Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Seems like a complicated subject, have you tried yelling at it?

Jesus, Mary, & Joseph how is that election even close?

It’s the corruption, stupid.

“woke” is the new caravan.

I did not have this on my fuck 2022 bingo card.

Republicans are the party of chaos and catastrophe.

We cannot abandon the truth and remain a free nation.

It may be funny to you motherfucker, but it’s not funny to me.

If senate republicans had any shame, they’d die of it.

Schmidt just says fuck it, opens a tea shop.

White supremacy is terrorism.

We are builders in a constant struggle with destroyers. let’s win this.

You don’t get rid of your umbrella while it’s still raining.

We’ve had enough carrots to last a lifetime. break out the sticks.

Something needs to be done about our bogus SCOTUS.

I was promised a recession.

I’m pretty sure there’s only one Jack Smith.

Optimism opens the door to great things.

Let there be snark.

The republican caucus is already covering themselves with something, and it’s not glory.

Tick tock motherfuckers!

A lot of Dems talk about what the media tells them to talk about. Not helpful.

Peak wingnut was a lie.

I Don’t Ever Want to Hear Another Fucking Thing about Hillary’s Fucking Emails

Trump’s National Security Advisor:

Flynn broke rules he thought were stupid. He once told me about a period he spent assigned to a C.I.A. station in Iraq, when he would sometimes sneak out of the compound without the “insane” required approval from C.I.A. headquarters, in Langley, Virginia. He had technicians secretly install an Internet connection in his Pentagon office, even though it was forbidden. There was also the time he gave classified information to nato allies without approval, an incident which prompted an investigation, and a warning from superiors. During his stint as Mullen’s intelligence chief, Flynn would often write “This is bullshit!” in the margins of classified papers he was obliged to pass on to his boss, someone who saw these papers told me.

Fuck the media. Fuck Chris Cilizza. Fuck the Republicans. Fuck Flynn. And fuck Trump.

Stuff like this wouldn’t have stopped people from voting for Trump before the election.

But if the press keeps hitting these stories about how duplicitous, how hypocritical, how borderline evil these people Trump is assembling to run the country really are, about how he lied about not running up the debt or about rounding up all the illegals and driving them on a bus to Juarez, about being the most “ethical” administration in history—I really believe the Senate and the House members who really deeply oppose him for all kinds of reasons will have the ammunition to do the things it needs to block his decisions. Even though National Security Advisor is not a confirmable post, we all saw what happened in past administrations that tried to appoint people Congress didn’t want–even their own parties went against them, knocking the President’s choices out.

There’s a lot of buyer’s remorse flames out there to fan, folks. These stories are just the beginning of the taking down of and corrupt regime.

I can’t think of one single positive thing to say about Trump, or his business career, or his candidacy, or his family, or his transition, or any of the people he’s selected for Cabinet-level or advisory positions.

    Not a single one.

Take that story (which hasn’t been reported nearly as much as it should have been, about Don Trump Jr meeting in Paris last month (so, before the election) with pro-Russian activists on the subject of Syria.

The corporate media should be all over this. Can you imagine, if Chelsea Clinton had done something like this just weeks before the election?

I know. They were screaming, “Lock her up!” about Clinton for doing a lot less than this, but my guess is that they won’t have fuck-all to say about this. It’s different, you know. Why, you ask? Because, shut up, that’s why!

These stories are just the beginning of the taking down of and corrupt regime.

And I think you may be right about this. The one thing that may save us, I’m thinking more and more every fucking day, is that Trump cannot help himself. He can’t help it. He’s going to choose the corruptest shitbags he can find, and use his office for his own ends over and over and over, because this is the guy he is. That’s all there is to the guy, greed, resentment, oversensitivity and meanness. He somehow found some way to paper that over for about half the country, but he can’t hide who he is forever. That does give me some hope.

Trump will *never* be in positive territory on approval ratings though and that will eat at him….. and there will be major incidents within weeks of him taking office, and that will eat at him. I give his presidency a half-life of 18 months. Hell get frustrated or quit or stroke out. There’s also going to be multiple internal purges within the administration as the various sub-factions try to lay blame for the inevitable fuckups that are going to happen thick and fast.

How do we feel about the “Trump == Berlusconi” theory?

The Italian experience provides a blueprint for how to defeat Mr. Trump. Only two men in Italy have won an electoral competition against Mr. Berlusconi: Romano Prodi and the current prime minister, Matteo Renzi (albeit only in a 2014 European election). Both of them treated Mr. Berlusconi as an ordinary opponent. They focused on the issues, not on his character.

Oh, yes, there was a brief statement in the article that racism and misogyny and bigotry are bad, but who’s to say that Trump voters are such people?

God I hope so. I really hope there are military personnel who are willing to block the more violent, power hungry and revenge minded aspects of his inclinations. My biggest fear about the disaster of foreign policy looming is he does abandon NATO in fact and/or practice. This would leave Germany as the sole defense between Putin and re-establishing the old Soviet eastern block. I think he interfered in the election to keep the Ukraine in the Russian trading partners and out of the EU (and the Syrian BS). But if he can get back say, Slovakia, Kosovo, Romania, etc… I think he would go for it if he thinks he can get away with it. My theory about the MSM in general is: they thought Hillary Clinton would win, and they wanted her to, in order to keep civil society going. They thought they could just weaken her by all the e-mail stories and clouds, so that she wouldn’t have a “mandate” to raise their taxes, but that all the same she’d win against an unqualified, lying, sexual-abusing, racist buffoon. But they miscalculated, and now they’re soiling their pants.

The Republican media strategy is two fold. Spread and disseminate outrageous filth from the overtly right wing sites like Fox, Rush etc. Mainstream Republican dogma through through respectable media like NYT, PBS etc. Every debate including the VP debate had a question about austerity and fiscal discipline and none about for example climate change.
While liberal blogs like this one chase the dangly toy of the outrageous BS, the Republican agenda is mainstreamed quietly.

The U.S. Office of Special Counsel (OSC) is an independent federal investigative and prosecutorial agency. Our basic authorities come from four federal statutes: the Civil Service Reform Act, the Whistleblower Protection Act, the Hatch Act, and the Uniformed Services Employment & Reemployment Rights Act (USERRA).

OSC’s primary mission is to safeguard the merit system by protecting federal employees and applicants from prohibited personnel practices, especially reprisal for whistleblowing. For a description of prohibited personnel practices (PPPs), click here: https://osc.gov/Pages/PPP.aspx

Where are the cries to jail Trump and many of his followers that condemned Hillary for doing nothing more than her job. She kept forcing the issue. I finally emailed her later about another matter and said Trump is the President-elect, but he’s not and never will be my President. I will not participate in any normalizing of Trump.

It’s about time we really push back. I’ve just donated to the Green Party swing state recount. Because we need a movement from the grass roots up that stands for something and standing up for audited elections is the place to start.
