Went to Raleigh today to pick up a ragdoll kitten, so we spent many hours on the road, had to deal with “big city” traffic, and passed about a million TRUMP signs. But totally worth it to bring home an adorable little furball.

Call me an “Obot” and I’ll say, “You’re damn right.”
Best President in a LOOONG time. Love him.

@Mike in NC: Congratulations. I think we’ll need photos.
David ?ā¶ļøBad Hombresā¶ļø? Koch
I feel bad for Cleveland.
On Saturday one of the cable channels ran “Major League”, the clever 1989 comedy-fantasy about the Indians winning the World Series. The film began by showing how deindustrialization had devastated Cleveland (for people who like to blame nafta, the rust belt was sacked long before).
Then you look at Chicago, and even with it’s issues, it’s a bright, shining, thriving mega metropolis.
So while the Cubs losing streak was 40 years longer, you can help feeling Cleveland needed this more.

Love that man. We are so fortunate to have had him in office for eight years, and so fortunate to have him out there now, speaking on HRC’s behalf. When I think of what John McCain/Sarah Palin might have done, I shudder. When I think of what Trump/Pence could do, it chills me to the bone.
Thanks, Mr. President.

Say, @David ?ā¶ļøBad Hombresā¶ļø? Koch did you see that you made Snopes?
2014 Tweet Predicted Cubs-Indians Extra-Inning World Series?
That is, if you really are the Twitterer who tweeted that tweet.

It’ll be great to see post-politics Obama.

@David ?ā¶ļøBad Hombresā¶ļø? Koch: That was why I was rooting for Cleveland. But still, winning the NBA championship and making this run at the WS helps a great deal to ignore the Browns.

@David ?ā¶ļøBad Hombresā¶ļø? Koch: Cleveland had basketball this year. Chicago had it in the 90s. Give ’em another 20 years.

@Origuy: Pretty cool, isn’t it.
I tell ya, I have a sixth sense about the future. Just check out a couple of my previous predictions, just from this site:

Kisses for my President, a serious documentary about the first woman president, is starting now on TCM.

@Origuy: The Internet showed me some guy’s yearbook quote from 1993 where he called the Cubs world series champs in 2016.
Too bad it was probably in jest and not something he put like $10 on.

I can’t hear City of Lights (from the video) without flashing back to working for Obama in 2008 in Iowa and Colorado.

President Obama has started looking younger again. All this campaigning is good for him. (And knowing he’s nearly done with his great work as president.)
David ?ā¶ļøBad Hombresā¶ļø? Koch
@lamh36: Is that Wrigley Field?
Baud
@WaterGirl: Agree. He’s looking a lot more relaxed.
Villago Delenda Est
@David ?ā¶ļøBad Hombresā¶ļø? Koch: Actually, Major League was about the Indians winning a one game playoff for the ALCS playoff spot (back when there were only two divisions) in a do or die game with the Yankees, aka Satan’s Team.
So, the Indians advanced to the ALCS, in which they were swept by the Mariners.

BLEG: I’d like to give rides to the polls this weekend (and Monday) in Northern Ohio. I live in the Detroit area, but Michigan is sewn up now.
Does anybody have some contacts or good info for the Toledo area?
Thanks!
Jim, Foolish Literalist
Watching Hayes, even after I read that Daily Beast article, I had no idea how bad this FBI thing has gotten.
This guy is a hard core anti-Trump conservative.
I don’t even know what Flynn said, don’t want to.
Joy Reid connecting the dots of Giuliani, the NY FBI office, that stupid ClintonCash book, and the Trump campaign. Go Joy!
Baud
@Barry: Is it really? There have been some mumblings lately about Michigan. Everything is a lie nowadays, so I didn’t put much stock in it, but still glad to hear it from you.
Pogonip
I just got surveyed again but I don’t think it was a legitimate political, I am pretty sure it was a disguised sales call for a magazine called Investor’s Daily. Even if I’d been interested I wouldn’t have been able to buy as I couldn’t understand half of what the kid was saying. He sounded like he’d been recorded at 33 and played back at 78.
When I was a pollster they had us all read through the survey script several times beforehand, so that woyldn’t happen.
David ?ā¶ļøBad Hombresā¶ļø? Koch
@Villago Delenda Est: ya know, I asked if the movie was going to be on the test, and my teacher said no, so I didn’t take complete notes.

