Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

She burned that motherfucker down, and I am so here for it. Thank you, Caroline Kennedy.

Let the trolls come, and then ignore them. that’s the worst thing you can do to a troll.

The republican speaker is a slippery little devil.

Whatever happens next week, the fight doesn’t end.

We still have time to mess this up!

Trumpflation is an intolerable hardship for every American, and it’s Trump’s fault.

So it was an October Surprise A Day, like an Advent calendar but for crime.

It is possible to do the right thing without the promise of a cookie.

Our job is not to persuade republicans but to defeat them.

Reality always lies in wait for … Democrats.

We will not go quietly into the night; we will not vanish without a fight.

If rights aren’t universal, they are privilege, not rights.

Seems like a complicated subject, have you tried yelling at it?

But frankly mr. cole, I’ll be happier when you get back to telling us to go fuck ourselves.

If you can’t control your emotions, someone else will.

I see no possible difficulties whatsoever with this fool-proof plan.

… pundit janitors mopping up after the gop

America is going up in flames. The NYTimes fawns over MAGA celebrities. No longer a real newspaper.

Fight them, without becoming them!

You are so fucked. Still, I wish you the best of luck.

They love authoritarianism, but only when they get to be the authoritarians.

Accountability, motherfuckers.

Washington Post Catch and Kill, not noticeably better than the Enquirer’s.

Speaker Mike Johnson is a vile traitor to the House and the Constitution.

I remember people saying this in 2000 and 2004. We got Bush & Iraq and all that came with it. And Bush gave us Roberts and Alito. And they gave us Shelby County. And it looks like that gave us Trump.

If Trump wins we will not get through this.

The markets are already crashing. Do you think they’ll recover considering how they figure Trump’s anti-trade stances will lead to trade wars?

The racists and sexists will be emboldened by this: that for all the effort of getting the vote out among minorities and women it wasn’t enough to stop Trump. Attacks on women and Latinos and Blacks and Muslims are going to get WORSE.

Our jobs will suffer: nobody will do ANYTHING for wages with Trump and a GOP Congress.

Ryan’s budget plan will become law. Our social safety net gets destroyed. Our tax code gets gutted and toothless. Massive deficits and government debt will become the norm again.

The media won’t say shit because they’ll be too busy sucking up to a vengeful Trump and an arrogant self-satisfied Republican leadership.

Massive administrative incompetence will return. Take Katrina and multiply it by ten over the next four years.

Our voting rights will get shredded all to hell. The GOP will feel their voter suppression efforts are working and will push it EVERYWHERE. and on EVERYONE who’s not of their tribe.

Gods help us. We are too close to destruction here as a nation.

@Elixir: Crunch the numbers. If Clinton can’t win both Michigan and Wisconsin, it’s done. Michigan looks like it might pull through, but Wisconsin doesn’t. If she loses Wisconsin, and carries every other state she should, plus Nevada and New Hampshire, it’s tied 269-269, and goes to the House.

Well, Clinton now NEEDS to win MI, WI, PA, and NH to not lose.

Or NV, PA, MN, WI, and MI. If she wins those, it puts her at 271, whether or not we win ME or NH.

I am sorry but I am angry. I worked my butt out to elect Hillary. I traveled to fucking hellhole Ohio and canvassed. I am angry that a huge segment of my country chose racism and nativism. MEdia helped create a monster who has no plans, Sanders pushed conspiracy theories about how dem establishment is corrupt. You cannot imagine how many people used that logic to explain why they were sitting this one out of voting for a third party. This fucking country is full of morons. It’s also full of hate. I guess high voter turnout is effectively countered when polling places can be easily eliminated and long waits and travel distances can be maintained. And the Voting Act is gutted by a guy who has opposed cicil rights and protections against harassment since the Reagan years, and is put at the head of the Supreme Court.

Which even if true, doesn’t change the fact that this guy is going to be a dick on alleged progressive purity principle, when the practical result is disaster for decades for the prospect of every goal he is supposedly standing for.

@Steppan: I wonder what a Pres. Trump and the GOP Congress will do when people on diabetes meds and dialysis start dying because they can’t get health care anymore. This is the kind of story the press will get onto, especially as it hits the red states particularly hard. Similarly, I expect Putin to move on the Baltic states sometime early in 2017 in the hopes of fracturing NATO. I wonder what those anti communist patriots in the GOP will do then. Lastly, I also wonder what will happen when Trump sets up his immigration Gestapo to deport millions, and they (inevitably) end up deporting native born Americans with Hispanic names and/or Hispanic Americans who resort to 2nd Amendment solutions. His administration will spend years in the courts. And if nothing bad happens to Trump and the GOP because they successfully transform the US into the Fourth Reich, well, my family all have Australian passports, thanks to the 10 or so years my spouse and I spent there working at a university. At least we’ll have a safe place to live while the US discovers what fascism is really like. And maybe nuclear war, too.

Ironically, Germany is now a popular destination for Brits with German Jewish backgrounds, the better to escape Brexit. Germany needs skilled younger immigrants to balance the aging of their population. There is also Lithuania, an EU nation with a highly educated population that is declining. That is is a riskier choice, of course, since Trump will help Putin split NATO apart to “Finalndize” Lithuania back under Russian control.
