In the wake of today’s unfortunate remarks by the White House Press Secretary, let alone the sad pictures of this year’s White House Passover seder (and I’ll leave the Easter Egg thing to the non-Jewish front pagers as a professional courtesy) I thought it would be appropriate to post the Keane College of New Jersey Holocaust Resource Center video testimony of Mrs. Rae Kushner. Mrs Kushner is, of course, Jared Kushner’s late grandmother whose family survived the Holocaust by fleeing into the forest and connecting with the Bielski Partisans. Given the day’s events and the ongoing debate in the US about what to do in regard to refugees from Syria and elsewhere, it no longer makes sense to save this for a better time.

    Hey, I’m throwing this out to the theater and movie buffs: Is The Blue Bird, Maurice Maeterlinck’s 1908 play, still a thing? Do companies still stage it?

    Spousal ThresherK brought home a DVD of the 1918 movie and it left me cold. There are great (and per me, disappointing) differences between the movie plot and what I’ve read about the play. The 1940 version, with Shirley Temple, and the 1976 version, were a lot like the 1918 movie.

    @NotMax: As for the Anne Frank Center’s statement, I had seen it. I understand why they made it, but as I indicated in John’s post earlier today about this I just think that Spicer doesn’t do well in this format. He may be an excellent director of communication or strategic communication advisor/director, but the White House Press briefing format is something he is terrible at. I think this would be the case regardless, but since we know, based on reporting after his first terrible briefing the weekend of the inauguration, that the President watches his performances and provides him feedback, that the micromanaging is also not helping. What happened today is sad and regrettable and embarrassing, but I doubt that Spicer is a Holocaust denier or anti-Semitic. His job just makes him sound that way.

    Washington (CNN)After a review of the same intelligence reports brought to light by House Intelligence Chairman Devin Nunes, both Republican and Democratic lawmakers and aides have so far found no evidence that Obama administration officials did anything unusual or illegal, multiple sources in both parties tell CNN.

    Their private assessment contradicts President Donald Trump’s allegations that former Obama national security adviser Susan Rice broke the law by requesting the “unmasking” of US individuals’ identities. Trump had claimed the matter was a “massive story.”
    However, over the last week, several members and staff of the House and Senate intelligence committees have reviewed intelligence reports related to those requests at NSA headquarters in Fort Meade, Maryland.
    One congressional intelligence source described the requests made by Rice as “normal and appropriate” for officials who serve in that role to the president.
    And another source said there’s “absolutely” no smoking gun in the reports, urging the White House to declassify them to make clear there was nothing alarming in the documents.

    The article didn’t give a lot of info on his death. Just said police responded to an outside call asking that they go check on Geils in his Groton, MA home. He was dead when they found him. I saw a couple of J Geils shows in the 1980’s. Big Peter Wolf (he’s Faye Dunaway’s ex) fan and have caught him once in the last 10 years. Puts on a great show…very appreciative of his audience. If you are a fan, check out his solo work. He’s put out some great stuff. Gets very little credit.

    Embattled Fox News host Bill O’Reilly announced tonight that he is taking a vacation. O’Reilly’s decision to go off the air in the midst of a sexual harassment scandal and advertiser boycott arguably has the appearance of a suspension, but O’Reilly worked to dispel that notion. He announced that he’d scheduled his trip “last fall” — well before the New York Times reported he paid $13 million to settle harassment claims. A Fox News spokesperson confirmed O’Reilly will return on April 24.

    But according to four network sources, there’s talk inside Fox News that tonight’s show could be his last. Lawyers for the law firm Paul, Weiss, hired last summer by 21st Century Fox to investigate Roger Ailes, are currently doing a “deep dive” investigation into O’Reilly’s behavior. They’re focused now on sexual harassment claims by O’Reilly guest Wendy Walsh after she reported her claims via the company’s anonymous hotline.

    Fox News co-president Bill Shine has been working hard to keep O’Reilly, sources said. But O’Reilly’s future is in the hands of the Murdochs. “It’s up to the family,” the senior Fox News staffer said. The Murdochs are presently divided over how to handle it. Two highly-placed Fox News sources say 21st Century Fox CEO James Murdoch would like O’Reilly to be permanently taken off the air, while his father Rupert and older brother Lachlan are more inclined to keep him. (A spokesperson for the Murdochs declined to comment.)

    Pretty sure that Wolf doesn’t have any kids. May be wrong. He’s pretty chatty on FB with his fans and has never mentioned kids. One marriage in the 1970’s that lasted 5 years and that was to Dunaway.

    @Adam L Silverman: If you’re referring to Sean Spicer, I’ve gone back and forth about whether he should be fired. On the one hand, I’d love to see another prominent person in that band of thieves leave publically. But now I believe that Spicer perfectly reflects Trump: untruthful, incompetent, in over his head, and out of control.