@Jim, Foolish Literalist:
Joy is such a pleasure to watch and read on twitter. She’s SO smart and clear. I wonder if it’s because she’s developed a sense of things from watching white male supremacy work from the perspective of a black woman? Naah, that can’t be it.
Pogonip
@divF: Thank you.
Quinerly
@Jim, Foolish Literalist:
Excellent Chris Hayes show tonight!

I’ve already voted and have been trying to tune out the noise of this depressing campaign.
But this cinches it–I want Obama for 8 more years. He’s amazing.
Quinerly
@the Conster, la Citoyenne:
Joy is a national treasure! Born in Brooklyn to a Congolese father and a Guyanese mother. Raised in Denver. Graduate of Harvard. Majored in film?
Pogonip
@Pogonip: Likewise with sales scripts. (I was a well-rounded pest caller.)
Be nice to pest callers. It’s a shitty job. And please don’t ask indignantly “How did you get this number?” These days the answer would be “From a computer randomizer” but the way it was done before that was the “one-up method.” Say Cole’s number is 123-4567. We would call 123-4568, and so on with every number on the phone book page xeroxed for us; that picks up some unlisted numbers. ( Why the client would want unlisted numbers I don’t know, as those people obviously don’t want to be surveyed.). Don’t yell at them, curse at them, blow whistles, or put the baby on the phone. Just say “No thank you” and hang up. They’ll appreciate it.

Well, we have the October Surpriseand it is the bloated ghost of J. Edgar Hoover back from the dead to push his minions in the deep fascist state to topple democracy.

I did not know that! These citizens of immigrants are the fiercest in their devotion to the real ideals of this country. My ancestors were the same, coming here from war torn Europe in the early 20th century, and their adoption of the idea of America, and rejection of nativism.

It’s not clear if the FBI is being considered a person of interest in the investigation.
MisterForkbeard
@Baud: The FBI has investigated whether or not it should be a person of interest and says no. Several agents have however told Fox News that Hillary has been implicated in this attempt to discredit the Clinton campaign, and indictments are imminent.
sukabi
@Jim, Foolish Literalist: Flynn was on some talking head show yesterday and one of the women moderators said something truthful about (putin) Russia’s propensity for jailing journalists, threatening it’s neighbors, ect. Flynn told her to stop talking like that, that we have to work with our friends.

@David ?ā¶ļøBad Hombresā¶ļø? Koch:
Thanks for that reminder. I’ve been half-listening to the parental units* have a complete wank-fest for the past couple months about how NAFTA ruined Indiana. (Full disclosure: they left Indiana more than 30 years ago, so they actually don’t have first hand information and are, per usual, talking out their asses.) I have extremely clear memories of economic devastation and up-close poverty in the late 70s and early 80s. I recall my part-time farmer, part time Chrysler maternal grandfather, full-time Chrysler maternal step-grandmother, and full-time Chrysler maternal step-grandfather** going through multiple layoffs while maternal organism and I were living with them while paternal organism was on an overseas deployment and maternal organism was finishing her degree. Earl Butz did far more damage to the midwest’s economic health than NAFTA, and yet a sainted R gets none of the blame. Ag policy hurts cities less in the short-term, but those cities were surrounded by rural counties full of farmers who spent years in deep hurt.
*through my sisters; I don’t actually speak to my parental units, but sibs have not yet turned off the attention taps, and then call me because wow, they just had a terrible conversation with one or the other, and they need validation that the parental units are indeed bug-fucking nuts. Which they are.
** one factory towns make for some seriously screwy family dynamics. Maternal grandparents had an extremely messy, perpetually unpleasant divorce in the early 60s. But they all ended up working with each other for years. Glad I wasn’t their union shop steward.
the Conster, la Citoyenne
@sukabi:
What the ever loving fuck is up with that?
Mike in NC
@Pogonip: Ragdoll breeders typically charge between $600-$1200 depending on where you live. In the Carolinas the going rate is $800-$900. We used to be happy with rescue kitties, but once you have a ragdoll you can never go back.
Villago Delenda Est
@Pogonip: It’s more of a hassle for the phone company (either the ILEC or some local exchange carrier) to list a number than to not list it, yet they charge for not listing it.

Villago Delenda Est
@debbie: For the next five days, Obama’s job is to continue to defend the Constitution of the United States against all enemies, foreign and domestic, and that most definitely means should be speaking out in opposition to the cheeto-faced short-fingered vulgarian.

