How do you spell “Teapot Dome” in Cyrillic?
(But if there’s a posthumous Trump WH sex scandal, I’m not sure I wanna think about the parameters.)

We will win.

Does this scandal have a name yet? All the big scandals since Watergate have been something-gates. Russia-gate sounds stupid and this scandal seems much bigger than a -gate. All the cool scandals get their own name. Watergate. Teapot Dome. What’s this one going to be?
Edit: Iran-Contra wasn’t a -gate. So I guess it got its own name too.

@Yarrow:
It should have been!
Yeah, well, that’s what Tricksie Dicksie Nixie’s gang said, too. And they were better at it.
Ninedragonspot
@Yarrow: I nominate “Trumpshchina” (or, if you prefer a Russian spelling, “Trampshchina”). The “-shchina” suffix roughly corresponds to “-gate”, “affair”, or “business”.

I tend to agree that this scandal is so big that it’s going to rate its own name. Only dinky scandals get “-gate” attached to them.
I’d like to work “stolen election” into the name somewhere, but I’m not always good at being succinct.
Yarrow
@Ninedragonspot: Is that pronounced like “China”? Or should I say, “Jyyyyna”?
@Adam L Silverman: Sounds too derivative.

“Watergate” is a pithy name but it sorta obscures what the whole scandal was about. The whole break-in was just a tiny part of the whole thing. It’s like if we called the 2003 Iraq incursion the Yellowcake War.
There are a lot of people in this country who know there was a thing called “Watergate,” that it was bad, and that Richard Nixon had to resign because of it, but a lot of these people don’t really have a concrete idea of what Nixon did.
janeform
@efgoldman: I had a feeling you’d figure that one out:-).

@Yarrow:
The ending of every scandal in -gate is merely a sign and a symptom of our collapsing fourth estate. Too lazy to figure out a new name, too constrained by their peers to break the norm and do ‘joor-nulmalism’ thing or whatever it’s called.

@Yarrow: The practice of putting -gate at the end of the name of every scandal is due to William Safire.
He was Nixon’s speechwriter. He wanted to reduce the potency of Watergate.

Man, Fox News is disgusting…
I’m standing here in my hotel’s lobby waiting for the Starbucks to open and they have several news channels on the TV screens … The fox news one has a chryon that says things like “Dem double standard”…”coverage comparison: 7x more mainstream media coverage of sessions than Holder”…” photo shows Pelosi meeting with Russian ambassador”…”operation revenge: are Obama leftovers behind leaks”
All of this while showing clips from Paul Ryan and Rush Limbaugh calling it a “silent coup”

The catchy name won’t emerge until people finally know who did what and when and why. Everyone in Cheetolini’s orbit, including Republican Congressional leadership that’s been covering for his shouty, demented, cowardly ass, will likely be touched by this at some point. The only questions are how long it will take to come out and by what mechanisms. I’m sure cafepress is eagerly awaiting the bumpersticker opportunities.

The 2020-2030 era should have been about public infrastructure investment in high speed rail, universality of net access, and enhancing the health care outcome improvements of the ACA.
Instead, winning Democrats will be stuck with reestablishing NOAA, the EPA and the NSF, while arguing with Thiel and Mnuchin over their tax rates.
Lurking Canadian
@Jeffro: I just don’t get it. The entire conservative movement has decided to nail its colors to the mast of the Trump administration ? In defense of the principle that there’s nothing wrong with colluding with a foreign power to win an election? Seriously? Why not keep the policies and throw the man under the bus to protect the party? At this rate, the shit is going to splash on everybody but McMullin.
Jeffro
@Lurking Canadian: at this point it’s “in for a penny, in for a pound”. The time is long past where they could have disavowed Trump and possibly, maybe, not cracked the GOP into itty bitty pieces.
