What’s on the agenda for the new day?
.
In just #fiveweeks we have deepening questions about Russia's interference in our democracy while our President lashes out at the press.
— Jim Ludes (@JMLudes) February 25, 2017
In just #fiveweeks we've had an assault on the truth, on the constitution, on pluralism, diversity & decency.
— Jim Ludes (@JMLudes) February 25, 2017
But in those same #fiveweeks thousands upon thousands went to airports to protest the government & welcome refugees.
— Jim Ludes (@JMLudes) February 25, 2017
You are not alone. This is not over. We will not fail. #fiveweeks

Does one have to be a coward to be a Republican? No, but it helps: St Louis-area Republicans in Congress avoid raucous town halls
Yeah, keep fucking that chicken. We know what you are.
satby
It’s only been five weeks? Feels longer because the existential dread started in November, I guess. The resurgence of civic involvement by some people in resistance is a small comfort.
Good morning everyone. My son brought my car back last night, but I have to go to work, so I won’t get to spend much time with him before he leaves tomorrow with a (hopefully) repaired truck. And unfortunately for him, after a week of unseasonably warm weather, the high today will be about 30° for him to work outside.
Baud
We are Baud! Resistance is futile.
Baud
@satby: Good morning.
MJS
@amk: Kudos to all of them, but especially to Fox. Even though the fact that he’s been a citizen for 20 years should inoculate him from the present nonsense, it may not if Tiny Hands catches wind of this.
cynthia ackerman
This is fake news.
Half of those people at the airports are celebrating the 9/11 attacks.
The other half are really Trump fans greeting the return (FINALLY!!!) of the private investigators from Honolulu.
satby
@OzarkHillbilly: I really think that the term “chickenshit” needs to preface and and all mentions of the word Republican. Chickenshit Republicans, afraid of everything.
rikyrah
Good Morning, Everyone ???
Baud
@rikyrah: Good morning.

@Baud: ?

@satby:
No, chickenshit should not preface Republican.
It should replace the word

@satby: They aren’t all gutless weasels. Mark Sanford took the abuse and later said it was part of his job and it was important for him to hear his constituents’ concerns. But he is the exception that proves the rule.
Your son and I have truck problems in common. My fuel pump went out Thursday AM on a crooked and steep back road where I was lucky to find a ditch I could pull into. I get to bend over when I pick it up from the shop this morn.
satby
@Schlemazel: I’m good with that too.
Lapassionara
Good morning. Feels like five decades to me.

@OzarkHillbilly:
Don’t let them charge you for replacement of the piston return springs
Iowa Old Lady
@OzarkHillbilly: Maybe being R is a sign of cowardice. A few years back, I read a book called something like “The Republican Brain.” It turns out, in tests done with an MRI, their brains’ fear center lights up more than in Ds. That’s not exactly cowardice, but it suggests greater sensitivity to threat.

@MJS: The wife is planning on renewing her passport, though the kid wants to go to Korea with her, she’s going to keep a copy hand; just in case. She been a naturalized citizen since 1991.

Good Morning???.

@OzarkHillbilly: I think Sanford is styling himself for WH. After all, Trump has broken the “no blatant multi-married adulterers” rule forever.

As of 10 minutes ago, the man was still obsessing about the bigliness of various crowds:

So, apparently, when the FBI refused to come out and defend Dolt 45 regarding the Russia stories, they went to the Senate and House Intelligence Committees Chairs, Burr and Nunes, who were happy to do it. Via WaPo.
At this point, we must simply consider all Republicans as traitors.
Immanentize
@satby: instead of “chickenshit,” I have been going with “bed-wetting, pant-crapping Republicans” these days.
OzarkHillbilly
@Schlemazel: I don’t have to worry about that with these guys. Been doing business with them ever since I moved out here. Honest and conscientious just begin to describe them. Unlike the local Dodge dealer. Took my truck to them for a recall on the airbag, 15 mins later they came out and said they checked the alignment (because they are just so concerned about their customers, doncha know?) and in the process they discovered I had 2 bad tie rod ends and one of my ball joints was going, did I want them to fix it for the down low one time price of $758.99 while it was there?
“Hmmmmm, the steering’s been a little off but it’s tighter than a gnat’s ass…..” I thought and said, “Nah, I’ll do it myself.” Took it my regular shop and said “Check it to be sure.” They did and told me I had one tie rod end that might need replacing at my next safety inspection. That was 2 inspections ago and it’s still tight as a gnat’s ass.
amk
@Kay: his voters deserved that
?BillinGlendaleCA
@Immanentize: Republican live in fear. Fear of everything.
Democrats only fear, fear itself.

@MJS: they are way better than wilmer sarandon.

Seems like much longer than 5 weeks.

Muhammad Ali’s Philly born son and last wife detained after a domestic flight in the airport…because of their names and religion. She showed a picture of herself with Ali and was let go. Ali Jr didn’t have a picture and was detained for hours.
?BillinGlendaleCA
@Quinerly: I guess she should also carry a picture of me then.?
Immanentize
@?BillinGlendaleCA: that’s good.
OzarkHillbilly
@?BillinGlendaleCA: I worry about my wife too.

