Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Never entrust democracy to any process that requires Republicans to act in good faith.

How any woman could possibly vote for this smug smarmy piece of misogynistic crap is beyond understanding.

Disappointing to see gov. newsom with his finger to the wind.

The media handbook says “controversial” is the most negative description that can be used for a Republican.

Compromise? There is no middle ground between a firefighter and an arsonist.

Something needs to be done about our bogus SCOTUS.

Welcome to day five of every-bit-as-bad-as-you-thought-it-would-be.

“When somebody takes the time to draw up a playbook, they’re gonna use it.”

Do we throw up our hands or do we roll up our sleeves? (hint, door #2)

We will not go quietly into the night; we will not vanish without a fight.

Balloon Juice, where there is always someone who will say you’re doing it wrong.

Trump should be leading, not lying.

Let’s delete this post and never speak of this again.

With all due respect and assumptions of good faith, please fuck off into the sun.

All hail the time of the bunny!

When they say they are pro-life, they do not mean yours.

Every one of the “Roberts Six” lied to get on the court.

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Beware of advice from anyone for whom Democrats are “they” and not “we.”

One lie, alone, tears the fabric of reality.

Speaking of republicans, is there a way for a political party to declare intellectual bankruptcy?

These are not very smart people, and things got out of hand.

The current Supreme Court is a dangerous, rogue court.

If you thought you’d already seen people saying the stupidest things possible on the internet, prepare yourselves.

Obama appears in a video for the Democrat running against 1 of his most frequent critics, @DarrellIssa https://t.co/FMt0PdSsle #CA49

I don’t know if this will help Doug Applegate win, but at least it will greatly perturb Darrell Issa… San Diegans?

Since I’m near the top of an open thread…

Hi. Hello. Lurker here from the People’s Republic of Massachusetts.

I just wanted to say I’ve been reading all of you for awhile now. A couple of years anyway. And I wanted to personally thank all the regulars (and irregulars as the case may be) for keeping me sane through this election. Regardless of what happens tomorrow, I wanted to let everyone here know.

    I’ll just re-engage lurker mode now…

After every one of their polls for months has shown Trump with YUGE leads, here is their prediction on the eve of the election:

    Clinton 352, Trump 186

That’s right: the same organization that CURRENTLY has Trump leading by 4.8 points has him… losing AZ.

The fact that they came out literally THE DAY BEFORE THE ELECTION and said, “Oh, gee, maybe our sampling is a bit skewed,” is showing their hand. If they were honest and sincere, they would have went down with the ship. Instead, they shout for months that Trump is dominating, then at the last minute, add a late-breaking update that Based On Some Recent Information, Hillary is now going to win in a laugher.

@sigaba: My problem is not with their polling methodology.

My problem is with them ignoring their obviously absurd poll results when it comes time to put their name to a prediction. If they actually believe Trump is up by 4.8 points, they should have him sweeping all the swing states; instead, they have him losing OH and AZ.

Clearly, even the LAT does not believe the nonsensical garbage formula being used to calculate their own poll. So if you don’t think your own poll formula is trustworthy, why continue to publish it?

LOL. You’re welcome. It’s my odd, minor superpower, which, unfortunately, I have never been able to monetize or even harness for the good of humankind. Also manifests in identification of voice-over talent in ads.

Glad I was able to scratch the itch.

Back from the Kaine/Biden rally here in Fairfax…whole lotta energy out there for a big win tomorrow, folks! Mark Warner is a pretty good speaker and Biden was just on. fire. “C’mon, we’re America, man!” LOL Got to see him afterwards and shake hands, what a pip.

Kaine gave a really on-point speech about values, insights on Hillary, and what makes American strong – easily under 15 min. My understanding is, he’s crashing in Richmond tonight so he can vote in the a.m., then head on up to NYC for the results to come in.

I’d like to wish the GOP luck running against TK in 2024, they’re going to need it.

@Spider-Dan: This is their tacit admission that they have no faith in their experiment. I have a level of respect for this, considering they aren’t wetting their pants on Twitter every few hours about their decision, unlike Nate Silver.

@Omnes Omnibus: I report, you decide. (Sorry I just finished re-reading Assassination Vacation.)

San Diegan here. That video would have been MUCH more helpful a week or two ago. Just saying.

@sigaba: Again, the fact that their tacit admission comes one day before the election is what stinks. If it didn’t come months ago, it should have waited until Wednesday. This is their attempt to eat their cake and have it too.

    @PsiFighter37:

Why did PBO not do this in 2010 or 2014?

Ugh, if only he had fought for Democrats all around harder…

Are you fucking kidding me? He DID do this in 2010 & 2014–for the Dems who DIDN’T run away from him. Most Dems ran away from Obama, and we lost the House and Senate as a result.

Fuck that noise. Place blame on the cowardly Dems who didn’t have their President’s back.

@PsiFighter37: I think he didn’t do this in 2010 and 2014 because the DNC discouraged it and he still had some fcks left to give from his big bag of fcks. I wish he had recognized reality and gone into NMFTG mode back in 2010. We all would have had a lot more fun the last six years.

@Gelfling 545: Truman explained it at some Dem convention or gathering or something. Given a choice between a Republican and a Democrat trying to pretend to be “conservative,” Republican voters are going to go for the real Republican every time. They know the real thing when they see it.
