Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

They love authoritarianism, but only when they get to be the authoritarians.

Relentless negativity is not a sign that you are more realistic.

Tick tock motherfuckers!

Biden: Oh no. We’ve upset Big Pharma again.

Usually wrong but never in doubt

Republicans in disarray!

Let me eat cake. The rest of you could stand to lose some weight, frankly.

We are builders in a constant struggle with destroyers. let’s win this.

Republicans don’t lie to be believed, they lie to be repeated.

Putin dreamed of ending NATO, and now it’s Finnish-ed.

Shallow, uninformed, and lacking identity

Let us savor the impending downfall of lawless scoundrels who richly deserve the trouble barreling their way.

The republican speaker is a slippery little devil.

You don’t get rid of your umbrella while it’s still raining.

Meanwhile over at truth Social, the former president is busy confessing to crimes.

Republicans want to make it harder to vote and easier for them to cheat.

‘Museums aren’t America’s attic for its racist shit.’

When I decide to be condescending, you won’t have to dream up a fantasy about it.

This has so much WTF written all over it that it is hard to comprehend.

“And when the Committee says to “report your income,” that could mean anything!

I’d try pessimism, but it probably wouldn’t work.

You are so fucked. Still, I wish you the best of luck.

It’s not hopeless, and we’re not helpless.

Never entrust democracy to any process that requires Republicans to act in good faith.

Hello! Let’s make a calendar.

by Beth|  November 1, 20169:45 pm| 41 Comments

This post is in: Nature, Open Threads, Pet Rescue

FacebookTweetEmail

in case i haven’t completely broken the site with this post, it’s pets of balloon juice calendar time. sales of the calendar (through cafe press) benefit a small rescue organization chosen by john cole.

since i’m getting a later start than usual but still want to hit a late november publication date, can you all send me your pet photos ASAP, please?

all the details: you should send me the highest resolution image you have. if you’d like your pet’s name immortalized in the calendar, include the name in the file name or in the email you are sending me with the image file. if you have more than one pet, be sure to list their names in a way that’s mostly obvious. if you send me a photo by the deadline or before i finish laying out the page, i will get it in the calendar. pinkie swear.

deadline: friday, 18 november

email to send the photos to bjcalendar2017 at yahoo dot com. you can send me questions there or ask them here.

Can we vote on the Tunchshot?

Are pics of an obese orange raccoon with a yellow possum on its head OK?
I may have an old pic. I’ll go check.

@jl: Monstrosity! (I’ve got a raccoon and a possum living in my backyard, along with a couple of feral cats). I’m constantly kicking them out of my house, as they both have excellent smell and a taste for catfood. The raccoon is cool as hell…very smart, terrific hearing and sight, pretty docile (although I won’t go within 5 feet of it).
Possums are f’n retarded…one of the dumbest animals I’ve ever come across. I’ve had *multiple* ones get themselves stuck in a corner, even walking right past the door they came in through. And their hearing/vision is pretty bad.

@Keith P.: I do not like raccoons. Because they are smart and ornery. If I have to deal with a smart ornery animal, I prefer a goat.

Edit: if the goat gets too smart and ornery, you can eat it. Which might be a very unPC comment in the annual animal pic calendar announcement, but that is life, people.

    @Keith P.:
We now have the damn possums in MN, this is a very recent thing. Had one on our deck just last night, first live one I have ever seen. The environmental damage we are doing is going to screw up a lot of stuff. No clue what the whole impact of the great rats is but they do not belong here so it will not be positive.

They are also edible, and safer than raccoon, but don’t taste too good.

We have enough kittehs to cover ~3/4 of the year. If we add the fox, groundhog and deer out back I am pretty sure we have enough for the entire year. Can I have an entire month? Not asking for much – I am cool with February.

I’ll be living in the Hilton for 5 days. Very excited. Well, not about the Hilton. About the move.

    @Jeff Spender:

someone told me that 27% of the Republicans that early voted in Florida voted for Clinton.

IIRC, there’s no way of knowing that – the only thing they do with the early votes before Election Day is tabulate the number that come in under each party registration. They don’t tabulate who they voted for until the voting is over on November 8. And it’s not like anyone’s doing exit polls of early voting.
