Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Radicalized white males who support Trump are pitching a tent in the abyss.

This really is a full service blog.

Since we are repeating ourselves, let me just say fuck that.

Wake up. Grow up. Get in the fight.

Republicans cannot even be trusted with their own money.

Some judge needs to shut this circus down soon.

How any woman could possibly vote for this smug smarmy piece of misogynistic crap is beyond understanding.

Motto for the House: Flip 5 and lose none.

Wow, I can’t imagine what it was like to comment in morse code.

Today in our ongoing national embarrassment…

Anyone who bans teaching American history has no right to shape America’s future.

I did not have this on my fuck 2025 bingo card.

The words do not have to be perfect.

Anne Laurie is a fucking hero in so many ways. ~ Betty Cracker

I’m more christian than these people and i’m an atheist.

The press swings at every pitch, we don’t have to.

DeSantis transforming Florida into 1930s Germany with gators and theme parks.

That’s my take and I am available for criticism at this time.

After dobbs, women are no longer free.

Tide comes in. Tide goes out. You can’t explain that.

Welcome to day five of every-bit-as-bad-as-you-thought-it-would-be.

Suspect there will be some fireworks at this rally…

Meanwhile: What’s on the agenda for the evening?

LeBron James, Bruce Springsteen, Jon Bon Jovi, JayZ all campaigning for Hillary. Not just star power — it's an appeal to men.

LOS ANGELES, CA – In a region where voter turnouts tend to be exceedingly low, the extent of early voting in Los Angeles County this weekend was stunning, with thousands of people braving long lines and waiting for up to four hours.

What’s on the agenda for the evening?

Not much planned. Just cooling out and waiting for the election frolic.

I saw Doctor Strange yesterday. Fun movie, with a few nice variations on the superhero origin story.

Some women in the audience with whom I saw the movie squealed and clapped when Mads Mikkelsen first appeared, and squealed again for Cumberbatch. I hope the movie execs realize that they are playing to the female gaze and not just delivering up standard issue male fantasies.

Cumberbatch easily owns the role. The movie made $84 million domestic and already $325 million worldwide. Marvel may want to roll up a truck full of money to keep Benedict as happy as they are keeping Robert Downey Jr.

At the end, some in the audience worked for or knew people in one of the effects houses that worked on the film and cheered. This was cool. Everybody had a good time.

If you see the movie, you might want to stay past the final end credits.

Some colleagues also saw Mel Gibson directed “Hacksaw Ridge” and think that this is the best film of the year.

Tweety had a moment of lucidity, Francesca Chambers of the Daily Mail tried to throw shade on Clinton, saying that if she wins the story will be that yes she’s the first woman president, but also how she’s clear of the FBI for now. Tweety asked what do you mean for now, she responded that there are still investigations and she was only cleared on the e-mails, but they could get her on something else. Tweety shot her down saying innocent till proven guilty, we don’t know of any other investigations except rumors spread by another network. She ended the segment looking down at her lap.

Anyone else can leave me a message if they’ve got legitimate business, and I’m happy to call them back. I’m sure a lot of people do the same. Get-out-the-vote calls and polling calls don’t lend themselves to call-backs.

    1) They really thought Trump was going to flame out and/or be forced out…never recognizing that in a primary, it’s people IN THAT PARTY who have to force the opposition out (call out his offensive shit so loudly that he’s toast). But they’ve countenanced some increasingly crazy stuff and even crazier people in the Obama years.
    2) They thought they were going to keep their warring factions glued together, all in service of a goal (keeping taxes low on the 1%) that most of the party doesn’t give a crap about. Uh-unh.
    3) They ignored the warnings when Mike Castle got primaried out, when Cantor got primaried out, when Boehner lost his job…heck, they could have looked back to 2009 or any year since…Palin’s more popular with the base than McCain, what does that tell you, GOP? The Tea Party ate the Republican Party.

Kind of a side note: it dawned on me today that for most GOPers, it’s coming close to THREE DECADES since they’ve had a president they were okay with (much less really dug like we dig Obama and will dig Hillz). Think about it: GHWB (tax-pledge-breaking ninny); then Clinton (OMG!); then W (who they were okay with until 9/11, and then the Iraq War, and then Katrina, and then W trying to privatize their social security); and then Obama (OMG!!). And now they’re looking at 4 or 8 years of History’s Greatest Monster. Not excusing them one bit, just noting that it’s been 28 years and is about to be 32/36 years if not longer. No wonder they act like dead-enders.

@FlipYrWhig: guys, maybe, like… his daddy? He did kinda break out of that when Obama made the thrills go up his leg, but it does seem he’s slipping back into what one of his producers called, back when the whole Tweety story broke (IIRC), full on Archie Bunker mode. Must be that he sense the approach of the Clenis.

and it was mostly disappointing that he had two Dem congressmen on and neither one pushed back with much policy or fact

Marvel actually shifted the production schedules of their movies in order to accommodate Cummberbatch’s schedule. They agreed with you: He’s made for the role.

A lot of them for sure. The party fit them like a glove. It’s people that still were dewey-eyed over Reagan and truly believed it was the party of responsibility, moral values and so on that seem to be shell-shocked. How they missed the nasty underbelly, I don’t have a clue. Denial? Anyway, wondering it will play out with those R’s after the election.

Chuck Todd once again proves why he is the absolute best in the business. He tells us the most powerful voting coalition of the future is WWC, Hispanics and AA’s.
When does anyone want to start betting on a pool that this “coalition” will actually form? 2040? 2080? Nebber?

He is just fucking amazing sometimes. I know he would not (edited) like snarky panelists who mocked shit like that, but boy it would make for better television.

The media is related to the WWC, so to them what their friends and families say and want is all important.
This John Breabender is really trying hard to convince us that Trump has a shot, Obama and Clinton are in PA and MI because she’s in trouble.

Just got back from setting up our polling place and it was proof that Republicans and Democrats can work together. Have to be back there in around 10 hours to do all the final set up work and then enjoy my day handling the voting and shutting down shop. I am totally optimistic about tomorrow. Hillary will win, the Dems will end up with 51 or 52 Senate seats, and, although the GOP will continue having the majority in the House, it will be about a 10 seat margin.

I gotta say I’m feeling good about PA. Got out to do some afternoon GOTV canvassing yesterday, and people are fired up. We had a ton of volunteers come from MD and DC, and a whole busload from NY state just showed up unannounced. AND the guy the spousal unit and I canvassed with was an admitted lifelong Republican who hadn’t voted for Obama, but couldn’t believe the insanity of this year’s R field (it helped that his wife is of Mexican heritage).

And, the PA Senate race is now the most expensive one on the federal level ($162M). That’s the part i’m still a little nervous about, but from what we saw yesterday, I have a feeling McGinty is going to win.

Gonna be tipping some whiskey tomorrow night, regardless of the outcome, I think.
