mnemosyne: law schools are full of assholes, but if you want to quickly identify the most assholish assholes, just look at the federalist society roster
Brachiator
@Omnes Omnibus:
In a way, the musical is as much about Burr as Hamilton, and certainly rescues him (somewhat) from being an obscure Founding Villain.
And in the PBS documentary says something brief, but fascinating about how he approached the character of Burr. A kid who is an aspiring actor would learn much from this, as would anyone interested in drama.
Dork
@Steve in the ATL: Yup. By a light-year.
Omnes Omnibus
@Gin & Tonic: Varies from school to school. We didn’t haze in the early ’80s. Tommy (darling of some) confessed to hazing five or so years after I was in school.
redshirt
@MomSense: Heh. That happened to me with Speaking in Tongues.
Mnemosyne
@Brachiator:
LMM has said many times that, although he plays Hamilton, he’s feels that he’s just as much Burr. Everyone has had those envious moments of wondering why everyone they know is so much more successful than they are, even the guy who has now won a Pulitzer. He was not an overnight success, nor even a particularly youthful success as a playwright.
Gin & Tonic
@Omnes Omnibus: Based on the Delts I was familiar with, Paul Ryan would fit right in.
Brachiator
@MomSense:
I know exactly what you mean! Whenever I saw Dubya, I thought, harmless little dope saying very simple, neutral stuff about history. But whenever I saw Ryan, I wanted to throw something. I was, however, watching the program on my tablet, and that was the only thing at hand I could have thrown. So, I had to restrain myself.
redshirt
@Omnes Omnibus: Ah, frat talk. So nothing untoward happened at your frat? Just a group of serious students joining together to study better and engage in more community orientated activities?
Dork
@Steve in the ATL: Holy shit, OSU lost?
MomSense
@Brachiator:
I think he angers me more than all the other Republican elected officials. He has a certain evil je ne sais quoi that makes me want to punch him.
Omnes Omnibus
@Gin & Tonic: The majority of my local brothers are Dems. Including WI Dem legislators and John Kerry’s spokesbot. We may have been snobs, but we weren’t assholes. We had black, white, Indian, Jewish, and whatever members.
Omnes Omnibus
@redshirt: We got drunk a lot. We also were not politically correct.
redshirt
@Omnes Omnibus: I’m sure. An environment that is usually quite healthy for women.
Brachiator
@Mnemosyne:
Yep. This is also a theme of the recent film, Don’t Think Twice, about an improv troupe that has problems when one of them gets a tv show.
Steve in the ATL
@Omnes Omnibus: we had white guys in my fraternity too! And a Jewish guy. No black guys though–there weren’t enough in the school to put one on each of the 17 fraternities.
And, even though we drank a lot and our brotherhood was about 30% lacrosse players, there was no sexual assault.
Nor was there any homoerotic stuff, not that there’s anything wrong with that.
Omnes Omnibus
@redshirt: Ever been around a sorority? They can be horrifying.
To answer your implicit question, to my knowledge, no women were abused at our parties.
Steve in the ATL
@Omnes Omnibus: no shit. Sorority rush has to be one of the cruelest rituals on earth.
No offense to the sorority girls in my family, including but not limited to my daughters, wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and various aunts and cousins.
Omnes Omnibus
@Steve in the ATL: We were about 30% Jewish. 10% Black and most of the rest WASPish. We were the Frat that played funk at our parties. And had Wednesday night dinners with a prof.

@Steve in the ATL: Perhaps not all law schools, but at least some of those attending the A Scalia School of Law (ASSOL).
JR in WV
@Omnes Omnibus:
I’m thinking Trump thought (inasmuch as he can be assumed to think at all) that a porn star was walking free range pu$$y, with an emphasis on $$.
Which is not the case, because porn stars work after consenting to their role, and signing a contract to be paid for the work before appearing on a set, with not just witnesses but film/video rolling.
That consent thing again. He just cannot understand that people in America have personal integrity that you can’t violate. People must consent to any relationship other people have with them. Trump can’t even ask women to consent, with the possible exception of one or two of his wives.
A hideous person indeed. Dog help us if he gets elected, even if he doesn’t. I will never forgive Republicans for thrusting this abomination upon the nation. If I hadn’t already been a Yellow Dog Democrat, this would make me one!
Omnes Omnibus

JR in WV
@Steve in the ATL:
Since WVU is undefeated, and OSU is not, that’s a good thing. But watching the game at dinner after the symphony this evening, I found it strange to hope that Penn State would win, as Joe Paterno no doubt facilitated Jerry Sandusky’s molestation of young men and boys. And they still can’t end their hero worship of such a flawed person.
Sad.
But still, WVU is undefeated, and OSU is not!! Yay!
Omnes Omnibus

Watching “Seahawks Saturday Night” replay of last game with Russel Wilson mic’ed. Noticing how different the way he talks to his o-line and the way I talk to my crew. My foredeck guy would laugh in my face if I started yelling, “we’re all in this together! Get physical! C’mon man, we’re all in this together!”
I tend to say, “we’re going lower…..lower….ok puff coming in 10…”
Mike J
@Mike J: Of course he’s having a better season.

Argh!
An earlier comment should have read:
And in the PBS documentary, Leslie Odom, Jr says something brief, but fascinating about how he approached the character of Burr. A kid who is an aspiring actor would learn much from this, as would anyone interested in drama.
“Hamilton’s America” is fun, not just for adding to “Hamilton” fame, but for how it showcases working actors and actresses.

@Mnemosyne: well, at 12 Penn State sent out a notice not to block roads for safety. At 12:52 we got this: 01PSU Alert U-P: Avoid downtown State College. Crowd is an unlawful disturbance. Leave the area or be subject to arrest.

