Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

I’d like to think you all would remain faithful to me if i ever tried to have some of you killed.

Something needs to be done about our bogus SCOTUS.

Too often we hand the biggest microphones to the cynics and the critics who delight in declaring failure.

Happy indictment week to all who celebrate!

fuckem (in honor of the late great efgoldman)

If you’re pissed about Biden’s speech, he was talking about you.

Make the republican party small enough to drown in a bathtub.

Incompetence, fear, or corruption? why not all three?

Why is it so hard for them to condemn hate?

A snarling mass of vitriolic jackals

My years-long effort to drive family and friends away has really paid off this year.

The GOP is a fucking disgrace.

Bark louder, little dog.

When someone says they “love freedom”, rest assured they don’t mean yours.

You don’t get rid of your umbrella while it’s still raining.

Peak wingnut was a lie.

I know this must be bad for Joe Biden, I just don’t know how.

The GOP couldn’t organize an orgy in a whorehouse with a fist full of 50s.

People are complicated. Love is not.

We are aware of all internet traditions.

I was promised a recession.

Despite his magical powers, I don’t think Trump is thinking this through, to be honest.

“Everybody’s entitled to be an idiot.”

When I decide to be condescending, you won’t have to dream up a fantasy about it.

The Onion still killing it after all these years:

Also, I can’t believe no one else front paged this yet, but Melissa McCarthy as Sean Spicer was inspired:

Amazing.

The beautiful thing about the Spicer skit, most of it reflects accurately how Spicer treats the press corps.

This is from the Washington Post

A huge smile broke out on Falcons Coach Dan Quinn’s face after the “and sisterhood” line. Patriots Coach Bill Belichick didn’t appear to be as moved by the performance, but Belichick has never smiled about anything in his life, so the Schuyler Sisters shouldn’t take it personally.

Not quite. The biggest Superbowl comeback is 10 points. The biggest comeback ever is 27. If Atlanta had scored one more TD. But they did not. And San Francisco did score 30 points in the second half of SB XXI. So. It is possible for the Pats to come back, but all Atlanta really needs to do here is score 2 more TDs in the rest of the game and they win.

The candle thingummies that the crowd around the stage are holding up have been very popular in the massive protests here against the Korean version of corrupt idiot conservative president, namely Park Geun-hye, and her pet soothsayer/charlatan/cult-leader’s daughter Choi Soon-sil. There have been some counter-protests, which were recently revealed to have been substantially inflated by paying the homeless/jobless rather good wages for a day’s work chanting “Don’t cry, Park Geun-hye!”

@Suzanne: Cool lighting tech. I didn’t really care for Madonna the first time around, nor Gaga this time, but that’s just me. I try to enjoy the spectacle even if the music does nothing for me. 17 year old me would really hate my lack of fucks given. He would want more active hatred rather than just indifference.

Disappointed in the lack of shark costumes though. Not that I’m a KP fan either, but I preferred her show.

Pet peeve — is it me, or do people complain more about female Super Bowl performers than males? And they’re always lumped in with other female Super Bowl performers. Just got off a FB thread full of people bitching about Lady Gaga, and of course people brought up Janet Jackson (but not Justin Timberlake for some reason), Madonna and Beyonce. I guess men have never put on a bad or controversial show.
