Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Some judge needs to shut this circus down soon.

Second rate reporter says what?

Whoever he was, that guy was nuts.

A thin legal pretext to veneer over their personal religious and political desires

“That’s what the insurrection act is for!”

As long as McCarthy is Speaker, the House will never be in order.

Take hopelessness and turn it into resilience.

Teach a man to fish, and he’ll sit in a boat all day drinking beer.

Perhaps you mistook them for somebody who gives a damn.

Republicans seem to think life begins at the candlelight dinner the night before.

rich, arrogant assholes who equate luck with genius

Our job is not to persuade republicans but to defeat them.

Optimism opens the door to great things.

Speaking of republicans, is there a way for a political party to declare intellectual bankruptcy?

That’s my take and I am available for criticism at this time.

Republican obstruction dressed up as bipartisanship. Again.

Everyone is in a bubble, but some bubbles model reality far better than others!

Wow, I can’t imagine what it was like to comment in morse code.

Spilling the end game before they can coat it in frankl luntz-approved dogwhistles.

I’m sure you banged some questionable people yourself.

Prediction: the GOP will rethink its strategy of boycotting future committees.

Too often we hand the biggest microphones to the cynics and the critics who delight in declaring failure.

Republicans are the party of chaos and catastrophe.

The most dangerous place for a black man in America is in a white man’s imagination.

Monday at 8 PM, look back on #TheObamaYears and the 6 iconic speeches that defined his presidency: https://t.co/gIM3EDwMj4 pic.twitter.com/eYmIC0rezy

.

Apart from that, what’s on the agenda for the evening?

Tom Perez is off to a quick start, good for him…

DNC Chair @TomPerez will be @keithellison's guest to Donald Trump's Presidential Address tomorrow evening.

— Brett Morrow (@Morrow_Brett) February 27, 2017

Impressed by @TomPerez proposal to create voter empowerment office at DNC to fight voter suppression. Much needed https://t.co/tqPM9CULpP pic.twitter.com/Uth51Lb3OK

One more thing to blame Lord Smallgloves (and his fussy little hand tics) for:

2. The trollers are creating fake #Twitter accounts to spread their campaign, using hashtags such as #PowerHandPrivilege, #notokay & others.

— Mark Pitcavage (@egavactip) February 27, 2017

@TiGGyZTweetZ @GR8FL @jjmacnab Snopes did a piece on it. Mediaite, too, Probably others as well.

Here’s something you jackals will like. Today I learned that an animated film about the WWI dog Sgt. Stubby comes out next year, starring Gérard Depardieu and Helena Bonham Carter.

The number of times I have thought this, especially since Trump:

    KingofTorts Retweeted
    Charles Clymer‏ @cmclymer

It all comes down to this: if Obama were white, he’d be on Mt. Rushmore. If Trump were black, he’d be doing 20 in a federal penitentiary.
    7:04 PM · Feb 26, 2017

And before and since Trump, I’ve lost count of the number of times this bit of dialogue from Angels in America has run through my brain:

Belize: I hate America, Louis. I hate this country. Nothing but a bunch of big ideas and stories and people dying, and then people like you. The white cracker who wrote the national anthem knew what he was doing. He set the word ‘free’ to a note so high nobody can reach it. That was deliberate. Nothing on Earth sounds less like freedom to me. You come to room 1013 over at the hospital, Louis, I’ll show you America. Terminal, crazy and mean. I live in America, Louis. I don’t have to love it. You do that. Everybody’s gotta love somethin’.

I did have an annoying Monday though, so maybe I’m just in a bad mood.

@Hal: At the very least, a semi-literate idiot like Trump wouldn’t be anywhere close to the White House if he were anything but White. He’s very lucky to have been born into a wealthy household.

@Patricia Kayden: I think Trump being born rich has more to do with him being in the White House than anything else. If his grandfather hadn’t made a killing off of miners during the goldrush, and if his father hadn’t made even more money in real estate when it was easier to get into, Trump would not have owned an Atlantic City casino, he’d have been one of the guys sweeping the casino floor while cursing his bosses for not paying him more.

Trump strikes me as someone without any natural skills or talents so yeah to your comment although there is nothing wrong with making an honest living sweeping floors. His wealth has allowed him to be entitled and pretty much get whatever he wants, including the Presidency, even though he’s dangerously unqualified. Money talks.

@mai naem mobile: This is an updated article that I posted earlier.

As the defendants wept, a Douglas County judge on Monday sentenced two people to lengthy prison terms for their part in disrupting an African-American birthday party with Confederate flags, racial slurs and armed threats in 2015.

Superior Court Judge William McClain castigated the two, Kayla Rae Norton, 25, and Jose Ismael Torres, 26, for perpetrating what he called a hate crime.

He sentenced Torres to 20 years, with 13 to serve in prison; Norton was given 15 years, with six to serve. Upon their release, McClain ordered them to be permanently banished from Douglas County.

I’m hoping that the D attendees each have a staffer on fact check so that every lie Trump tells, you see 200+ official tweets calling him on his lie. Live during the SOTU. When Trump can’t answer until afterward.

Seriously. If we don’t want to call him a liar on the floor of Congress (ahem decorum ahem), at least hit him where it will leave a mark.
