Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

That’s my take and I am available for criticism at this time.

Not so fun when the rabbit gets the gun, is it?

Motto for the House: Flip 5 and lose none.

Balloon Juice has never been a refuge for the linguistically delicate.

Shallow, uninformed, and lacking identity

Let us savor the impending downfall of lawless scoundrels who richly deserve the trouble barreling their way.

Anyone who bans teaching American history has no right to shape America’s future.

Schmidt just says fuck it, opens a tea shop.

Historically it was a little unusual for the president to be an incoherent babbling moron.

It’s always darkest before the other shoe drops.

Fuck these fucking interesting times.

The party of Reagan has become the party of Putin.

Jesus, Mary, & Joseph how is that election even close?

This has so much WTF written all over it that it is hard to comprehend.

This really is a full service blog.

… riddled with inexplicable and elementary errors of law and fact

Authoritarian republicans are opposed to freedom for the rest of us.

They traffic in fear. it is their only currency. if we are fearful, they are winning.

Meanwhile over at truth Social, the former president is busy confessing to crimes.

rich, arrogant assholes who equate luck with genius

When your entire life is steeped in white supremacy, equality feels like discrimination.

A sufficient plurality of insane, greedy people can tank any democratic system ever devised, apparently.

Sadly, there is no cure for stupid.

Pessimism assures that nothing of any importance will change.

That spells “moon.” Here’s tonight’s moon:

The mister grilled steaks, and I made baked potatoes for dinner. So I had the easy part.

My brother and I have successfully infiltrated the Boca Raton Resort and Golf Club for the weekend — all expenses paid — where we will be participating in the annual Concours d’Elegance car show and fund raiser. Nary a pussy-hat to be seen, but our very presence is a subtle form of resistance. And fun.

Struggling with two papers due back to back next monday and tuesday. Suddenly given a blessed extension on the harder one, in good shape for the “easier” one (potential role for social workers in working with refugee children in the public school system) and so am watching Victoria (BBC version) with spouse and child. The horror I experience trying to write my research methods paper can not be overestimated so the momentary respite I feel is extreme.

Leftover sketties here. I made a three-day sauce a week ago: started with seared oxtails braised in red wine, a mirepoix, and two heads of garlic. Then spicy Italian sausage, and simmer alllllllll the next day in sauce to loosen the oxtails. Serve on day three.

Oh and of course adding the powdered dried red peppers from our own garden, dried in the dehydrator and pulverized. OMG. Best sauce I’ve ever made.

Amazing how tRump’s Florida vacations are causing problems here in the Bahamas. The no-fly zones are fouling up charter flights between here and parts of Florida, and considerable air freight is not getting through from PBI. My neighbors haven’t been able to get back to the States because their charter plane simply can’t escape the zone, and a local fisherman isn’t able to get his catch to clients in the Palm Beach area via his usual carrier. I don’t really understand why so much area must locked down for so long, but I keep hearing from people who are seriously inconvenienced. When I talked to the head of immigration yesterday about applying for residency, she laughed and said she expected a lot more requests because of tRump.

@Chet Murthy: Spread the word. Tell people to not answer the door – ICE need a warrant to even check papers. If you are in a position of authority, know your rights and responsibilities. For instance, I am under instructions not to interact with federal officials without my employer’s legal council present. We are making extra efforts to ensure our immigration data is secure and not part of federal datasets unless legally required. Support state and local efforts:

    https://www.lamayor.org/statement-mayor-garcetti-ice-enforcement-actions

I’m going to wild guess that there will be a rally on the 26th (Oscar night). Be there. The community needs support from people that don’t look like they would have their papers checked.
