It’s a hard day. But, we’re patriots and we have to buck up for the fight.
Pogonip
Was the person who had the dog with the torn pad able to get in to the vet today? If so, what did he say?
Also, can any of you chef types figure out what happened to my egg?
Baud
I think I might try to hang out more with politicians. For all of their faults, they don’t go around saying how we’re doomed all the time.
catclub
@Pogonip:
arf!
Pogonip
@catclub: Dr. Arf is a pretty good vet.
Baud
@Pogonip: Avoid Dr. Alf if you have cats, however.
Pogonip
Dr. Arf is an excellent vet.
Baud
@rikyrah: Yep.
HeleninEire
@Pogonip: LOL Saw your egg thing. It was that the shell WOULD NOT FUCKING COME OFF right? As a non cook I can say that has happened to me. I blamed the egg and moved on.
Pogonip
@Baud: Sorry, I thought FYWP ate my remark.

Why does Samantha Bee have to say that Conway is a lovely person? That simply cannot be true. She is the spawn of Satan.

Боже мой, что с нами будет? Господи, помилуй, Господи, помилуй, Господи, помилуй. Спаси нашу бедную родину.
LAO
@Pogonip: I did. All went well, the vet irrigated the wound, prescribed some medication and sent us on our way with a new cone of shame and an appointment for next week.
ETA: I see hovercraft beat me to it. This is why I love the community.
Baud
@LAO: Good to hear.
Did you have an 11th circuit argument? How did that go?
eclare
@hovercraft: Thanks for letting us know!
LAO
@Baud: it went horrible. Some District Judge from Alabama was less then impressed with my argument. His accent was so thick, I could barely understand him. No decision yet, but I’m not optimistic.

Actor Mel Ferrer has died at age 61. He appeared most recently on NCIS:Los Angeles
I knew that his father was actor José Ferrer, but I had forgot that his mother was Rosemary Clooney, and his cousin was George Clooney.

@LAO: Purple stuff on the pad?

Arcade Fire released a pre-Inauguration song that really hits home – “I Give You Power”. What hits home is the line “I can take it away.” Proceeds from sales of the single going to the ACLU.

@zhena gogolia:
I think the same way people say the shitgibbon is personable in person, apart from lying to your face constantly, they are pleasant while you are in front of them. Personally I find the fact that you are a polite piece of shit does not mitigate your terribleness. Katy Tur kept saying all through the campaign how nice he was in person, even though he repeatedly called her out by name in front of his rabid fans, causing the secret service to have to escort her out on more than one occasion. But hey he’s personable !!
Baud
@Brachiator: Google says he died in 2008. Is there another Mel?
zhena gogolia
@Brachiator:
Okay, you must be talking about Miguel Ferrer. Mel Ferrer died ages ago and is no relation to Jose.
Baud
@LAO: I’m sorry. Did you look good?
zhena gogolia
@Baud:
I think he means Miguel. Good actor.
I loved Mel — he played Prince Andrei in King Vidor’s War and Peace, and was married to Audrey Hepburn. He wasn’t related to Jose.

@zhena gogolia: His character on NCIS LA had throat cancer. Didn’t realize they were incorporating his real life into the show.

@Baud: no. It was 95 degrees out and raining. It was a really great day. ?
Baud
@LAO: Sucks.

I offer here, to all Juicers, my official summation of the Presidency of Barack Obama:
He rode a blazing saddle
He wore a shining star
His job to offer battle
To bad men near and far
He conquered fear and he conquered hate
He turned our night into day
He made his blazing saddle
A torch to light the way.
raven
@LAO: Aw ya’ll will be fine.

I was not pleased with that segment. Yea Samantha slammed her but only kinda. Samantha was nicer to her than I think was prudent or reasonable. Jon Stewart redux.

@Petorado:
“Hollywood” really, really doesn’t like the shitgibbon :-(
Nancy Sinatra.
Donald Trump is reportedly using the classic Frank Sinatra theme song, “My Way” as his dance number during the Inauguration Ball — with his wife. Not “our way,” or any other romantic song that didn’t point to him, he chose “ my way.” The man continues to put us into disbelief, disgust and embarrassment multiple times a day.

