There is no depth to which the Wingnut Wurlitzer will not stoop, because they are devoid of shame — and they assume their fellows have no memory of history. Norman Rockwell was not on your side, idiots!
The cartoon riffs on Norman Rockwell's "The Problem We All Live With," depicting Ruby Bridges in New Orleans' 1960 desegregation crisis. /2 pic.twitter.com/7paH2CVV4O

debbie
Does the A in a circle behind DeVos mean anything?
Mnemosyne
I don’t usually use the word “offended,” but holy motherfucking shit I am fucking offended right now. As an American and as a goddamned human being.
These assholes have no limits. None.
efgoldman
There are no fucking depths.
None that we can imagine.
None that Dante could imagine
None that Bosch could imagine
None

@debbie:
It’s an “anarchy” symbol.
Jim, Foolish Literalist
@debbie: anarchist symbol, I believe
? Martin
@debbie: Yes, that the emblem for anarchy.
trollhattan
White billionaire heiresses are acknowledged as history’s most-discriminated against minority. Look it up, libs!
Also too, the suck cannot be calculated.

It’s a symbol for Anarchy.

Thanks. Always the last to know.
Adam L Silverman
@debbie: Its the symbol for anarchy/anarchists. Like the swastika has become for NAZIs and neo-NAZIs and the Celtic Cross in a circle has become for white supremacists.
Mike J
@debbie: It’s the symbol for aardvark, a South African animal favoured by white supremacists.
PeakVT
Wow.
Pretty soon, all wingnuts will be convinced that the slightest taunt from a liberal is an experience exactly like Jesus’s crucifixion. If they don’t already.
If only we could harness conservative butthurt for the power grid…
terben
Racist arsehattery, like rust, never sleeps!
Mike J
@terben: And the double live album sucks.
Major Major Major Major
Isn’t that one of the paintings Obama hung in the White House?
Mnemosyne
Also, any moron who can’t figure out why this comparison is offensive needs to have their right to vote yanked immediately, because they’re clearly incapable of basic logic and empathy.
Elizabelle
The cartoonist is a crank. Here’s a link to his newspaper, The Belleville News-Democrat, and earlier work.
You’ll note Trump welcoming a white guy in a hard hat out of his “Obama shelter.” “Come on out. It’s safe again.”
And Trump drinking from a pitcher of “Chuck Schumer’s tears.”
Today’s cartoon is Flynn (in military uniform) dead to “leaks” in a “St. Valentine’s Day Massacre.” The shooter is a gangster donkey.

@Mnemosyne:

So billionaire Secretary DuVois, as I shall henceforth be calling her, is a victim of oppression, huh? SAD.

mccoy has always been a racist pos.
Mike J
@Major Major Major Major: Maybe on loan. I saw it at a Rockwell show at Tacoma Art Museum in ’11.

Thanks.
@Mike J:
I’m afraid to Google that.

@Elizabelle:
So, basically, McCoy is a Russian puppet controlled by foreigners.
He’s not going to give a shit if we point out that he’s a racist asshole, so I’m thinking of another line of attack that might actually sting.
efgoldman
@Adam L Silverman:
Wait a minute….
Anarchists agree on a common symbol?
Then they’re not anarchists any more.

@Mike J: yeah, he requested it. It was in the hallway behind the Oval Office, I swear.

@efgoldman:
Well, we’re not saying that they agree, just that we agree. For example, we can agree that Trump should be called Corporal Shitgibbon, but he may not agree to that.

Get every one of these vicious rotted heart criminals out of the WH and banned from government NOW.

Things like this should never be let to be lived down.

@Major Major Major Major: There was a photo of him at some point standing with Ruby Bridges in front of the painting.
Another Scott
@amk: I was going to say, “McCoy is a crank”, myself. His comics of Obama and Lynch were disgusting.
Cheers,
Scott.
Elizabelle
@amk: Happily, I had never heard of Mr. McCoy before the “DeVois” (love it!) cartoon.
Not one of the greats. May he return to oblivion.
Enhanced Voting Techniques
hmm would it be impolite to suggest a “McCoy fucks a goat” art contest?
Elizabelle
@EBT: Like that. It’s even a better drawn cartoon. Well done.

AL, I saw this referenced earlier on ArchPundit’s twitter but didn’t have time to research it and then got distracted. I did not understand the reference until now.
Thank you for enlightening me.

Holy fuck.

@stinger:
That’s very clever.
Mnemosyne
@PeakVT:
Yeah, now I’m circling around to, Jesus, these are some delicate snowflakes, aren’t they?
Glenn McCoy clearly needs a safe space and a blankie so he can get over the horrible trauma of an adult politician being questioned by American citizens. The horror, the horror …
randy khan
Obviously any people who complain about this cartoon are the real racists.
dmsilev
At least the cartoonist recognizes that ‘conservative’ is a pejorative term.
?BillinGlendaleCA
@Mike J: Tacoma has an art museum? I remember when I was a kid, you knew you were about 10-15 miles from Tacoma because you could smell it.
Calming Influence
The up-side of the Tangerine Scheme administration is that it will finally put to rest the happy-horseshit idea that the U.S. government should be run like a business. And maybe also kill the idea that trickle-down economics is anything more than an unwelcome golden shower on the middle class.
[And you get a pony, and you get a pony, and you get a pony…]

@?BillinGlendaleCA:
I’ve been there a couple of times, and it’s pretty good. It has a nice collection of contemporary glass art (thanks in large part to Dale Chihuly, but they have work by other top-notch people as well because Washington is a mecca for glass) and puts on good shows. In fact, the director just got hired away to run the Smithsonian American Art Museum.