@OzarkHillbilly:
Years ago the Mrs. got rear-ended by a guy that didn’t notice a red light. We were driving an old Buick & there happened to be a Buick dealer a few blocks away so she decided to have it towed there. They did the body work & I asked that they check the engine & transmission out to make sure they were OK. They came back that everything was fine except I really needed rings & valves ~$800 (this was 40 years ago). We didn’t have that kind of money so I said no & we picked it up. It was running really badly so I finally broke down & took it to a local guy I had heard good things about. I explained what was going on & asked him to pull a head and see if it had to be new valves or if the old ones could be saved. I sweated all day worried about how we were going to pay for either way. Late in the day I was getting miffed because he had not called so I called him. “Oh, no, you don’t need anything! Two spark plug wires were swapped, we put ’em back where they belong and it runs fine now.”

Much as might agree, who da holy hell is Jim Ludes and why should his tweets be particularly highlighted?
Context, baby, context.

Dr. James Ludes short bio

Seven years ago, I took my then-seven year old Sube station wagon to the local dealership for the timing belt/water pump service (it was nearing eighty-thousand miles). The maintenance department manager took me aside and told me very solemnly that I had very bad piston slap on the 2.5 liter H4 and I needed a short-block.
I changed the oil religiously every 2500 miles! What fresh hell was this?!
He opened the hood and proceded to mime the ‘piston slap’ at me saying ‘tick-tick-tick’
As I said, seven damn years ago.
That engine was opened for the head gasket repair in ’13, and the heads were clean as a whistle – like from the factory – and now the car has 126,000 miles and is running strong, aside from a snapped moonroof cable and a cracked rear prism.
Dealerships.
NotMax
@OzarkHillbilly
Back in the dim past, bought new from the dealer a ’71 Mercury Capri (wonderful, fun car, and the buying is a separate story unto itself). Anyhoo, come winter noticed the heater was blowing to beat the band, only without any heat. Dealer started in about all kinds of charges, etc. As it happened, was traveling to the far boonies of NE Pennsylvania and there was a Mercury dealer not too far from where I was staying. Took it in, explained the problem and lo and behold was told, “Pretty sure we got a factory bulletin about that.” Five minutes later was informed that it would be repaired immediately, at no charge.
Since then recommend people frequent dealerships off the beaten path, where they have the time to pay attention to such things.
Lost that car in a head-on with a drunk only a couple of years afterward. More’s the pity.
nycmt
@NotMax: far boonies of NE PA – Poconos? Wallenpaupack? (I’m from the other side of the Delaware inn Sullivan County.)
Another Scott
@Iowa Old Lady: Yup. Most people don’t realize that we’ve actually got several “brains” in our skull, and they work on different things. Once our “lizard brain” gets turned on (by fear, perceived threats to survival, etc.), then our “thinking brain” doesn’t work as well, so we become susceptible to propaganda and worse. Logic and facts and sensible reasoning lose their power.
Hillary understood these things – it’s one reason why she tried to push “Love Trumps Hate”.
Republicans “know” this, also too, even if they don’t talk about it in these terms. That’s why they have pushed things like Constitutional Amendments against all the nasty things that will kill us in our beds like deficits and flag burning and reproductive rights, and gone on jihads against pot, pornography, school integration, etc., etc., for decades. They know logic and facts and science aren’t on their side – they can only win by lighting up the lizard brains of their voters.
On the subject of names, it occurred to me that maybe we should start calling Donnie by an old name – Oscar Zoroaster Phadrig Isaac Norman Henkle Emmannuel Ambroise Diggs (or OZPINHEAD). But he’s worse. OZ had some redeeming qualities even though he was a conman, a trickster, a bad magician, and a fraud.
Donnie doesn’t have any redeeming qualities.
Some say we should treat Donnie like an ordinary politician and not personalize opposition to him. I say we should attack him and his minions on all fronts. Yes, we need to watch his actual policies, but weakening him personally and making him look like a ridiculous, dangerous, brain damaged, loser makes him weaker politically as well. It’s all important.
[ fixed linky]
Cheers,
Scott.

@nycmt
Poconos, yes. Spitting distance to Wallenpaupack. Tafton, to be precise. Dealer was in Honesdale.
Pre-I84 days, when Route 6 was the main (only) route. Two lanes meandering through the mountains and valleys. Only alternative was to come across the Delaware at Dingman’s Ferry and then take 402 up north.
You anywhere near Pond Eddy by any chance? Used to be a bar there which had an awesome assortment of foreign beers on tap. And a pretty good German restaurant.

I’ve been lucky. I’ve always bought from dealerships that had a reputation for honesty, and they upheld it (“Oh, yeah, that funny noise you mentioned was a loose wamzam vibrating against the gibbleflob. While we were in there we tightened the wamzam. No charge.”)

Senator Mitch “Chickenshit” McConnell?
