Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

“Jesus paying for the sins of everyone is an insult to those who paid for their own sins.”

Jack Smith: “Why did you start campaigning in the middle of my investigation?!”

This country desperately needs a functioning fourth estate.

There are times when telling just part of the truth is effectively a lie.

I might just take the rest of the day off and do even more nothing than usual.

They fucked up the fucking up of the fuckup!

Rupert, come get your orange boy, you petrified old dinosaur turd.

Why is it so hard for them to condemn hate?

They traffic in fear. it is their only currency. if we are fearful, they are winning.

When you’re in more danger from the IDF than from Russian shelling, that’s really bad.

the 10% who apparently lack object permanence

If you still can’t see these things even now, maybe politics isn’t your forte and you should stop writing about it.

The rest of the comments were smacking Boebert like she was a piñata.

“But what about the lurkers?”

Bark louder, little dog.

I have other things to bitch about but those will have to wait.

The fundamental promise of conservatism all over the world is a return to an idealized past that never existed.

All hail the time of the bunny!

A sufficient plurality of insane, greedy people can tank any democratic system ever devised, apparently.

Whatever happens next week, the fight doesn’t end.

Republicans: The threats are dire, but my tickets are non-refundable!

In after Baud. Damn.

It’s easy to sit in safety and prescribe what other people should be doing.

Republicans don’t lie to be believed, they lie to be repeated.

Sorry to bigfoot Betty Cracker but I wanted to put this put this up there, from Batocchio, before I forgot:

After a long, crazy year it’s time once again to continue a tradition started by Jon Swift/Al Weisel, the “Best Posts of the Year, Chosen by the Bloggers Themselves.” Jon/Al left behind some wonderful satire, but was also a nice guy and a strong supporter of small blogs. (Here’s Jon/Al’s 2007 and 2008 editions. Our revivals from 2010 through 2015 can be found here.)

If you’d like to participate, just reply to this e-mail or write to me (Batocchio9 AT yahoo DOT com) with your best post of the year before 12/25:

Blog Name
Title of Post
Link
Author of Post
Brief Description/Pitch of the Post (1–2 sentences)

(If it’s not a reply, adding “best post” in the subject line would also help.)

To modify Jon Swift’s 2008 solicitation:

I would be very honored if you would participate and send me a link to what you think was your best post of [2016], along with a short description of it. Please make the hard choice and send me only one link. I would like to post it before the end of the year, so if you could get it to me before Christmas, I would really appreciate it.

One submission per blog, please, otherwise things can get messy. Group bloggers can pick a piece among themselves, but are also welcome to submit their work via their individual blogs, if they have them.

As usual, I’m aiming to find the right balance between “inclusive” and “manageable.” If you know a few excellent blogs (preferably on the smaller side) that you suspect might not be on my radar, feel free to send me their website address (and contact info, if you have it).

Not a blog post, but if anyone’s looking for anti-Turmp satire, I highly recommend this: http://amzn.to/2hBmtSd

It’s a book of rewritten fairytales, based on Trump’s election.

I’m gonna edit an early blog with post-election update to show what I predicted was right or off-target.

so far, I’m right about how bad the Congressional Republicans are…

    @Gussie: author blurb

N.T.O. Zamboni is an old-fashioned American, with an antiquated dislike of sexual assault, financial scams, and petulant racist fearmongers—not to mention of coordinating with foreign intelligence services to undermine the integrity of an American election. What a lightweight loser. Sad!

Trying to find something “best” about this year is going to be tough for me. It’s like going through the wreckage after a fire. Everything’s burnt, broken, water-damaged, then “Hey look, the Cavs won the championship!” Then you notice your pre-CBS Stratocaster in six pieces.

It’s going to take a long time.

I’m submitting mine tonight. I think this is a great tradition, and Al’s goal of promoting smaller, less-noticed blogs (ahem) was noble and encouraging.

It isn’t funny or satirical in any way, and it’s a huge series of posts over the course of several months of the election season, but I would nominate James Fallows at the Atlantic for his Time Capsule series about Trump.

@liberal: That one’s in there! Well, not really. But there’s a version of the Frog Prince I like. Let’s just say that frog doesn’t turn human …
