Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

DeSantis transforming Florida into 1930s Germany with gators and theme parks.

This fight is for everything.

One lie, alone, tears the fabric of reality.

Make the republican party small enough to drown in a bathtub.

We still have time to mess this up!

I might just take the rest of the day off and do even more nothing than usual.

The next time the wall street journal editorial board speaks the truth will be the first.

The only way through is to slog through the muck one step at at time.

The real work of an opposition party is to oppose.

Good lord, these people are nuts.

Damn right I heard that as a threat.

Is it negotiation when the other party actually wants to shoot the hostage?

Not all heroes wear capes.

Thanks to your bullshit, we are now under siege.

Putin must be throwing ketchup at the walls.

The willow is too close to the house.

Their freedom requires your slavery.

Too often we confuse noise with substance. too often we confuse setbacks with defeat.

The current Supreme Court is a dangerous, rogue court.

This isn’t Democrats spending madly. This is government catching up.

All hail the time of the bunny!

The press swings at every pitch, we don’t have to.

White supremacy is terrorism.

If America since Jan 2025 hasn’t broken your heart, you haven’t loved her enough.

They aren’t as unhappy as they look. I’m about ready to head into the kitchen to start the roast. If you want, menu and recipes are here. Along with a bonus Bixby as a puppy picture I stumbled across in my photo files.

How is everyone finishing out their Sunday? Open thread.

Your Dabits are adorable, in spite of your reassurances, I wouldn’t turn my back on those Dabits until you’ve given them a well deserved extra treat as penance for your transgression. How could you!!

Question: Is Alex Pareene’s descent into electoral nihilism during the election cycle made worse by the fact that starting 2017 he’s reverted to his (generally at least B+-material) range?* Or should it count for something that he didn’t completely disappear down the rabbit hole?

*Since it was brought up in one of last week’s threads — no, his hatred of Cuomo was always constant in 2015-16.

I have to be careful to check for hairs in the food pics I put up, and for food in the hair shots. Gabe is a big help, there.

Baking biscotti, then bread, then if I’m ambitious putting the ham in the oven. Gearing up for a walk while the bread is in the oven. Transcribing some story starts and wondering why in hell I have a half-dozen starts and so few finishes. Scritching the pups (who would NOT sit still for bunny ears. Well, maybe Stella would. But definitely not Luna!)

Re-posting from prior thread, because I want to make sure it gets seen:

I need to ask the local (SF Bay Area) jackals for some (possible) help. I’m the caregiver for a dear friend with multiple medical issues. She’s recently been diagnosed with a brain tumor which is destroying her sight. She lives in assisted living (she’s in the East Bay, San Pablo) and has two cats. Geoffrey is diabetic and needs insulin shots twice a day. He’s a sweet, loving, mellow boy, a brown tabby, about 10 years old. He needs a new home. My friend is broken-hearted, but she can’t adequately care for him. His brother, Spooky, also needs a new home but has no particular medical needs, so re-homing him is not an emergency, but finding a new home (temporary or permanent) for Geoffrey definitely is. Can BJ help? Please, spread the word among your friends. I’m the contact person, and you can reach me at my email address — the front pagers can supply it to you. A foster home, while a permanent one is found, would be fine. THANK YOU.

    @Miss Bianca:

Idle question: do you ever go up to that farm to visit the two (former) office kitties? I’m sure they’re happy with things to chase and all that space.

Dogs never look happy when debased by their humans.

I tried a new recipe, something called Little French Fudge Cakes and am underwhelmed. Maybe they’ll age well.

I have a ham in the oven that I’ll put a maple glaze on, mashed potatoes and a kale salad ready for my dinner. Heard from the kids, one working today, the other on his first day off in several weeks. Was debating where to plant my sticks with roots now that it’s dried out a bit outside, but now I’m feeling lazy.
I love lazy days like this, especially after tough days at work like yesterday. This is my idea of an almost perfect holiday (perfect would be cooking for the family and friends).
Everyone enjoy the rest of your day!

@SiubhanDuinne: I was just there yesterday, in fact…saw Pancho, but not Lefty. I’ll have to post some photos to Alain – Lefty climbing on the paddock fence, playing with my horse Iron’s face, is just too precious…as well as her boxing my friend’s West Highland White terrier…

I just woke up from a lovely nap and now I’m going to throw a roast in the oven. Maybe I’ll roast some asparagus, definitely some small potatoes and carrots. After dinner the dogs and I will go on a nice walk.

Yesterday I prepared something for Spousal ThresherK. Her favorite high-class meal is prime rib, and I got a great deal on standing rib roast, so that was Saturday’s dinner.

We’re just eating slices of it until it’s finished, and tonight I’m using the drippings for a fresh Yorkshire pudding. (Yes, intentional pun to follow “Nathan’s dogs”.)

    @Hal:
I think she was on either FOX or some other right wing outlet recently, but I did see via Crooks and Liars that CIA Director Mike Pompeo, threw shade at her and so Mike and Ho felt the need to mock her for all that they are worth, which isn’t much.
