Does anyone else think that the Supremes covering Rogers and Hart in 1967 is really damn interesting? Perhaps I’m a fool and I don’t know it. Open thread.

I had one of those life’s little victories today. Did my income tax & only had to send the Fed $2! I was so tempted to go back & fudge something just to make it come out to zero but I didn’t.

How about Love covering Bacharach.

@Schlemazel: We’re looking for a whopper return since we dumped a good bit of or salaries into 403b’s!

Had email today from a friend in NH who’s so incensed by Trump’s voter fraud allegation that she made me laugh:
Thru the Looking Glass...
Great title for a song, btw…

Schindler’s piece today, “The spy revolt against trump begins”, is worth a read. Shudder. http://observer.com/2017/02/donald-trump-administration-mike-flynn-russian-embassy/

Always enjoyed the 1990 Aids fundraiser, Red, Hot and Blue featuring pop “stars” of the day covering Cole Porter songs. This one with Deborah Harry and Iggy Pop makes me smile, but maybe I am a fool and don’t know it.

Rodgers, please.
Did anyone see the Smokey Robinson Gershwin award thing the other night? He was the best performer of the evening, and graciously sang a Gershwin song, “Our Love Is Here To Stay,” so beautifully.

@zhena gogolia: It always breaks my heart to hear that Gershwin song, as I believe it was the last thing he wrote. What a sad loss! As for the Supremes cover of Bewitched, I love it, but I know I’m a fool…

Screwed up the link thing. Also, need to go a minute in before Iggy and Deborah get going.

@Major Major Major Major: I’ve been seeing the Observer all over the place recently. Who runs that outfit?

@Baud: Schindler is one of the remaining independent voices.

@raven:
That’s the most un-Bacharachian Bacharach song.

Thanks. I’ll check them out.

The phrase in your title reminds me of another snippet of lyrics–
“I don’t remember what day it was
I didn’t notice what time it was…”
I know it’s the worst sort of bubblegum pop, but I confess to having a giant soft spot for that song. Spiral Starecase (sic), “More Today than Yesterday.” Always cheers me up (and describes how I feel about Ms. Oldster, 35+ years later).

@Baud: I thought you were being sarcastic. Kushner owns (owned?) it. But Schindler is good.
Baud
@Major Major Major Major: I was serious. I’ve suddenly started seeing their stories all over the place. Thanks for the warning.

Trump’s tweets as early 2000’s emo music is hilarious. I would so buy this album.

I believe that’s Tony Middleton on the vocals, doing his down-market Tom Jones impression. Nice arrangement. Wish I could hear Tom Jones do it.

@raven: What is 403b?
ThresherK
@Mart: My then-GF got that CD and it was through that I took the opportunity to educate her on the wonders of Cole Porter. We have been together ever since, and some Cole Porter and Rodgers & Hart certainly helped.

PS
The Supremes sing
“Long for the days when I cling to him”
not
“Worship the trousers that cling to him”
But, hey, that was about 25 years after Harry James made an instrumental hit of this because any version of the lyric was too risque for mainstream, so it’s a bit of progress. I am not expecting anyone on AM Top 40 radio in the ’60s to record the verse:

Some of the first Rodgers and Hart songs I heard were the ones the Supremes did on The Supremes Sing Rodgers & Hart LP. My uncle down in Virginia had it among his collection. I was probably in grade school when I first heard that record. My favorite from the album is “Lover.” It’s fun, and it was a gateway for me to start listening to jazzier versions of those songs on my dad’s jazz records.

The Fontaine Sisters had some beautiful harmony on “I Didn’t Know What Time it Was”. I love this version because it incorporates scenes from one of my favorite movies, A Letter to Three Wives.

For the record (heh), I have the Supremes’ Christmas CD.
