Or, sometimes, stone. Per the Washington Post:
Video shows a man smashing Donald Trump’s star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame with a sledgehammer and pickax, destroying the Hollywood marker that honors the current Republican presidential nominee.
Police received a call around 6 a.m. Wednesday, and officers who arrived at the Hollywood Walk of Fame confirmed that the star had been vandalized, a Los Angeles Police Department spokesman said. The investigation is ongoing and there are no suspects.
Deadline was the first to post the video of a man dressed in a city construction worker’s uniform destroying Trump’s star. According to the outlet, the man said he planned to auction off the star and give the money to women who have accused the Republican presidential nominee and former “Apprentice” host sexual assault…
In January, a photo showing a swastika spray-painted over the star made the rounds online, and police investigated. The Hollywood Chamber quickly cleaned the symbol off of the star.
About six months later, an artist erected a mini-wall around the marker on the Walk of Fame, a nod to Trump’s promise to build a border wall between the United States and Mexico…
Wonder if @realDonaldTrump paid out of pocket for his star? @Fahrenthold https://t.co/hsMaSFtup7

Nope. I'm told "a fan" paid. https://t.co/dqAsmRGdHh

FSM I cannot wait for this election to be over and for our country to be down with Donald.
And he’ll be disappeared so quickly once he loses, you won’t believe.
Major Major Major Major
@Trentrunner: odds that he blames the international conspiracy of, you know… bankers and media types…?
Mnemosyne
Meh. I’m not big on vandalism, even against someone I hate.
Waiting for the (movie theater broadcast of the) opera to start. These old people are very talkative.

He might disappear, but Trumpism isn’t going anywhere.
SenyorDave
WTF is going on in state polls in Florida, especially with regard to the senate race? Suddenly Rubio is up by 9 points against Murphy, and Trump is up by 2 points. I know state polls bounce around a lot, but that is pretty contrary to the trendlines. I just came back north from a week in South Florida, and was amazed at the number of signs for Trump, particularly in the Fort Lauderdale area.. Unfortunately, I think the rigged message resonates pretty well in that state, and i think there is a large amount of white resentment.
JMG
@SenyorDave: One poll. Only poll of last 14 to show Trump leading. Two others today show him trailing. If you’re worried, do something.
Mnemosyne
It’s 15 minutes past the start time for this show and no sign of it starting. Seems like a bad sign.

I can only hope that his falling star brings down the obstructionists like Grassley and Ayotte. The new plan for the thugs is to keep the supreme court open till 2020.

Trump’s star was paid for by someone else. I think the name was John Miller. Said Trump is a great guy and very deserving of the star.

@dogwood: Trumpism is just Wingnutism. It’s not new. He just gave it a loud and proud voice. Without Donald firing up the racists, it will be like it was before Donald – “respectable” Repukes speaking in code for their racist supporters.

@JMG: I think there were actually three, one with Clinton ahead 2 and two with her ahead 3. Of course, CNN is only talking about the Selzer poll because she is legend….but FL ain’t IA. The wacky Remington poll that had Trump with 20+ percent of the black vote in FL only had it tied. And Dems are neck-and-neck with Republicans in early voting in FL, where the GOP usually far exceeds Dems in that category. Wouldn’t worry too much about one poll. Wouldn’t get complacent but the sky is not falling. And the states where she’s almost certainly not going to lose give her 270 already….that’s without Florida.
M. Bouffant
I can assure you the star was paid for by the Apprentice production company, NBC or both, as part of the publicity budget, no matter what the Hollywood Chamber of Commerce may say.
SenyorDave
@JMG: I understand its one poll. But if you read the article, the poll shows trump leading Clinton among Hispanics in the Miami area. I understand that would be due to the Cuban influence, but it is still pretty jaw-dropping.
I do think Hispanics are going to go more strongly for Clinton than the polls indicate. Hispanics who respond to any type of marketing by phone or mail are only a subset of all Hispanics, and political polls tend to mirror market for Hispanics (response rate for Hispanics is almost always significantly lower for Hispanics than whites or African Americans. I work for a company that does a large amount of mail/phone surveys). I just hope that turnout is strong for POC.
SenyorDave
@Anoniminous: Have been involved, did two days of phone canvassing two weeks ago in VA (I’m from MD where Clinton is 25 – 30 points ahead). And this is by far the most I’ve ever contributed in a political cycle. I’m a glass half full type of person by nature, so I worry.

