That’s awesome. Ozzie the cat is never getting a bell. Never!

Well, my grandmother passed finally last night, peacefully at home. So that’s over. Here’s the picture I shared earlier, from 1952: https://imgur.com/a/uCNSp
Coincidentally, my parents are in town. We went to the Young Monet (1857-1873) exhibit at the Legion of Honor, an amazing exhibition and a beautiful day too. Pictures of paintings and some vistas here. Enjoy! https://imgur.com/a/JpX4s

@Eric S.: You were the one who had rotator redo recently, right? How is the shoulder?

I think the animals at Casa Cole are planning revenge on JC a la Home Alone. Maybe Lily pooping in a bucket and Thurston and Steve booby trapping the bucket above the door as JC enters the house. Then,JC won’t be shaving Steve’s butt anytime soon.

@Major Major Major Major: Deepest condolences Majorx4. At least she’s at rest now after such a tough time. Knowing the suffering was over was a great comfort to my sisters and I, and I hope it helps comfort you and your family too.

Spending the weekend in a cabin up in Blairsville, Georgia with Mr. Mingobat, Iggy the Wonder Schnauzer, and Muppet, now a/k/a the Pukey Little Puppy. Dramamine is overrated.

@Major Major Major Major: I won’t say I’m sorry because at some point it’s a relief. She looks so happy in her wedding dress! The Monet exhibit photos are great, I wish I could go.
My smart cat Shiloh learned in about two days that I would give him a treat when he used the scratching post instead of the rug. It got so I would hear furious scratching whenever I was anywhere within earshot of a post, which in my small house, is pretty much everywhere. I give them snacks at night now, usually at 7 p.m., and at precisely that time, he used the post that’s right behind my desk.

Condolences on your grandmother. My favorite aunt passed last weekend, and I’ve had enough soul to last me a decade.

@raven: OT: I think we’ve found the real culprit of the I85 fire:
dmsilev
@Adam L Silverman: Weren’t most of the Atlanta fires set by the retreating Conferates (to deny Sherman anything useful) rather than the Northerners? Or maybe I’m confusing it with some other Southern city taken by the Union, since there were quite a few…
dmsilev
@Major Major Major Major: So sorry to hear that. Best wishes to you, your parents, and the rest of your family.
Adam L Silverman
@dmsilev: I’m not 100% sure, but I’m thinking a combination of the two. My understanding is that Sherman did burn a good chunk, especially the railroad head/terminus. If I’m recalling correctly there was an attempt to burn anything usable before Sherman and his army got their. And then he burned whatever hadn’t been burned as part of his teach them a lesson through scorched earth strategy.

The huge flaw in that Pavlovian experiment is that each cat should be able to reach only one bell. The tabby has figured out — correctly, it’s the human who is too dumb to realize it — that when the tabby rings the other cat’s bell, the tabby should get the other cat’s kibble or treat. By continually ringing the white and black cat’s bell, the tabby can starve the other cat and emerge triumphant. Therefore, each cat should be able to reach only one bell.
Second conclusion — humans are cruel.
Adam L Silverman
@Glidwrith: You are quite welcome. If you’re looking for the actual oaths, because you need additional material to torment them with, you can find them here:

Mnemosyne
@TriassicSands:
Except that if you try that bullshit on a cat, they nope out of there. Unlike dogs, cats have no interest in playing a game that doesn’t directly and immediately benefit them.
NotMax
@Adam L. Silverman
Possible that memory is ill serving me, but recall that Hal Jordan originally spoke nothing and that the oath was suggested by his Eskimo mechanic pal with the unfortunate nickname.
All pre-retcons, of course.
CaseyL
Repeating from a semi-dead thread downstairs:
I just saw on FB, and The Daily Buzz, that George Takei is going to run for Nunes’ seat in Congress. He and his hubs bought a house in Visalia for that purpose.
Anyone here live in Nunes’ district? CA-22?
Yarrow
@CaseyL: Really? That’s hilarious and awesome. George Takei is a national treasure.
Adam L Silverman
@NotMax: He was Inuit. Tom Kalmaku. As far as I remember that was not the case. Alan Scott, the Golden Age Green Lantern, had long had an oath. Though, because at that time in the continuity his lantern wasn’t connected to the Guardians (later retconned to make a connection), he wrote it himself. The original Alan Scott oath:
“…and I shall shed my light over dark evil.
For the dark things cannot stand the light,
The light of the Green Lantern!”
Alan Scott’s oath was revised in the 1940s into the one Hal Jordan and the rest of the Corps would eventually use. Alan Scott first used it in Green Lantern #9 from 1943 written by Alfred Bester. Apparently the line in “brightest day and in the darkest night” is from a letter written by a major in the Union Army to his wife before the 1st Bull Run.
