Now’s a good day to call your Senator and tell him or her to oppose all Trump cabinet nominees until the immigration ban is lifted. Also to tell them to filibuster any and all Trump SCOTUS nominees. If you can’t through to the DC office, try a local district office.

I called Brenda Lawrence, MI-14, at lunch. The staffer said I was the 22nd caller today. Keep it up, Juicers!

I called my MoCs this morning. I just offered support for Senator Tammy Baldwin, but I got full mailboxes for Senator Ron Johnson and a busy signal when I tried to call his local offices. (I’ll keep trying.) My House Rep’s office (WI-8) told me that they didn’t know how the Rep felt on the subject – to which I call bullshit.

Protest outside DiFi’s LA office at either 5 or 6 p.m. tonight. Protest outside Darrell Issa’s local office in Vista tomorrow 10 a.m.

Been calling–left a message on Schumer’s machine in Upstate thanking him for fighting everything tooth and nail. Can’t get through to his DC office, can’t get through to Gillibrand’s offices. Still trying!
Also–fellow New Yawkers–phone your State Senators to push for the New York Health Act:

An honest to god single-payer universal plan for New York.
It has passed the Assembly, and now needs to get through the Senate. We can do it, and make single-payer a reality in the US.

I couldn’t get through on the phone (busy) but I was able to fax a letter.

Have tried many times over the past week. Lines are always busy. I guess that is a good sign.

Isn’t it too close to the next election to consider any SCOTUS nominees? Hasn’t the precedent been established?

I called my senators’ and representative’s (local) offices last week, and I will do so again this week and for the foreseeable future. Except I make my calls on Wednesday. However, these bastards will always leave me a wide variety of topics about which to vent. Last week it was the gag order for administrative agencies, this week it’ll be the EO removing the CJCS and DIN from the NSC. Although my rep will probably hear about the Jewish-Armenian immigrant from Iran who performed my bypass surgery, because I’m guessing she’s heard of him.

@mousebumples:
Dumb-as-a-box-of-rocks Johnson’s mailbox has been full since Jan. 16.

@terben: He did officially open his re-election campaign. It would only be fair to let the people decide now that an election’s on.

@efgoldman: I know that. But I commended her for opposing the executive order and attending the rally, and encouraged her to pass legislation to protect refugees.
EDIT: And I did call my Senators as well.

Does it make any sense to call MoCs from other states? I want to encourage the Repubs who are opposing the EOs, however shakily. Does it do any good to call even if I’m not a constituent?

Don’t forget, if you’re getting busy signals or full voicemail boxes, you can also fax. Worst case scenario, send a hand-written POSTCARD since a letter in an envelope may get held up for anthrax-related security reasons.
(A postcard may still get held up, but not as long.)

Senator Bob Casey has finally found his voice. Going after Mnuchin big time. Hope it pressures Toomey who may vote against Devos – calls are continuing.

@NoraLenderbee: I don’t know the real answer, but it’s probably worth a try.
If you’re calling to praise or agree with a statement that they’ve made, the staffer will be happy to hear it. Even people from out of state can donate money.
If you’re calling to pressure them to do something they don’t want to do, you’ll have more traction if they belong to your party and it’s something mainstream within the party and/or if their district is close to your district.
I called the DSCC last week and explained that I don’t have a Democratic Senator of my own. The staffer there (politely) suggested I call Minority Leader Schumer’s office (all lines busy and mailboxes full) or a nearby Democratic Senator (I live 20 miles from a state with 2 of them).
Bottom line: Calling an out-of-district Representative or Senator probably won’t be the most useless thing I do today.

Haven’t been able to get thru’ by phone, so emailed both my Senators. I’ve heard email isn’t as effective as calling, but had to do *something*!

I’d add that you should tell them that you want more than a simple “no” vote – you want them to object to proceeding by unanimous consent, you want them to demand the full amount of debate required by the Senate’s rules on every nominee, you want them to throw as much sand in the gears as possible. Just like Mitch McConnell & Co. did.
Gravie
My two senators, Merkley & Wyden, have been fabulous. I called both their offices and told them they’d have my full support in opposing any and all of Trump’s nominees.

And call your local news media, tv stations, newspapers.

In NC, Burr’s local and national office lines were all down. Tillis (Tillis!) released a statement hedging on the Muslim ban. For non-NC folk, Thom Tillis was our speaker of the house when we became the “newly insane state of North Carolina” as Charles Pierce puts it. His Raleigh office answered.
Keep calling!

@pat: His Milwaukee office (414) was often busy but did end up letting me leave a voice mail. For the record.