OGLiberal
@SenyorDave: If she’s leading with Hispanics in the Miami area and if it’s due to Cubans than it’s either a one poll aberration or they got responses from a lot of old landline Cubans because it’s my understanding that younger Cubans don’t care much about the Castro/Cold War stuff.
Anybody know if Selzer polled the general in FL previously this election cycle?

A story about some of the less than savory behind the scenes stuff at the Clinton Global Initiative. A quick reads seem no wrong doing but just not a pretty picture. Chelsea Comes offs looking good IMHO after she charged in and removed a knucklehead that either Bill tolerated or was too oblivious to take stock of.
Nonetheless, glad its now under two weeks.

OGLiberal
@OGLiberal: Just checked myself. Seems, no, so no benchmark and no experience. Not saying Selzer is bad or even wrong, but definitely an outlier, even among polls released on the same day. Outside of the fever swamp of wingnuttia there have been no major stories or revelations for days….what would explain this sudden swing to Trump in contradiction to many other recent polls there? Nothing to worry about, and I often let polls worry me.

@SenyorDave:
Trend lines are something that the mathematically illiterate say (not blaming you; it is the media’s fault for talking about them). It is nonsensical to talk about trends between different polls with different methodologies.

I’m not without means to emigrate to escape the worst of it. Washington and Manhattan might be sizzling radioactive ruins after the nuclear IEDs, but the EU-Chinese-UN peacekeepers will do a good job rounding up guns and running the remaining citizenry through de-Trumpification as a process.
NonyNony
@Walker: Trend lines only matter if you’re talking about the trend of the averages. And even there you have to have a sufficient number of polls in the same time period to average across. Trend lines from poll to poll are mostly meaningless. And there’s been a dearth of state polling this year – news agencies don’t seem to want to pay to do it anymore or something.
Omnes Omnibus
@Botsplainer:
Well, bully for you. Shitloads of people aren’t.
Calouste
@OGLiberal: I think Selzer said a while back that she was using likely voter screens close to the ones from 2004. How a pollster can’t realize that that will miss the demographic changes that have taken place over the last 12 years I can’t understand. Maybe Iowa is still as white as it was 12 years ago, but most of the country has seen at least a 5% shift.
jl
@NonyNony: Yeah, that made me chuckle too. The wall stunt was cute and made a nice statement. Petty vandalism is not cute, and does not make a nice statement during an election campaign. And it is probably counterproductive in persuading voters on the fence in coming over to the Dems. Likely to turn people off of voting altogether.

@Calouste:
The assumption they’re making is that minority voters only showed up to vote for Obama because he’s black, and therefore their engagement with the political process was a “novelty” that won’t carry over for Clinton and so the country will shift back to “normal” with this election – i.e. a world where people of color vote in lower percentages than they did in ’08 and ’12.
What this says about the mindset of the pollsters deciding that’s the right choice is left as an exercise to the reader. Except to point out that if you look at the demographic breakdowns of presidential elections from and plot the growth of the size of the African-American and Hispanic demographics from ’92 through ’12, the change doesn’t look like a huge spike happened in 2008 – it looks like the natural extrapolation you’d expect to see in growth that started in ’96 (Hispanic voters jumped from 2% of the electorate in ’92 to 5% in ’96 then 7% in ’00, 8% in 04, 9% in ’08 and 10% in ’12. African-American voters jumped from 8% in ’92 to 10% in ’96 and ’00, 11% in ’04 and 13% in ’08 and ’12. None of those are huge jumps except for the jump in ’96. I wonder if that might not be a combination of the impact of the Motor Voter law and the Clinton GOTV efforts in ’96 turning more young non-voters into voters as soon as they could drive. They say that if you become a voter when you’re young you’ll fall into the habit and keep doing it as you age).

@SenyorDave:
For an understanding of what is going on in Florida, with the early vote follow Steve Schale, he was Obama’s guy in Florida, and he told him the day before the election that he had won Florida, based on the early vote, while the media and all the pollsters were saying it was too close to call ie a tossup, he knew that based on who had voted and where that Obama had it won. He puts out an update each morning, and there is a link to his twitter feed at the link.
Relax the EV is now tied, so it looks like we are in good shape. Hillary needs to carry the state by 4 to 5 points to get Rubio kicked to the curb.

Trump’s star should not be repaired; rather it should be removed. Do we really need to treat a sexual predator like a celebrity?
Given Trump’s addiction to recognition and fame, removal of his star would come as a huge humiliation, which is probably the worst punishment we’re ever likely to get for Trump. He deserves no less.
