Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

“Squeaker” McCarthy

“Everybody’s entitled to be an idiot.”

Let’s finish the job.

Hot air and ill-informed banter

Putting aside our relentless self-interest because the moral imperative is crystal clear.

Second rate reporter says what?

This fight is for everything.

Damn right I heard that as a threat.

Balloon Juice has never been a refuge for the linguistically delicate.

White supremacy is terrorism.

Give the craziest people you know everything they want and hope they don’t ask for more? Great plan.

Republicans don’t want a speaker to lead them; they want a hostage.

You can’t attract Republican voters. You can only out organize them.

Nothing worth doing is easy.

If senate republicans had any shame, they’d die of it.

The arc of history bends toward the same old fuckery.

I really should read my own blog.

The republican caucus is already covering themselves with something, and it’s not glory.

fuckem (in honor of the late great efgoldman)

Perhaps you mistook them for somebody who gives a damn.

When I decide to be condescending, you won’t have to dream up a fantasy about it.

Accused of treason; bitches about the ratings. I am in awe.

A snarling mass of vitriolic jackals

… riddled with inexplicable and elementary errors of law and fact

We got a lot of strange looks. But she’s good, the wound needed to be irrigated, which she handled like a pro. Unfortunately for her, she’s back in the cone of shame. I think the same way people say the shitgibbon is personable in person, apart from lying to your face constantly, they are pleasant while you are in front of them. Personally I find the fact that you are a polite piece of shit does not mitigate your terribleness. Katy Tur kept saying all through the campaign how nice he was in person, even though he repeatedly called her out by name in front of his rabid fans, causing the secret service to have to escort her out on more than one occasion. And if other nations stand aside from that pick-up that may be, not from respect, as the poet would fain believe, but simply from horror. From horror, perhaps from disgust. And well it is that they stand aside, but maybe they will cease one day to do so and will form a firm wall confronting the hurrying apparition and will check the frenzied rush of our lawlessness, for the sake of their own safety, enlightenment and civilisation. Already we have heard voices of alarm from Europe, they already begin to sound.

Rev. Luis León, rector of St. John’s Episcopal, told CNN about the plan to have Rev. Robert Jeffress, a Southern Baptist and a fervent supporter of President-elect Donald Trump, deliver a sermon in the private service. Another unnamed source involved in the service told the network that Jeffress was scheduled to take part in it.

Jeffress has built a reputation for attacking other religions over the years, especially in his capacity as a commentator on Fox News.

In 2010, Jeffress said Islam promoted pedophilia, violence and the oppression of women, claims he has often repeated. The worst thing about Islam, he said at the time, “is that it is a deception that leads people from the true God.”

He has also called Mormonism a “cult”, including during the 2012 presidential campaign. Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney (R), a Mormon, was the Republican Party’s nominee for president that year.

In anticipation of the Supreme Court’s 2015 ruling that legalized gay marriage nationwide, Jeffress compared gay relationships to incest. Later that summer, he claimed that Christians in America “are being marginalized the way Jews in Germany were.”………….

“Pastor Jeffress is a unifying figure representing a diverse spectrum of Americans,” the person said. “Any attempt to vilify this religious leader is deeply disappointing and misplaced.”

Doesn’t mean he can’t be re-elected since we painfully found out elections are a binary choice but short of internet squared being invented or cancer being cured I don’t see what Trump could do to make himself and his administration popular, he’s gone too far down the rabbit hole with his antics.

If you are marching any where on Saturday, please consider a sign honoring Hillary and/or her 2.8 million vote victory. And spare not the Comey intervention, either.

Linda Sansour, one of the organizers of the DC march, is a big Bernista. She has refused to put Hillary on the list of Revolutionary Women for whom the march is said to be honoring. Women who are marching are just finding out how much Sansour hates Hillary and are furious. FaceBook is apparently abroil.

Here is Sansour’s explanation why No Hillary:

It is too close to the election. This is not about women being upset Hillary didn’t win. It is about a crazy man who is about to roll back all our rights. Why let her be the story and erase millions of women who will be impacted?

Bernie still determined to destroy the Democratic Party it seems.

I hated The Daily Show (well, really just Jon Stewart) so I almost never watched it and I’ve never seen her new show (don’t even know what network she’s on), but if this is some sort of big takedown, I’m not impressed. It wasn’t very funny and it didn’t have very sharp claws. When you go out of your way to say how nice she is, any other point you make is moot. She can’t be that bad if she’s so nice, right? Fuck that shit. She isn’t nice. She’s a disgusting, lying piece of shit who is happy to see millions suffer and die for her own profit and power. She is the worst sort of person and it shows in her face. She’s much younger than me and looks a decade older. Evil shows as we age. You can’t hide it with youth and beauty anymore.

In this case, it’s particularly galling because I spent 8 months walking this idiot back from the Hillary hate and being very gentle about it. Even in this case, I pulled punches by attacking the author of the image rather than my friend directly. I’m just so sick of being nice to people who do their level best to undercut themselves and everything they’re working for.

Note: This guy did vote for Hillary. And he was okay with her prior to the election, though he spent a huge amount of time publicly mourning Bernie and attacking Hillary for things that never quite added up. But he’s not a total idiot.

The moral arc, demographics, yada yada yada, fuck them we’re going to take our country back from the interminably stupid. In the meantime, hell no, I’m not watching a bunch of goddamn werewolves come out and hump each other butt naked in public, howling like the foul creatures they always knew they wanted to be. That’s exactly what they looked like to me right after 11/8. Fuck no, I’m better than them.

We didn’t go out and buy “conservative tear mugs” and act like assholes when Obama won, did we? Nope. We were too busy rejoicing in bettering our lives and seeing our country move forward. They’re small, petty people. I’d rather lose with you all than win with their ilk, every single time.
