Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Speaking of republicans, is there a way for a political party to declare intellectual bankruptcy?

We still have time to mess this up!

No offense, but this thread hasn’t been about you for quite a while.

If you are still in the GOP, you are an extremist.

Let us savor the impending downfall of lawless scoundrels who richly deserve the trouble barreling their way.

Come on, man.

They’re not red states to be hated; they are voter suppression states to be fixed.

We are aware of all internet traditions.

Today was a good day

More people showed up to protests today than showed up to the inauguration yesterday.

Trump was spooked into an insane rambling speech before the CIA.

Thanks to everyone who showed up to a march today. Don’t let establishment media tell you you were too shrill.

One down and 1460 to go.

Vive la resistance.

I’d add Sean Spicer’s Spitting Shitshow of Shame press statement.

MSM, now that they don’t have bothsidesism operating, are actually going after the outright lies.

In his few minutes today, in trying to claim Trump’s inauguration was the most well-attended “ever,” Spicer lied about:

    – DC Transit numbers (Obama’s were much higher, both times; so were GWB’s second)
    – Magnetometers on the Mall: There were none.
    – Light-colored ground cover panels: They were not new to 2017; Obama’s 2013 inaugural had them, too.

I’d feel a little better about goading the Shitgibbon to his inevitable dissolution if I knew that Brennan and SecDef were all over the Senate to get the 25th Amendment proceedings teed up and ready to go at a moment’s notice. Be a pity to see civilization end because some random tweet was the last straw for him on a night when Jared and Ivanka decided to leave him with the babysitter.

@dr. bloor: LOL, this was rich:

Right after Spicer said Trump’s inauguration was the best attended “period,” he then went on to give a bunch of reasons why access to the Mall was harder in 2017 than in prior inaugurations.

These included higher security procedures, to wit, “magnetometers,” and more restricted areas.

    Both were lies.

IOW, “Ours was the most popular inaugural ever, but if it wasn’t, here’s why.”

And then he bulletpointed lie after lie.

I don’t get the strategy exhibited by Spicer; I happened to be watching FoxNews at the time and, after Spicer did his shitshow, even the Fox Trumpette’s were shocked into basically saying WTF was that shit? A wise person once said something to the effect of don’t get into a war of words with someone who buys ink by the barrel (should know who said it and far too lazy to look it up) but getting into an all out war with Big Media will not end well for Trump.

    Today was a good day

I was just thinking that. Yesterday at this time I was depressed, despondent, weeping, grouchy, and snarly to everyone who came within about 50 feet of me.

Tonight, after a top-notch, truly incredible performance of Roméo et Juliette at the MET Opera Live in HD this afternoon, and then hours of reading through all the BJ posts and photos and reports on Women’s Marches around the country and around the word, I find myself feeling really pumped for the first time at least since November 8th.

So, yeah, it was indeed a good day.

He did more than “speak to the CIA”. He spoke in front of the wall of memorial stars, each star representing a death in service to our country. He defiled that space.

“Former CIA Director Brennan is deeply saddened and angered at Donald Trump’s despicable display of self-aggrandizement in front of CIA’s Memorial Wall of Agency heroes,” Nick Shapiro said in a statement. “Brennan says that Trump should be ashamed of himself.”

ETA: I am told that the senior staff who were at the speech stood stoically during it. No clapping or laughing or anything else. I find this quite telling.

I’m so thrilled about the march turnouts around the world today. I had to go to work, so my husband represented us at the Los Angeles march. The turnout was incredible and he said the Metro was unbelievably packed and the positive energy palpable. I’m energized because it’s one thing to know that there are like-minded people on Balloon Juice and another to meet strangers in person who are now seriously thinking about running for office, as my husband did. I hope that comes true.

Mr. Fremont: Oh, sure you did, you had a real good time, and it’s good that you had a good time, it’s real good. It’s, uh, just that…

The Cincinnati march was a lot bigger than I thought it would be, but I don’t expect to ever hear a good estimate. Just that there were thousands.

Lots of funny and creative signs. A few speakers went on too long about how the whole “system” needs to be torn down — sigh — that I could have lived without. A pretty white crowd but a fabulous mix of ages, lots of young children. Saving my pink pussy hat because I think there will be other occasions to wear it.

Oh, shit, that would be great. His deep, abiding and seemingly growing unpopularity is already eating at him. Marches in every town he shows up to will only speed that up. Normally, I wouldn’t wish for the psychic disemboweling of anybody. But in this case, this guy needs to get the fuck out of office right quick, for the good of the country. The fact that his Cro-Magnon fans will lose their shit and most likely take it out on the feckless RINOs (that is, any Republican who didn’t personally slaughter any protester who dared disrespect their Dear Leader) only makes it all the more pressing that this guy go, and fast.

I agree, but…does everybody remember Dark Trump? The guy who was alternately raging and mumbling through his speeches and appearances the last month of the campaign? We’re going to see Dark Trump come back right quick.

He’ll order up another round of rallies in the red states. My fear is that the protest marches and demonstrations will indeed follow…but follow too closely. Folks, encourage people to keep protesting, but trying to get right in there up against the mouth-breathers who support this guy, that’s not smart or safe.

The whole time we’ve been meeting to stitch together and cheering each other on. So today as we watched our hats march all over the world we all felt so connected. What an amazing thing to be a part of. We are not stopping.

My favorite pu_ssyhat at the march I attended was worn by a woman in her 89s. She made ears out of pink mittens her mother had knit for her when she was a little girl so her mother could march with her today.

As a woman with a Trump scarf on climbed into the backseat of a black Suburban — her driver standing by her side, eagerly waiting for her to sit down so he could close the door — she kept lunging out the vehicle to give her commentary on the scene around her. She was clearly disgusted by the marchers surrounding her car. At one point, the woman in the Suburban said to a passerby:
“If you people had jobs, you wouldn’t be out here doing this mess.”
As this happened, another woman walked by and, without pausing to look at the Chevrolet Suburbanite, said:
    “Bitch, it’s Saturday.”
    Today was a great day.

@MomSense: My favorite pu_ssyhat at the march I attended was worn by a woman in her 89s. She made ears out of pink mittens her mother had knit for her when she was a little girl so her mother could march with her today.

    That’s fantastic.

“There’s talk in the media of holding Donald Trump accountable, and I’m here to tell you it goes two ways,” Spicer said. “We are going to hold the press accountable, as well.”

and the Ari Flieshcer opines that came straight from Trump himself.

Trump’s having a meltdown on day one. Damn. No wonder the press is pushing back. Trump’s cut off access so that have to reason to play nice now with Trump.

@SiubhanDuinne: I feel pretty, pretty, pretty good today today.

On my way to work today I passed women carrying signs hand in hand with small children, older kids, and babes in strollers on their way to join the gathering and march on and around the town square – a few hundred feet from where I work. One source estimated the crowd at 3,000 – which is a bunch, even here in Sonoma which has massive community involvement to support many causes.

I got kind of verklempt, and felt quite a bit of that “hope” thing. Many pussyhats in varying shades of pink were present. Many men, too. A couple of women in their late seventies sat on the bench outside our shop window waiting for their ride, post protest – and a man stopped to take their picture with their signs. Feeling so much better than I did yesterday.

    @Percysowner: That sounds about right.

The CIA isn’t filled with a bunch of know-nothing sycophants. They’re professionals and they’re going to act that way, especially when what they’re doing in their first interactions with a new president is being filmed for broadcast. They’re not going to be hooting and hollering for a crazy old man who is pouting about his tiny crowd and how the press is picking on him.

How stupid do Trump’s people think we are?