@Jim, Foolish Literalist: Yes Guiliani is in deep with the NYC FBI office and also with Kallstrom who worked there. Does seem to be a clear line to them and the other agents who are anti-Clinton and leaking info. I hope there is some consequences for these a$$holes for what they have done
Gin & Tonic
@Renie: Re Kallstrom: The $1M that Trump donated to veterans earlier this year, when he made a big to-do about it, then tried to skip out, and was finally pressured into donating – went to a USMC veterans’ foundation headed by a guy named Jim Kallstrom. What a coincidence.

It’s beyond jangling my nerves — it’s pretty much jangling my entire being at this point.
I was despairing about a lot of things today, but the news of the past week was a huge part of it. I’m incredibly angry about this FBI rat-fuck, and there’s a bunch of other things that are stressing me out. And one of the internet places I go to for emotional support when I feel low and stressed has been completely overrun by Trump trolls, so I can’t even get a steadying hand there.
It’s really feeling like the Orcs are at the gate and there aren’t any Ents in sight

My final destination is the Bay Area. Gonna spend my birthday weekend in and around San Francisco and Oakland.
I’m flying back to NOLA next Tuesday.

Anybody here from New Hampshire? What’s going on there? Last three polls have a tie, Trump +1 and Trump +5. I’d like to believer they are outliers but they are recent and all came out at about the samw time. As Josh Marshall noted, this is really the first time “blue wall” state seemed at risk. Granted, the +5 Trump poll is from ARG and the kind of stink but still a bit unnerving…Clinton was up by double digits in a few NH polls not that long ago. How is Hassan doing?
sukabi
@hovercraft: yeah, I dropped that article in a link in my last post.

Love the end of the speech where Obama goes off on the false equivalence of both-sides-do-it obstructionism.

@Mike in NC: FWIW, I’m fostering two ragdolls now. There are rescues of every breed of animal.

@OGLiberal: First I heard of it. Usually bad polls are all over the internet.

@satby: Thanks. We recently learned of waiting lists for particular types in our area.

@Mike in NC: many rescue groups on Petfinder will adopt long distance if they can work with a rescue local to the potential adoptor for screening and follow up after the adoption.
OGLiberal
@Baud: pre-Comey poll from UNH had her +7. All of the recent three were post-Comey. Are New Hampshire voters that reactionary? RCP average now at 0.8 for Clinton in NH but, again, in most recent three she leads in none.
Omnes Omnibus
@OGLiberal: So what? Is NH necessary for her to win?
Joel
@Omnes Omnibus: No, but it’s necessary for Trump to.
FWIW, the most recent polls in NH have the following margins: T +5, tie, tie, C +10, T +1, C +7. Pollster has the running average around C+4, which seems right. If you include only these last six polls (post-Comey only), the average is C +1.88, with a standard error of 5. Some of that is just crummy polling/noise. Considering that there is more dirt about to fly it’s going to be hard to know which polls have any semblance of accuracy. Early voting numbers are probably your best bellwether.
Omnes Omnibus
@Joel: Thanks, but my basic point was that NH probably doesn’t matter to this election.
OGLiberal
@Omnes Omnibus: If she loses NH she has to win CO, NM, VA and one of the two districts in either Nebraska or Maine. And, whatever, if Clinton is losing NH, it ain’t good. I know folks there love being “independent” and love electing “moderates” like Ayotte but this dude is a lunatic, regardless of political ideology. It’s just that there’s only one party thst would embrace and allow said lunatic to be the party.nominee. We shunned Howard Dean because he got fired up one night. This guy talks about grabbing a woman’s privates whether she wants it or not and he’s running neck and neck for president. These folks have no shame and should be treated as such….everybody.needs to realize that “real American” means racist, sexist, paranoid fĆĆkwit.
redshirt
@OGLiberal: Agreed. I don’t understand those polling changes unless the FBI fix on this election was that substantial. And since the reality of the disclosure is…. nothing? I don’t see how it could change numbers like that.
NH will go blue, 3-6% positive spread.
Agorabum
@Villago Delenda Est: not even Hollywood could write a story where the mariners sweep a team to win the ALCS
Barry
@Baud: “Is it really? There have been some mumblings lately about Michigan. Everything is a lie nowadays, so I didnāt put much stock in it, but still glad to hear it from you.”

@redshirt: Another tie poll so RCP average has Trump up 1.5% in NH. Granted, the crappy ARG +5 Trump is a big part of the Trump 1.5 lead. I’m OK with a tie in the polls going in to election day given the ground game advantage….but not liking the trend. (in good news, Clinton back up 1.5 in RCP average in FL and if she wins FL then NH doesn’t matter)
