I’m

@Major Major Major Major: And this song is horribly triggering for people born by caesarian section, too!
My friends and I are Olds, we need someone to tell us about the latest inventions in human sexuality. (Pro tip: Very little of the mechanics, and none of the sociology, is actually very new. But you knew that.)

@Anne Laurie:
I suppose playing card games with strippers is kind of old hat.

I’m going to have to tell Siubhan Duinne that, unfortunately, my opera simulcast SUCKED:
– They put us in the wrong theater at the multiplex (AMC Burbank 16), didn’t figure it out until 20 minutes after the show was supposed to start, and made everyone get up and change theaters.
– They didn’t turn the house lights on until halfway through intermission, and then didn’t turn them back off until at least a half-hour after the show re-started.
– In fact, they couldn’t figure out how to keep the lights off, so they kept turning on and turning back off throughout the entire second half of the show.
– WE DID NOT SEE THE END. During the final aria, the picture suddenly switched to AMC commercials with the opera audio in the background, and they apparently couldn’t figure out how to fix it, so they just turned the house lights on and handed out rain checks. Which, by the way, won’t work for the opera broadcasts because those are managed by Fathom Events.
The opera itself was fine, but Jesus fuck am I never going to that fucking hellhole of a theater ever again. And, yes, I have sent emails detailing all of this to both AMC and Fathom.

@Mnemosyne: Ugh, that sucks, sorry to hear it.

Have yet to stumble across that quest in WoW.

G has become strangely obsessed with a British game show called “8 out of 10 Cats Do Countdown,” which is a weird combination of a panel comedy show and Boggle.

@Mnemosyne
That’s Jimmy Carr’s show, isn’t it? Amusing as a guest panelist on QI, he.

Anyone seen Elle (2016)?
Mnemosyne
@NotMax:
That’s the one. I suspect that he thinks he could be Jimmy if he really wanted to be a game show host.

Was just reading a NYT article on research that suggests dogs respond not only to the tone in which you speak to them but the content too. Fascinating!

I know a stripper who would totally dance to that song. Once. Then the management would freak out and ban it.

@David ?▶️Bad Hombres▶️? Koch: Here’s hoping these guys aren’t just angling for clicks and that some giant scandal rocks the Trump campaign. Run up the score!

Grapevine:
1. everyone says Trump is on video using N word
2. some say docs exist of Trump paying for abortions of mistresses
3. some say photos exist of Trump doing blow with underage girls
What complicates disclosure is Clinton campaign is holding material in reserve to counter possible wikileaks/Putin printing false disinformation.

@David ?▶️Bad Hombres▶️? Koch: The problem is, none of those revelations will bother Trump’s supporters at all. They’ve rationalized so much already, I’m not sure video of Trump devouring a live baby would bother them.

For some reason (boredom? masochisim? stupidity?) I read Thomas Friedman’s & Ross Douthat’s columns today (not gonna link, you all know where to find them) and as per usual they are eulogizing the “good” GOP of yore. They both seem to believe that beneath the sexist, racist, bigoted shell there exists a party of ideas that is fundamental to the health of the nation and the sooner the intellectuals in the party can cast off the rednecks, hardhats and snake handlers that make up the base and reconstitute the party as it should be the better off we’ll all be — because truly they are the party of liberty and economic wisdom. I’m getting so sick of hearing about how badly this country needs a healthy center-right party to counterbalance the excesses of progressivism. IMO no, it doesn’t — their “ideas” are crappy and wrong and every time they are in power and try to enact them we all have to suffer through an economic collapse and abrogations of our individual rights (except for where guns are concerned). Maybe, just maybe, we’d be better off without a center-right party fucking everything up every time they’re in charge. It’s irresponsible to let someone drive drunk — how is putting Dump, Ryan and McConnell in charge any different?

@Major Major Major Major: OK, so late to this thread, but I gotta hear more about the card game with strippers someday…

Love this video. It pokes fun at the “I gave birth to myself” contingent. The ‘independent’ guys who are allergic to admitting they ever were defenseless or needed help: ” I raised my own damn self, breastfed myself, changed my own goddam diapers”, and etc.
In point of fact, they are very uncomfortable even recognizing that they ever were dependent on anyone for anything, particularly a WOMAN! For the world to change, this has to change, IMHO.

@Mnemosyne:
This was the simulcast from the Met? I saw the TRISTAN UND ISOLDE recently, but we didn’t go to the (awful) AMC theatres, we have Regal out here in the Philadelphia area. Very comfortable, and they got the intermissions just right. (Also, alcohol available, so I could nap through the second act). The did turn up the lights during the credits, which I thought was premature, but other than that, aces. I have always found the Regal theatres quite well-kept.
