Let's compare Trump to MLK, because nobody's gotten in trouble for tragically tone deaf historical analogies this week, right? pic.twitter.com/JOAgjKvwX0

Trumpeting the size of the bomb, rather than the results (if there were any), is basically the way the government narrated the Vietnam War.

@BCAppelbaum Remember Trump voters who voted for him cause he'd keep us out of foreign conflicts while HRC was the warmonger?

So, the exact date that America as leader of the free world ended was when Trump won the GOP nomination.
Now it is just left to wondering how far we sink.

Even the crappiest circus gives the clowns break time. This administration keeps ’em front and center ring 24/7 (24/6 for Jarvanka).

@Belafon: Please pass our sincerest condolences on to everyone over there.

Just a reminder to those few who may not know. Trump is bald face lying when he says he opposed the Iraq war, at least before the invasion. The miserable fraud started opposing the Iraq misadventure about a year in when the disaster of the occupation lost popularity.
But, maybe we should give him a break. When he was asked about the proposed Iraq invasion during the run-up, he allowed that he hadn’t given it much thought.
Mnemosyne
Fix’d. And, you gotta admit, that was probably the most successful of all the cons Donnie pulled during his campaign. He actually convinced people that Hillary was more likely than he was to start bombing people.

In case anyone cares, I just got back from Jeff Flake’s town hall and he was not receiving the tender love and support from his constituents he might have been expecting. Almost 1700 people refusing to accept milquetoast answers or his steadfast need to refuse to engage on Planned Parenthood beyond “I disagree with you.” This was in the heart of Mesa, AZ mind you, not exactly a hotbed of liberalism. Whether it leads to anything or not I don’t know, but it was good to see the tribe engaged and activated.
Adam L Silverman
@jl: I put your horse v gator videos up in the previous post’s comment thread.

@EmanG: I saw some of the video. Your sign was awesome!

Jeff Flake had a town hall tonight

@GregB: Just talking to my traditional Republican brother (socially liberal as long as it costs nothing and fiscally conservative) who didn’t vote for either Hillary or Trump. He didn’t like Hillary because she was a warmonger. I was like gimme a break, he has ties to the Russian mob and Russian oligarchs, long ties to what is left of the Mafia, he has been a con man his whole life with multiple bankruptcies and he was best friends with Jeff Sessions. How could this turn out well? He admitted it wouldn’t, at which point I lost it. None of this was secret. You knew what he was. Elections in the US are binary. If you don’t vote for one side you are casting half a vote for the other. He kind of sheepishly acknowledged my point, but it is too phucking late.

I’m debating a one-day train trip for myself as a bit of a writer’s retreat — LA to San Luis Obispo, which is about 4-1/2 hours each way.
Earlier today, Amtrak seemed to indicate that I could get a layover in SLO of about 2-1/2 hours before catching the train back to LA, but now that option isn’t showing on the website anymore, and everything that leaves later than 2 pm is a 2-hour bus ride to catch the train in Santa Barbara. Feh.

Just a mention that posting videos within the comments noticeably slows down page refresh time for some (most?) of us.
Just ran a stopwatch check. This page, 6 seconds. That page, 18 seconds.

Apparently there is a baby horse with the herd that the alligator had been eyeing as a potential lunch, which is why the alligator got a beatdown. FWIW.

@NotMax: I’ll update the dossier.

@Sab: Plus our sister’s husband is on a greencard, and all of my grandchildren and step grandchildren are African American, and he chose not to vote for us. Hard to be civil, but I try, but I always bitch a lot before I listen to him. Could write him off but he is my brother and he is a politician so he might have impact on issues I care about
Mnemosyne
@Mnemosyne:
Ah, Amtrak — apparently the ability to catch a train back from SLO rather than a bus depends on which station I’m departing from in LA. Choose the wrong one, and they only give me the option of a bus. And, of course, it’s the station that has a ton of free parking. Feh. ?

Another amazing thing about Trump — he never stops selling stuff — ever. In the midst of describing his discussions with Premier Xi and dropping the MOAB bomb, he had to describe how great the chocolate cake is at Mar a Lago. The comments I have heard/read about it thought he was purposelessly mixing in trivia while discussing important matters. But to Trump the sales talk never stops, he can’t help it, he is going to make a profit from this presidency if it kills us all.
LanceThruster
Hillary drooled at the bombing of Syria.
Sab
@Sab: But he is a phucking asshole in our lives.
efgoldman
@patrick II:
He has no control over what he’s saying – none. He really is a toddler. No filter, no mindfulness, no self-awareness, no sense of the appropriate or inappropriate.
If and when he has to speak about body bags coming back from wherever he’s sent troops to fight and die, he better have a fixed script that someone has written for him. Left to his own devices, he’ll be flailing worse than we have ever seen.
Sab
@EmanG: Wow! Hope it lasts,

rematching Veep as we approach the new season, and it’s amazing how it (almost, sort of) foreshadowed 2016.

How many people actually voted for Trump because they thought he’d keep us out of wars, though?

