Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

The words do not have to be perfect.

I’m sure you banged some questionable people yourself.

Peak wingnut was a lie.

It may be funny to you motherfucker, but it’s not funny to me.

The GOP couldn’t organize an orgy in a whorehouse with a fist full of 50s.

If senate republicans had any shame, they’d die of it.

The poor and middle-class pay taxes, the rich pay accountants, the wealthy pay politicians.

The party of Reagan has become the party of Putin.

Seems like a complicated subject, have you tried yelling at it?

And now I have baud making fun of me. this day can’t get worse.

I see no possible difficulties whatsoever with this fool-proof plan.

Republican obstruction dressed up as bipartisanship. Again.

White supremacy is terrorism.

Optimism opens the door to great things.

The cruelty is the point; the law be damned.

Whoever he was, that guy was nuts.

Speaking of republicans, is there a way for a political party to declare intellectual bankruptcy?

Russian mouthpiece, go fuck yourself.

It’s always darkest before the other shoe drops.

In my day, never was longer.

I wonder if trump will be tried as an adult.

Conservatism: there are some people the law protects but does not bind and others who the law binds but does not protect.

Wow, you are pre-disappointed. How surprising.

No offense, but this thread hasn’t been about you for quite a while.

Hard to overstate how ticked off Hill Rs are 2day with Trump running end around them w/refugee ban. W/@kelsey_snell: https://t.co/EfY7giNqKH

— Sean Sullivan (@WaPoSean) January 30, 2017

From the article:

Several GOP aides who requested anonymity to speak openly about the sensitive discussions said they were frustrated and surprised by the order and were forced to scramble to respond as chaos spread at airports across the country. Many said they felt the administration was moving too swiftly and without respect for critical protocol for vetting executive actions that have been in place for decades.

“This is emblematic of a new, power-hungry White House staff flexing its muscles without consulting the public servants responsible for implementing their fiats. If this type of behavior continues, then this administration is going to lose all of its friends very quickly,” said one Senate GOP aide.

As Republicans sparred over the formulation of the ban, they also tried to head off intense criticism that the order unfairly targets Muslims and does little to prevent terrorist attacks in the United States.

Oh you poor fucking dears. However mad you are, I bet you aren’t as pissed off as the people being detained and having every cavity finger-fucked by Trump’s CPB STASI. Not to mention, you probably shouldn’t have spent the last sixteen years villifying muslims, you twats.

BTW- will ICE be another renegade branch of Homeland Security like CBP has been the past few days, refusing to follow court orders and basically telling everyone to fuck off?

While Trump is running around and doing crazy things, and his supporters applauding a real tough white man in the White House, China ups the ante:

China is preparing for a potential military clash with the United States, according to an article on the Chinese army’s website.

“The possibility of war increases” as tensions around North Korea and the South China Sea heat up, Liu Guoshun, a member of the national defense mobilization unit of China’s Central Military Commission, wrote on Jan. 20—the same day as President Donald Trump’s inauguration.

“‘A war within the president’s term’, ‘war breaking out tonight’ are not just slogans, but the reality,” Liu said in the Chinese commentary piece.

The commentary was first reported by South China Morning Post on Friday, and comes amid concerns about a trade war between the world’s two largest economies.

The White House did not immediately reply to a request for comment from CNBC.

Darrell Issa was dancing all around this in our telephone town hall today. CPB are idiots who don’t follow instructions well; order could have been written better and not released so soon; several out and out lies about how it was not applied to green card holders and/or citizens. Even the old, xenophobic, reliably republican callers who were allowed to speak were not entirely in favor of it.

Lots of anger with VA not being any better under Trump than Obama. Issa kept telling people to contact his office until one guy said he had been contacting his office for months and either the VA was lying to Issa or Issa’s office was lying to him.

Like I said before, you could hear him sweat over the phone. Trump just does not play well here in CA.

The reporter said that the conresscritters they’d called all denied involvement, Spicer replied that there are over 500 of them, and so unless they called all of them, there was no proof they hadn’t had input. He also claimed they consulted with the various committees who have jurisdiction over immigration. Who knows though since both sides are lying liars. @efgoldman:

And if a judge orders some ICE senior manager in front of the bench and threatens them with contempt, they’ll comply right quick

The problem is that judges tend to start from an assumption of reasonable good faith and only go on to throwing people in jail for contempt after they’ve been presented with cause. People who are interested in doing as much damage as possible will take advantage of that to muck stuff up while stalling in court, only to back out at the last minute to avoid personal consequences. And then they’ll try something just enough different that the whole thing has to be relitigated. Lather, rinse, repeat. It will take quite a while before the judges are willing to throw people in jail for contempt first and deal with the consequences later.
