Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Black Jesus loves a paper trail.

Republicans don’t want a speaker to lead them; they want a hostage.

The republican caucus is already covering themselves with something, and it’s not glory.

An almost top 10,000 blog!

“Squeaker” McCarthy

It’s the corruption, stupid.

Fuck the extremist election deniers. What’s money for if not for keeping them out of office?

Red lights blinking on democracy’s dashboard

Too often we confuse noise with substance. too often we confuse setbacks with defeat.

A Senator Walker would be an insult to the state and the nation.

They traffic in fear. it is their only currency. if we are fearful, they are winning.

if you can’t see it, then you are useless in the fight to stop it.

When I decide to be condescending, you won’t have to dream up a fantasy about it.

Just because you believe it, that doesn’t make it true.

We are builders in a constant struggle with destroyers. let’s win this.

Nancy smash is sick of your bullshit.

Republicans are radicals, not conservatives.

JFC, are there no editors left at that goddamn rag?

Republicans do not pay their debts.

Second rate reporter says what?

The poor and middle-class pay taxes, the rich pay accountants, the wealthy pay politicians.

After roe, women are no longer free.

Despite his magical powers, I don’t think Trump is thinking this through, to be honest.

Whoever he was, that guy was nuts.

Note from indefatiguable commentor Yutsano:

It turns out I’ll be in Seattle from January 10-12. Hoping a meet-up can happen while I’m there! I’m free the evening of the 10th and the 11th going back on the 12th in the afternoon.

Leave a comment, or if you want to get in touch directly, email me at annelaurie dot verizon dot com and I’ll forward your message.

I mostly lurk but would be up for a meet up. I’m in North Seattle.

    We’ll be in town.

Where are you these days? Try-cities area?

Yes! Yes! Godz, yes! Either evening is fine; I’m off work by 5:30.

Any preferences as to where? I’d prefer to avoid downtown if at all possible. Traffic is always a nightmare, even when you’re on a bus. (Plus, I’d have to slog across campus to the Stadium Station, as no buses go downtown from the U District anymore.)

Stanfords, by Northgate Mall, is a little pricey but their food and drinks very good.

The District, in the Decca Hotel in the U District, is a little on the smallish side, but also very good food and drink.

Lots of places in Ballard: the Matador is one of my faves.

I’d be up for it if schedule allows. Definitely want to meet some of these folks who make this site so wonderful. Anywhere works for me.

Ballard or Stanfords would be great for me.

@CaseyL: I’m good with anywhere. I’ll probably be staying downtown again just because convenience to both Pill Hill and getting out of town once I’m done.

We should probably pick a spot first then a time. I’m okay with Stanford’s but isn’t there a Ram at Northgate too?

Also just fyi, this place is right next door to the Capitol Hill train stop, if that could work. It’s very good.

@hitchhiker: That does look yummy, but getting to Cap Hill is barely less inconvenient than going downtown – at least, for me.

@Yutsano: Yes, there is a Ram’s at Northgate. Also a good spot; if that’s your preference, we can make it so.

I’d like to go. But I live way out on the coast and have school aged kids so I’m a maybe at the moment. Had lots of fun at the Phoenix meetup so I’ll do my best.

Mostly-lurker here: this sounds like a fabulous plan. Tuesday is a no go but Wednesday would work for me; North Seattle sounds best because I am a) in N Seattle and b) laaaaaazy. Haven’t been to the Ram for years but they have beer so what could go wrong?

@Batten Down the Hatches: Wednesday is good as I have zero plans for that day as it is.

    @Bumper: Would 6:30ish work?

@CaseyL: I MIGHT get Taylormattd to show up…but that will take some finessing on my part.

Husband says he will watch kiddos after school so 6:30 should work. Depending on the location you choose, I’m probably 2.5 hours away. But it’ll be worth the drive :-)

PS: Want me to come rescue you from work?

@Bumper: Oh frabjous! Hopefully you can take the Edmonds boat if that will save you time.

    Unless you’re talking Aberdeen/Hoquiam.