@Mnemosyne: whoa I’m in San Diego right now.. probably the closest we’ll ever be :-)
rawhide rawlins
Lets not forget the astounding level of ignorance. This guy is a rich playboy who knows nothing about anything except grabbing pussy and scamming businesses. Does not read. Never has. TV has warped our world to the point where this ridiculous charlaton could pull this off. TV=not good for the planet.
Cain
@Major Major Major Major:
It would have been pretty obvious just from his statement that he would bomb the shit out of anything. We’re talking about a guy who asked why he couldn’t use a nuke. We also have a guy who can barely read, and let’s the airforce deploy whatever the fuck they want without his say so.
Chet Murthy
@Major Major Major Major: Heh indeed. That’s the content of the gallup polls that show that back when Mr. was Prez, bombing Syria was double-plus ungood, and how that Tangerine Torquemada is in, it’s double-plus uber-excellent That and all the times TT promised that he’d kick ass and take names, “b/c we don’t win anymore, and we’re gonna start winning, so much winning, you’ll be tired of winning”.
I’m sure the Chinese leadership is torn between fright at the madness and what might happen if TT really loses it, and glee at their further ascent due to an American own goal.

@fuckwit: When you truly, really want to believe in something, reality is simply something to ignore.

Bellicose man acts with bellicosity. What a shock. Who saw that coming? Apparently not Maureen Dowd. But then this is the same person who lectured against legalized marijuana after chowing down an entire pot candy bar. Idiot.

Did anyone else see the last episode of Underground? Holy F……
Possibly the most overtly anti-Trump tv moment I have seen. And a tremendous Call to Arms for Liberals and especially White Liberals. DAAAAAMMMMMNNNNN. Seriously Emmy material. And so well done.
amk
At 20 mil or so, the ‘shock & awe bomb’ netted some 3 dozen terrists. Great job, us of a military might.
Major Major Major Major
@Chet Murthy: I liked the polls showing how republicans liked free trade until Trump didn’t. Total 180.
@amk: yeah, but now the remaining ones are shocked and awed, so… money well spent!
I should also point out that the bomb in question does nothing that a series of smaller, cheaper bombs delivered by smaller, cheaper airplanes can’t do.
amk
@Major Major Major Major: It’s all about the dick’s dick waving.
Sab
@fuckwit: He voted. Just not for the president, since he couldn’t stand either. Yes he is weak on understanding binary elections, only one party. If you don’t pick the one it loses. Part of being a post Dixiecratdrift voter. Republicans aren’t what they were in your youth .
Sab
@fuckwit: He won his last election so he is doing something right. We need to remember that.
Major Major Major Major
@amk: if it’s about Trump’s dick then the smaller bombs would definitely have been more appropriate.
Chet Murthy
@Sab: Uh, not trying to minimize your feelings, but …. given he’s an R and couldn’t bring himself to vote for Hillary, perhaps it’s … uh …. a silver lining that he didn’t vote? B/c maybe he’d have voted for Smallgloves?
Sab
@fuckwit: He won his last election so he is doing something right. We need to remember that.@Chet Murthy: Yeah but he won his last election and is now in northern CA local politics.
patrick II
@efgoldman:
He’ll try to sell Trump brand bodybags.
Sab
@Chet Murthy: Yeah, that’s a real possibility. Hard to get Rs to admit how awful small gloves is.

@Old Dan and Little Anne: I came home from that movie and immediately requested the book (A Long Way Home) at the library. There were a kajillian people on the hold list ahead of me, but I finally got it last week. The movie is pretty faithful to the book.

@Uncle Ebeneezer: How about a modest description of that scene for those of us who don’t even know WTF “Underground” is? Or is this just for the Kewl Kidz around here?

@Major Major Major Major: All the Strump voters I know are happy as hell when bombs fall. AND closet racists …. AND currently employed ….so much for “economic anxiety”.

@Major Major Major Major: It is said that this bomb was intended to collapse a system of tunnels that ISIS uses as hiding places. Not sure how well smaller bombs would have done that.

I knew a Trump was possible when I saw Herman Cain talk about how unimportant it would be to know the name of the President of “Ubeki-beki-beki-beki-stan-stan”, and how it didn’t make a dent in his credability among certain voters.
hovercraft
@Uncle Ebeneezer:
When she turned and spoke directly into the camera at the end, I actually stopped and rewound to make sure that I just saw what I thought I just saw. It was a brave and bold decision to have an entire episode of just Harriet Tubman telling her story, but it worked.

@Uncle Cosmo:
Harriet Tubman breaks out of Underground’s time and format in a singular episode
By Danette Chavez @bonmotvivant
Apr 12, 2017 8:36 PM
This is the part of her speech that she says directly to camera, the most powerful part of her “talk”, because it is so relevant to everything that’s happening today.
Uncle Ebeneezer
@hovercraft: We did that too!! I’ll probably watch that last scene countless times since I’m just that way about emotionally gripping scenes. Did you also notice the way the camera movement made the lighting on her face shift throughout her speech, giving her angelic, Mother Mary haloes? Incredible. Breaking the 4th wall is always a dangerous thing for a tv show, but this one absolutely stuck the landing, imo. It really took my breath away.
@Uncle Cosmo: It’s a WGN show about the Underground Railroad and last night’s episode featured Harriet Tubman telling her story. Here’s a preview. Fantastic series all around.
