Since beloved commentor & party-sparker EFGoldman likes the idea, we’ll be getting together at Su Chang’s, in Peabody — just down the road from the Northshore Mall. Their food is great (we first heard of the place from visiting Cantonese friends-of-friends), very reasonably priced, and there’s plenty of free parking.
Because it’s a Saturday, I’m thinking a start time of 4:30pm or 5pm would be good… that should give everyone time to catch up on weekend errands/business, while giving anyone coming from farther away time to enjoy themselves before we all turn into pumpkins. Opinions?

Alas — priorly engaged.
Next time — in/near the Hub!

I have another possible meetup here on the opposite coast — it looks like I’m going to be in San Francisco on 11/19, but I’ll have to be in Oakland for my flight by, like 5 or 6 pm. Brunch, maybe?

@Mnemosyne:
Dammit. Why can’t this country be the size of, say, Andorra or Liechtenstein, so more of us could get to BJ meetups?
I blame Obama.

I’m in, the menu sounds delicious.

@SiubhanDuinne:
As you should.

I bought three big bags of candy on Amazon and ran out just when the little ones were done and the giant teenagers with no costume except dirt on their faces showed up with their pillowcases. Every parent had a costume, plus most of the dogs. Probably 200 kids, which is low for this area and a lot more fun.

I won’t be in Boston this weekend, sorry. In a food-related story, the BBC has sad news: a shopping centre in Kuching, the capital of Sarawak, prepared 600kg of Sarawak laksa (that’s a v tasty spicy fish and rice-noodle soup) and wound up throwing it way because it had started to go off. Apparently they forgot to plan for having someone to feed it to.
Gin & Tonic
@Amir Khalid: It’s not Boston, it’s fucking Peabody. Easily a half-hour away.
Amir Khalid
@Gin & Tonic:
Sorry about the geographical error, but then I haven’t been to Massachusetts in over 20 years.
Mike J
@Amir Khalid: Meh. Everything between Manchester and Providence is “Boston” to people who don’t live there.
Gin & Tonic
@Amir Khalid: It was more of an inside joke to RI people, who will notoriously bitch about having to drive more than 15 minutes.
lahke
But we should all be thankful that this is scheduled for after Halloween, because there’s no getting near Salem in the week before.
SFAW
@Gin & Tonic:
Kinda hard to do in RI, unless you cross the state, realize you forgot something at home, and drive all the way back. Even then, you’re talking a round-trip of 12 minutes, tops.
SFAW
@lahke:
Well, maybe to keep the Halloween spirit going a little longer, we can all go as Barbara Anderson.
Nota bene: Non-Massholes will probably not get the joke.
SFAW
@efgoldman:
Well, I meant “when she was alive,” or is there a different joke you’re making? (Which I, yet again, am not getting.)
Jeff R.
@efgoldman:
Wow, I missed that. And I still get the dead tree edition of the Globe.
Way back when, she did a radio show called “The Governors” with Jerry Williams and Howie Carr where they’d rip into Dukakis for 90 minutes. She was the reasonable one in that group.
Peabody is only an hour away from me, so I will try to make it. The spouse is not a big blog reader like me, but she did enjoy the Tom Tomorrow book event we went to in Hartford last spring. But she’s the extrovert in the relationship so she should be up for it.
SFAW
@efgoldman:
Got it. I have to say, you pretty much encapsulated my sentiments.
She was not as evil as Howard Jarvis, but I don’t think it was for lack of trying.