@?BillinGlendaleCA: At one point in Mark Lindquist’s novel Never Mind Nirvana (set in the mid ’90s Seattle music scene), a character says to her boyfriend, “Fuck me like we’re in Tacoma.” I’ve never been to Tacoma, but I made assumptions.

I will be the first to admit I am a very poor student of history. I had hoped I was mistaken what was being discussed down thread regarding this cartoon.
It is worse than I thought – those fucking shitheads.

A comment regarding Oroville and the evacuation order being lifted. I learned at the end of the day, as I was heading off to an appointment, that some of our folks were helping with the modeling for that decision. What the state wanted to know was given the forecast and snowpack and their ability to remove water from the lake, what was the likelihood that this next storm would overwhelm the dam, assuming they can keep using the main spillway. We have a top-notch hydrology/water team that was able to run that information and gave a recommendation that they’d be fine. I don’t think ours was the only team, but more eyes, and all that.
Anyway, the ability to do that analysis was because we are collecting climate data. The satellites that are measuring rainfall, snowpack, sea surface temperatures, ground temperatures, storm patterns, and all of that gave us the data to solve this problem. Without those satellites and all of that data the government collects and widely distributes, they would have had to more or less guess whether to lift the evacuation order or not. NASA is important. Climate science is important. Science in general is important. Engineering and not deferring maintenance is important.
?BillinGlendaleCA
@Calming Influence: Well this was back in the 60’s and early 70’s, I’m not sure if it was the pulp mills or the smelter.
rikyrah
thanks for the storify.
? Martin
@Calming Influence: It won’t put any of that to rest unfortunately. It’ll reduce the number of supporters of those notions, sure, but the general public is all too eager to believe that their unicorns are real, no matter how much evidence you provide to the contrary. If you accept that government can’t be run like a business, then you have to accept that all people are equal and deserving of support from the government, and that’s a notion that I think this administration (and this cartoonist) has made perfectly clear that a LOT of people are not cool with.
?BillinGlendaleCA
@? Martin: From Weather Underground, it looks like this storm will be colder that the last several. That should help if there’s more snow and less rain and we don’t get another warmer storm that then melts the snow. I’ve got a weather station here, we’ve had pretty much a season of rain in the last month and a half.
Calming Influence
@?BillinGlendaleCA: And I will counter with Eureka, CA in the 80s and 90s. And the wind always seemed to blowing the wrong way.

This is bad, real bad. And it’s further evidence that we are living in two different worlds.

@? Martin: The message from this administration is that all 3 branches of government are equal, but one branch is more equal than the others.

Apparently DeVos needs to learn a lot of things before she can do her job…
So, looking for subtext to the cartoon that is not stupid,not absurd and not offensive.

@Calming Influence: So maybe we should put pressure on one of the other branches to say it is not so.

@Calming Influence:
” [And you get a pony, and you get a pony, and you get a pony…] ”
Well, you don’t actually ‘get’ a pony. You get a sketchy time share deal on a pony (or one of random ponies pending availability) with a hidden lease-back option that they can invoke at will that will cost you a fortune, with mandatory company arbitration for disputes, and a foot high stack of annexes with very fine print that says you lose.
Mister Papercut
The swapping of ‘KKK’ to ‘NEA’ from original to copy is a particularly “go fuck yourself sideways with a cactus, Glenn”-move.
? Martin
@Yarrow: Judicial is stepping up because the states are forcing the issue. The states are the ones wielding power here.
Comrade Colette Collaboratrice
@? Martin: Speaking of Oroville and the evacuation: articles from the Guardian and our shabby local paper about a wingnut who’s been evacuated with his family and has taken shelter at a Sikh temple in Sacramento. Long story short: Trump-voting asshole is filled with rage about Muslims, thinks EO banning them is great, then gets a lesson in compassion, hospitality, and generosity from people with turbans; head explodes. The Grauniad focuses unsparingly on the contradictions in his views and his struggle with cognitive dissonance. The San Francisco paper notes that he and his family (wife, four kids, five dogs), who are now utterly dependent on the goodwill of strange brown people, moved here three weeks ago from Kentucky and their only source of income is his firefighter disability pay.
I am a Jew and I must welcome the stranger. I am not, however, by nature a generous, compassionate soul. I SO BADLY want to kick his ass back to fucking Kentucky. Why, when I must fight my nature, does he get a pass for his?
ETA: question directed at G-d, as always.

I’d feel better about it if just one of the traitor states joined in one or another of the many suits, for many reasons, that are already filed.
Calming Influence
@Comrade Colette Collaboratrice: The best way to defeat your enemy is make him your friend.
Of course CA needs more more progressive voters like a moose needs a hat rack. So make him your friend, get him thinking straight, then boot his ass back to Kentucky.
? Martin
@Comrade Colette Collaboratrice: But that story is revelatory. The Sikh community is part of the reason why California is trending so blue. We all went through what that guy did years ago. If Kentucky was as diverse as California, they’d probably be a lot more liberal. That’s a good thing.
There are Sikh communities all through the central valley, some rather large ones. Some of those communities were founded as early as 1910, before Donald Trump’s mother made it to the US.
? Martin
@efgoldman: And that’s why I say this is a civil cold war. These states won’t find common ground.
? Martin
@Calming Influence: No, no, no! Keep him. We’ve got 14 GOP reps to vote out of CA, most of them up in that area.

No matter how many times you think to yourself, these people are scum who have absolutely no decency, somehow they keep managing to reach new levels of depravity. This is why there can be no working together or compromising with what this party and it’s supporters have become.
