Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Dear elected officials: Trump is temporary, dishonor is forever.

Let there be snark.

I see no possible difficulties whatsoever with this fool-proof plan.

There are some who say that there are too many strawmen arguments on this blog.

Come on, man.

They love authoritarianism, but only when they get to be the authoritarians.

Republicans do not pay their debts.

So it was an October Surprise A Day, like an Advent calendar but for crime.

There is no right way to do the wrong thing.

The republican caucus is covering themselves with something, and it is not glory.

The desire to stay informed is directly at odds with the need to not be constantly enraged.

This isn’t Democrats spending madly. This is government catching up.

There are consequences to being an arrogant, sullen prick.

Let’s delete this post and never speak of this again.

Well, whatever it is, it’s better than being a Republican.

Giving in to doom is how authoritarians win.

Republicans cannot even be trusted with their own money.

Hi god, it’s us. Thanks a heap, you’re having a great week and it’s only Thursday!

Shut up, hissy kitty!

The fight for our country is always worth it. ~Kamala Harris

Washington Post Catch and Kill, not noticeably better than the Enquirer’s.

My years-long effort to drive family and friends away has really paid off this year.

Not all heroes wear capes.

Is it negotiation when the other party actually wants to shoot the hostage?

@Rschooley @Karoli What I don't get is why he's campaigning now when he likely won't even survive the first year ?

— Don Klyne (@klyne_donald) February 18, 2017

It's the one thing he's been successful at politically? https://t.co/4sdl3QPvEm

Not even a month in and President Snowflake needs to throw a white power rally to feel better about himself.

— Scott Tobias (@scott_tobias) February 18, 2017

CNN [warning: autoplay] “Trump gets what he wants in Florida: Campaign-level adulation“:

… Trump, who just months ago finished campaigning for the office he now holds, was both selling what his administration has done in its first 30 days and trying to change the subject after a chaotic month. The President was forced to fire his national security adviser, struggled to roll out his travel ban and strained to explain a growing story about how members of his 2016 campaign made repeated contact with Russian individuals known to US intelligence…

What was unclear Saturday was what exactly Trump was campaigning for. The event was being run by Trump’s 2016 campaign, Donald J. Trump for President Inc.

Before taking the stage, Trump was asked if it was too early to do another campaign event. His response: “Life is a campaign.”

“Making our country great again is a campaign,” Trump added. “For me, it’s a campaign. To make America great again is absolutely a campaign.”…

Michael Caputo, a former senior adviser to Trump’s campaign, said he expects this sort of campaign-style event will be the “first of many.”

“He grew very familiar with the rally concept and I expect him to return to where he is comfortable when he needs to recharge,” Caputo said. “The fact that Trump showed us a new way of winning should have given everyone a hint that he would show everyone a new way of governing.”

All attendees now in the AeroMod hangar for the @realDonaldTrump rally. Total attendees at event = 9,000.

are we sure they aren't just airing a rerun of a speech from August

— Mark Berman (@markberman) February 18, 2017

I hope Trump feels better about his bad poll numbers and series of unforced errors, because making him less sad was the goal of the rally

— Dan Pfeiffer (@danpfeiffer) February 18, 2017

2/ weekend to his press conference last week. They aren't similar events, but to him they are. He's under attack and he rallies.

— Maggie Haberman (@maggieNYT) February 18, 2017

It's almost like the United States has no President – we are a rudderless ship heading for a major disaster. Good luck everyone!

“The fact that Trump showed us a new way of winning should have given everyone a hint that he would show everyone a new way of governing.”

Right… and in keeping w/ the whole “White Power/Neo Nazi” tone of the Trump Presidency, not to mention the astonishing ineptitude on display, perhaps that new way of governing could be called “The Shitzkreig”…

If Trump is going to start the 2020 race early, does that mean political attack ads are going to be a fact of life again effective immediately?

Also, if Trump steals from his campaign again for personal use, does he have immunity this time?

    new way of governing

Ain’t nothing new about corrupt incompetence. It was easy to predict it would be bad. Though really, I didn’t think our Republican president would be an order of magnitude worse than Berlusconi.

Hah. After the election I told my friends that an orange-haired Berlusconi was about the best we could hope for. Clearly Who/Whatever might be running the multiverse has not been disposed to be so kind…

It is amazing to me, that every bad thing said about Trump in the campaign has come true – and still these fucking morons turn out for him. You can sum up Republican support in two words: selfish pigs. They don’t care about country or others-so long as they get theirs. It would be interesting to run the numbers on how many of them are getting government benefits, ACA subsidies, SS, etc-while all the while they are cheering a man dedicated to destroying those benefits, and them.

Maggie Haberman’s tweets all read tainted to me now. No matter how.plain they are, I swear she could write something like “A bowling ball is round” and I’d wonder what Stockholm-y syndrome subtext would be in it.

Trump is a junkie. He needs his fix of adulation. Of course, like junkies, it’s never going to be enough. Prepare for the rally of the month, then week, then whatever they can do daily.

Whent that happens, hope that Congress decides to stop paying for that fix.

If people like @LouiseMensch are right then the Republican congressional majority must be desperate right now to figure out ways to turn Republican primary voters against the Republican president before #KremlinGate goes critical.

Childish gratification is sufficient reason for the Republican president to hold “campaign” rallies but regent Bannon may be playing for higher stakes.

My new hobby is figuring out how many scare quotes to add to things that get said by or about Trump.

The fact that Trump showed us a “new” way of “winning” should have given everyone a “hint” that he would show everyone a “new” “way” of “governing.”

The “White” House is running so “smoothly”. And “believe” me, I and we “inherited” one big “mess.”

@Darrin Ziliak (formerly glocksman): .First, very unfair to pigs, a rather intelligent & delightful animal. No, these are human beings getting a thrill up their leg on the tribal identity & mob action high. They can feel great about themselves just because they are White & “winning” means telling everyone not part of the tribe to suck it.

@bystander: I concur. I often use Cromwell when I need thoroughly useless and/or incompetent ppl to vacate my area, just to keep my “little grey cells” functioning. But your direction leaves my lips at least 20 times a day. BTW, the Rally was only a few miles away from me and I had to suffer thru dozens of ppl who had been there sharing their “joy”. Ppl I actually like. It was unpleasant, I can tell you.

“Making our country great again is a campaign,” Trump added. “For me, it’s a campaign. To make America great again is absolutely a campaign.”…