Easy to explain: I would rather vote for that Yaller Dawg over there than any Republican for anythang!
I’m past voting for Republicans, ever, for anything, because they have resigned from the democracy. In the distant past I may have voted for a Republican for local office, but such a vote will never darken my mind again, ever. Republicans are no longer eligible for elected office.

Let me just say how beautiful Kerry’s victory speech would have been. Copley Square, with the Boston Public Library as the backdrop. We were all there, waiting to hear the news of victory…..
To my shame my first Presidential vote was for GHW Bush. And I think he did a fine job, especially considering the volatility of the time. But since then I’ve never voted for an R and never will and am pretty passionate telling others to do the same.

Penn State has a long history of riots. The town has a pretty low tolerance for it. Apparently the students pulled down a lamppost and that brought out the police in riot gear and horses. I had no idea they had horses.
Student paper has some video. Relatively peaceful rioting until they started tearing down lamp posts and street signs

@JR in WV:
Not a Paterno apologist but *legally*, it strongly appears that the university president and two high-ranking administrators above Paterno facilitated this sick child molestor (Spanier, Curley, and Schultz); not Paterno — despite the spin by the MSM.
Paterno’s linens were likely not lily white, but he did in fact do the right thing (as defined by existing laws and university policies at the time) by reporting McQueary’s disclosure to his superiors. The willful lack of follow-through is theirs, not Paterno’s.
Ethically? As Paterno himself said, “In retrospect, I wish I’d done more”. Meaning: knowing now that this matter was not properly handled, he was as horrified as any other rational human being at Sandusky’ actions and the cover-up by his superiors.
Those three fuckers — if they don’t entirely weasel out of this due to accidental legal misrepresentation (or more accurately “non-representation”) by the university attorney — are the ones who own this horric mess and should suffer stringent consequences.
The reporting laws have since been changed (largely as a result of this case, I believe) and Paterno and McQueary both could now report to the police, rather than their superiors. Going to the police at the time (maybe for McQueary, a direct witness, but undoubtedly for Paterno) would have been a violation of university policy and possible grounds for dismissal.
Bad laws and authoritarian university policies (at the time) do not make Paterno the villain that he is made out to be. He’s simply the most well-known of those involved. He was well liked by students because he was a straight-talker and encouraged athletic, academic, and personal excellence. His candor and independent thinking did NOT make him popular with The Powers That Be.
Sad, sad situation. No wonder over 60% of faculty and staff at Penn State indicated they would not report misconduct in an internal survey done a couple years ago. Retaliation is a special dish perfected by (former) President Spanier during his two decades of intolerance at the helm. While he’s gone, his crew of willing henchmen continue to prosper.
Yet another fine example of institutional power devoid of adequate checks and balances. Yee haw!

@BellyCat: Wow. That’s quite a lot of rationalization for one comment. Paterno belongs in the pit with the rest of them. He had evidence that should have led him to be suspicious as far back as the 1970s, long before any of the rest were in any position of power at PSU. And the individual who bears the responsibility for Sandusky being employed at Penn State and running his fucking camp there, giving him access to his victims is St. Joseph of State College. Sandusky was his guy, and if he’d wanted a different defensive coordinator, no one in the state would have stood in his way. Instead, he did the absolute minimum that he could get away with, and hid behind horrific university policies as an excuse for not doing any more.

@Tissue Thin Pseudonym:
Paterno was not a Sandusky fan and pushed to get rid of him as (initially ignored) evidence piled up. He also sought to have him banned from locker rooms once he was gone, but was unsuccessful in this effort.
Again, not a Paterno fanboy, but interested in the true monsters in this situation being acknowledged and punished.

@BellyCat: It’s possible to want Curley, Spanier, and the rest to be punished without absolving Paterno. Aside from not taking any action against Sandusky for a couple of decades after he should have known what was going on, he almost certainly perjured himself when he attested that the 2001 incident reported by McQueary was the only one he had knowledge of, and there is a good deal of evidence that he pressured the others in not taking the McQueary accusation to the police. He may not have liked Sandusky, but, for whatever reason (my hunch is that not tarnishing the Penn State legacy publicly was, at least subconsciously, his main motivation), he chose to ignore the fact that his program was being used to molest children.
He deserves the total destruction of his reputation, and it reflects poorly on much of the PSU community that they don’t understand that. My sister is on the faculty there, and has horror stories about dealing with his defenders.

@Tissue Thin Pseudonym: I think you are pretty close to the truth about Paterno. I also have a feeling that Paterno underestimated the degree to which Sandusky was interested in young boys. If your sister is on the faculty there, she will know that mountains are made into molehills with great regularity. It was simply inconceivable that Sandusky’s affection for young boys was a sexual one. Rather, his advocacy for troubled youth at 2nd mile was thought to be his primary interest. Yes, he was overly friendly. Everyone knew that. The idea that this interest was sexual was inconceivable until the reports seemed too frequent to ignore.
Yes, I agree, the Paterno defenders are fearsome and willing to overlook just about anything. Did he perjure himself in the grand jury investigation? I have to agree, it seems that way since he mentions no other reports. Of late, it appears this is not true. Unfortunately, he is not here to address this aspect, so we will never know the full truth.
My wife and I are intimately familiar with the University — at the highest level there is too much money and not enough oversight. Unethical behavior is the norm, unfortunately.
Old Maine is blinded by money and power. Paterno was blinded by ambition. Both require continuous positive imaging. For Spaniar to claim that the report from Paterno was purely about “horse play” was a bridge too far. Especially once it was discovered that there was a bill for four hours from the University attorney on a Sunday after the report.
For this reason, and this reason alone, Spaniar is the mastermind behind this cover-up and should pay severely.