@Hungry Joe: Love it!

Judge a person by their actions, not whether they can make pleasant small talk. KAC is in large part responsible for inflicting pain on millions of Americans. If she fucking DIAF tomorrow, and the world would be better off. And Cuomo in the Sam Bee segment is truly a disgusting suck-up. Any journalist integrity he might of had ended with that exchange.

I just realized that the “celebration” has officially begun, the shitgibbon was supposed to address his supporters at 5.30 to kick off his pre-inauguration concert. Is anyone watching? I no longer watch political coverage, perhaps there’s been a report of locusts or frogs?

@zhena gogolia: Our fatal pick-up truck dashes on in her headlong flight perhaps to destruction and in all of America for long past men have stretched out imploring hands and called a halt to its furious reckless course. And if other nations stand aside from that pick-up that may be, not from respect, as the poet would fain believe, but simply from horror. From horror, perhaps from disgust. And well it is that they stand aside, but maybe they will cease one day to do so and will form a firm wall confronting the hurrying apparition and will check the frenzied rush of our lawlessness, for the sake of their own safety, enlightenment and civilisation. Already we have heard voices of alarm from Europe, they already begin to sound.

Just come back from a pub quiz. One of the questions was, “Who was Time Magazine’s Person of the Year for 2016?” When the quizmaster came to give the answer, she asked people not to boo. She was ignored and the boos rang long and loud!

I love Samantha Bee. I did not like this. Normalising! It was 7 nightmarish minutes highlighting the complete ineptitude of the MSM juxtaposed with complete fucking evil. Not helping my attempts to rise out of the depths of despair.
Tonight I decided that if anyone here (in the UK) refers to the shitgibbon as my president (in conversation with me) I will say that he is not. That I don’t have a president. And I will not until that horrible man and the swamp scum he’s dragged into the WH are all gone. Most will know better than to argue with me about that.

Why is this in moderatin?
Let’s try this again.
Anti-Gay, Anti-Muslim Pastor To Deliver Inauguration Day Sermon To Trump
Rev. Robert Jeffress, a Southern Baptist and a fervent supporter of President-elect Donald Trump, deliver a sermon in the private service. Another unnamed source involved in the service told the network that Jeffress was scheduled to take part in it.
Jeffress has built a reputation for attacking other religions over the years, especially in his capacity as a commentator on Fox News.
In 2010, Jeffress said Islam promoted pedophilia, violence and the oppression of women, claims he has often repeated. The worst thing about Islam, he said at the time, “is that it is a deception that leads people from the true God.”
He has also called Mormonism a “cult”, including during the 2012 presidential campaign. Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney (R), a Mormon, was the Republican Party’s nominee for president that year.
In anticipation of the Supreme Court’s 2015 ruling that legalized gay marriage nationwide, Jeffress compared gay relationships to incest. Later that summer, he claimed that Christians in America “are being marginalized the way Jews in Germany were.”………..
“Pastor Jeffress is a unifying figure representing a diverse spectrum of Americans,” the person said. “Any attempt to vilify this religious leader is deeply disappointing and misplaced.”
Who wants to bet that the last sentence didn’t come from the Spokes-Cobra ?
I asked them to delete this, if it ever sees the light of day. I’m Sorry ;-(

