Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

They fucked up the fucking up of the fuckup!

Shallow, uninformed, and lacking identity

Incompetence, fear, or corruption? why not all three?

This blog will pay for itself.

A sufficient plurality of insane, greedy people can tank any democratic system ever devised, apparently.

if you can’t see it, then you are useless in the fight to stop it.

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Putting aside our relentless self-interest because the moral imperative is crystal clear.

Red lights blinking on democracy’s dashboard

They traffic in fear. it is their only currency. if we are fearful, they are winning.

The worst democrat is better than the best republican.

Republicans in disarray!

Proof that we need a blogger ethics panel.

No offense, but this thread hasn’t been about you for quite a while.

Let’s not be the monsters we hate.

A last alliance of elves and men. also pet photos.

Whoever he was, that guy was nuts.

Not so fun when the rabbit gets the gun, is it?

I’d try pessimism, but it probably wouldn’t work.

It’s time for the GOP to dust off that post-2012 autopsy, completely ignore it, and light the party on fire again.

Balloon Juice has never been a refuge for the linguistically delicate.

Pessimism assures that nothing of any importance will change.

Republicans are radicals, not conservatives.

When do we start airlifting the women and children out of Texas?

One small regret I will have for this election campaign is that I really think Alf Landon deserves better than to be remembered as the loser who got the fewest electoral votes in a modern election. I think that Donald Trump is far more deserving of the honour and it is going to be very unfortunate that he will not achieve it.

Perhaps the GOP will have another go in 2020.

Got my sample ballot filled out, Fired Up and Ready to Go. One suggestion: maybe next time we could have a proposition on the ballot to set up some sort of group that we could elect to handle some of the matters that they litter our ballot with every time we go to the polls here in CA. Maybe call it a legislature or something like that.

    But it was rigged!

And so they’ll start their “revolution” using the triple thrust of racial, misogynistic, and anti-handicap attacks to try and undermine the crushing results.

Fck you Trump, you a-hole. You’ve debased this process enough, and dragged millions down with you. May you have a heart attack when you find out you lost.

I’m a sucker for a good rom com and cheesy 80’s pop music. Last night I stepped outside to a beautiful evening in Cincinnati. The speakers from restaurant next door were blaring Don’t Stop Believing by Journey. Looking at the stretch of lights from downtown, I said to myself, “This is a sign” (straight out of Sleepless in Seattle).

Also, too, parked in front of the little park next to my building was a huge CBC satellite truck from Toronto. They are here to cover the election.

It doesn’t matter if it is true or not (and I agree I don’t think all of the clowns who ran for the GOP nomination would have beaten HRC). But we’ll never know, because the GOP chose to nominate Trump — you lose with the candidate you nominated; you don’t win with the candidates you didn’t nominate. That’s a fairly simple rule of politics.

@TriassicSands: First, I don’t think Brady cheated. Second, Brady said in an interview that he had not voted yet. Third, I think Giselle smacked him on the head and told him “Nein” as far as Trump was concern.

That 55% of the white people want this guy as President is really the most depressing thing about this campaign.

Some people say it was the racism and the sexism, but economic hard times have always aggravated racial and gender resentments. For instance, Iowa has had a relatively hard time since 2012 as commodity prices have crashed, which is enough to depress the Democratic vote and swing a portion of working class whites into the Republican tribe. Ohio still has a large group who hate NAFTA and trade deals, with which Clinton is identified. I think this explains the 5% swing to Trump from Obama who ran against Romney who made his money closing factories and moving them overseas as Private Equity Vulture. Obama has been a great President with a great record, but where he has failed, starting in 2009 was when listened to and followed the Rubinite agenda of the late 90s on economics and trade (this was the reason for putting political capital and energy in negotiating the TPP, something the Donor Class and Village Loved, but which the country, and blue collar based of the party hated (the Black and Brown working class hate it as much as the White working class, but stick with the Democrats because they may defend their civil rights, while the other party wants to take them away). I found no better story or chart to explain our current politics then this one: https://www.pewtrusts.org/en/research-and-analysis/blogs/stateline/2016/01/22/fewer-manufacturing-jobs-housing-bust-haunt-many-us-counties

Anyway, they aren’t gonna come back for Hillary. I’m sorry to see how racist they’ve become, although there was always a lot more of that than the MSM ever admitted. I was shocked when a friend in the Air Force invited me to his home for Thanksgiving back in 1955, during a busing controversy. I grew up in segregated areas and had never seen that kind of racism.

For the 99th time: Trump is not a liar. He’s a bullshitter. Liars have regard for the truth and try to hide it. Bullshitters don’t care about truth even that much, and will say anything at all that they think will get them immediate advantage. That’s why Trump says so many obviously false things — he does not care one bit that they’re false, not even enough to try to hide it.
