Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Come on, man.

Why is it so hard for them to condemn hate?

There are times when telling just part of the truth is effectively a lie.

American history and black history cannot be separated.

Consistently wrong since 2002

They want us to be overwhelmed and exhausted. Focus. Resist. Oppose.

Rupert, come get your orange boy, you petrified old dinosaur turd.

… riddled with inexplicable and elementary errors of law and fact

Imperialist aggressors must be defeated, or the whole world loses.

“Jesus paying for the sins of everyone is an insult to those who paid for their own sins.”

Is it irresponsible to speculate? It is irresponsible not to.

If you still can’t see these things even now, maybe politics isn’t your forte and you should stop writing about it.

Trump’s cabinet: like a magic 8 ball that only gives wrong answers.

These days, even the boring Republicans are nuts.

I’d hate to be the candidate who lost to this guy.

Stop using mental illness to avoid talking about armed white supremacy.

“Alexa, change the president.”

Make the republican party small enough to drown in a bathtub.

If ‘weird’ was the finish line, they ran through the tape and kept running.

A sufficient plurality of insane, greedy people can tank any democratic system ever devised, apparently.

The worst democrat is better than the best republican.

“In the future, this lab will be a museum. do not touch it.”

They are not red states to be hated; they are voter suppression states to be fixed.

And now I have baud making fun of me. this day can’t get worse.

Timely! New NBC/WSJ on views of Wikileaks

All: 18% positive, 34% negative
Trump voters: 27% pos, 23% neg
Clinton voters: 10% pos, 51% neg

— Carrie Dann (@CarrieNBCNews) January 17, 2017

.

Speaking of subverting the deep state — Commentor Magurakurin flagged this series of tweets a few days ago. Excerpts:

.@Wikileaks was built/ created by many ppl; many of the ideas attributed w/ it are not in line w Assange's politics. (5) @Khanoisseur.

— Anonymous (@YourAnonCentral) January 12, 2017

This is because the software developer behind it (leak platform) left the project. We assume he is still writing software. (7) @Khanoisseur

— Anonymous (@YourAnonCentral) January 12, 2017

Her (@xychelsea) principles appear unchanged. (11) @wikileaks @Khanoisseur

— Anonymous (@YourAnonCentral) January 12, 2017

From earliest interviews, Assange is a racist, sexist, right wing libertarian who loved Rand Paul and the US constitution. (20) @Khanoisseur

— Anonymous (@YourAnonCentral) January 12, 2017

You are just left with the fascist (Assange), all the people whose work he rode off of are still around but not there. (24) @Khanoisseur

— Anonymous (@YourAnonCentral) January 12, 2017

Journalist's tend to p-shop what @Wikileaks really is into a story of the 'great man & his struggle'. It sells but it's wrong. @Khanoisseur

— Anonymous (@YourAnonCentral) January 12, 2017

It’s never as simple as Four legs good, two legs bad. Or even Four legs good, two legs BETTER…

Cyber war is such an unknown for so many. Would’ve loved to have an incoming Admin ready to address.

    Given that void, what next?

I’ve been following that Anonymous twitter feed for awhile and have been struck by the clear headed and straight forward tweets coming from them. I think it’s just another indication that the timeline has been well and truly fucked and the scientists didn’t reach the doomsday self destruct button in time to save the universe as we know it.

@efgoldman: Seen a couple folks mention our assumption that it’s girls. No idea and obviously we don’t give a crap either way wrt gender.

This suggestion came up when I was looking into Orange Czar’s seemingly only friend – Roy Cohn. That guy is despicable and disgusting. I haven’t seen Angels in America and don’t know if I want to now. Yikes.

    @efgoldman:

Umm, no. He can love Rand or he can love the constitution; he can’t love both.

The Constitution, for Conservatives, is like the Bible, for pre-reformation Christian peasants: it’s an idealized something they are told about, and taught to revere, but it is written in a foreign language, it is not for their perusal, and in any case they’re illiterate even in their own tongue.

Stephen Colbert has just been,I don’t know the word, snarkily shrilly, in his monologues. I am actually worried about his safety after Lumpy assumes office. I’m also surprised Lumpy hasn’t tweeted about Colbert. Maybe he figures he won’t come out well in a twitter war against Colbert.

    That reminds me…

When Assange tried to start a Wikileaks Party in Australia, he aligned with the white nationalist party. That was the beginning of the end, because a lot of the original members jumped ship.

    Also…

Trump has already been hacked (by Anonymous?) so he’s a complete hypocrite when he mocks Podesta. Somebody hacked his voicemail and sent the recordings to Gawker. They exposed his cozy relationship with MSNBC — Joe & Mika in particular.

    gawker.com/voicemails-appear-to-reveal-donald-trumps-cozy-relation-1762690660

He also got friendly messages from Tom Brady, Don King and David Axelrod.

@Mnemosyne: Ray Bradbury spoke at my HS when I was about 15, so about 1965. Told wonderful stories, some of them about resisting authority, urging us to not be sheep. Said he went for a walk with his wife one evening, either in Long Beach or Santa Monica (I can’t remember), and they were just walking along and a cop pulled over to the curb next to them and demanded to know where they were going, wanted to see their ID, etc. He was so astonished and so angry about this that he wrote a short story or a play about just this issue.
When he was a young teenager he wrote gags for George Burns. The LA Times magazine published a short article he wrote about how he loved California. The photo that accompanied it was of him at age 13 or so, in pajamas, slippers, and a robe, standing outside next to Burns. I love thee, Queen Calafia, published in 2001.

Now that Wikileaks has been useless if not dangerous as a depot for leaked information for awhile, I’ll be interested to see whether Anons step up. (I know, Anonymous Are Not Your Private Army.)

@Ian: Anonymous is not and never has been a single person or organization. @YourAnonCentral is, of course, an identity.

Believe them when their message is supported by evidence. Pay attention to them when they promote useful and accurate material.