@LAO: Uh… everything that guy just said is bullshit… Thank you.
Baud
@Baud: This should be the standard Dem response to everything Trump does.
Archon
@p.a.: I honestly don’t even think a war or major terrorist attack would consolidate Trumps support. This only things at this point that I could see turning this around for Trump is a major technological breakthrough happening on his watch that the country and world benefits mightily from.
Doesn’t mean he can’t be re-elected since we painfully found out elections are a binary choice but short of internet squared being invented or cancer being cured I don’t see what Trump could do to make himself and his administration popular, he’s gone too far down the rabbit hole with his antics.
MisterForkbeard
This is more open thread material, but I just hauled off on a longtime friend on facebook for posting anti-Hillary/pro-Bernie propaganda. He’s trying to start shit NOW. Like, on the eve of the inauguration.
I honestly do not know what is with these fuckers. I like Bernie and I like his positions, though I have some significant problems with his campaign’s behavior. I even supported him for a long while before switching to Hillary. But oh my god, I cannot and could never stand his self-righteous idiot supporters that have no idea what they’re talking about.
Sorry, I’m just so wound up over all this. How does anything think starting an intra-left fight is a good idea right now? Not to mention just being an asshole move (and his propaganda didn’t even make any logical sense, either).

@Baud: It was less that twenty seconds, and I survived. After Trump mentioned the world is talking about him, they said well let’s go back to traffic.

@Baud: Yes, but it’s very classy bullshit.
Baud
@Archon: I could see it if he doesn’t blow up the world and the economy is strong in 2020 as a matter of happenstance.
@MisterForkbeard: White guy?

If you are marching any where on Saturday, please consider a sign honoring Hillary and/or her 2.8 million vote victory. And spare not the Comey intervention, either.
Linda Sansour, one of the organizers of the DC march, is a big Bernista. She has refused to put Hillary on the list of Revolutionary Women for whom the march is said to be honoring. Women who are marching are just finding out how much Sansour hates Hillary and are furious. FaceBook is apparently abroil.
Here is Sansour’s explanation why No Hillary:
Bernie still determined to destroy the Democratic Party it seems.
Sloane Ranger
@trollhattan: @JPL: @Baud: It gave me a nice tingly feeling. Actually I’m amazed at how widespread the Trump hate is here in the UK. Even my Brexit supporting uncle despises him!

Did Sansour even vote for Hillary?

I hated The Daily Show (well, really just Jon Stewart) so I almost never watched it and I’ve never seen her new show (don’t even know what network she’s on), but if this is some sort of big takedown, I’m not impressed. It wasn’t very funny and it didn’t have very sharp claws. When you go out of your way to say how nice she is, any other point you make is moot. She can’t be that bad if she’s so nice, right? Fuck that shit. She isn’t nice. She’s a disgusting, lying piece of shit who is happy to see millions suffer and die for her own profit and power. She is the worst sort of person and it shows in her face. She’s much younger than me and looks a decade older. Evil shows as we age. You can’t hide it with youth and beauty anymore.
MisterForkbeard
@BillinGlendaleCA: I’ve seen that too.
In this case, it’s particularly galling because I spent 8 months walking this idiot back from the Hillary hate and being very gentle about it. Even in this case, I pulled punches by attacking the author of the image rather than my friend directly. I’m just so sick of being nice to people who do their level best to undercut themselves and everything they’re working for.
Note: This guy did vote for Hillary. And he was okay with her prior to the election, though he spent a huge amount of time publicly mourning Bernie and attacking Hillary for things that never quite added up. But he’s not a total idiot.

Im slowly coming past the despair, I think. We’re gunna beat these fuckers in the end. The moral arc, demographics, yada yada yada, fuck them we’re going to take our country back from the interminably stupid. In the meantime, hell no, I’m not watching a bunch of goddamn werewolves come out and hump each other butt naked in public, howling like the foul creatures they always knew they wanted to be. That’s exactly what they looked like to me right after 11/8. Fuck no, I’m better than them.
We didn’t go out and buy “conservative tear mugs” and act like assholes when Obama won, did we? Nope. We were too busy rejoicing in bettering our lives and seeing our country move forward. They’re small, petty people. I’d rather lose with you all than win with their ilk, every single time.

I don’t think Bernie is a bad person, I just think him and his advisors got too close to the ring of power which damaged their judgment. I also think it’s a lesson in letting people run for office that have no institutional loyalty to the party that they are running in. A person who truly cared about the Democratic Party wouldn’t have behaved as he did, especially at the end of the primary.
