Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

The republican caucus is already covering themselves with something, and it’s not glory.

“Everybody’s entitled to be an idiot.”

Sadly, there is no cure for stupid.

We’ve had enough carrots to last a lifetime. break out the sticks.

When someone says they “love freedom”, rest assured they don’t mean yours.

But frankly mr. cole, I’ll be happier when you get back to telling us to go fuck ourselves.

A democracy can’t function when people can’t distinguish facts from lies.

I’ve spoken to my cat about this, but it doesn’t seem to do any good.

Why is it so hard for them to condemn hate?

Hot air and ill-informed banter

Meanwhile over at truth Social, the former president is busy confessing to crimes.

It’s the corruption, stupid.

Sitting here in limbo waiting for the dice to roll

Wow, I can’t imagine what it was like to comment in morse code.

Whatever happens next week, the fight doesn’t end.

Americans barely caring about Afghanistan is so last month.

That’s my take and I am available for criticism at this time.

I did not have telepathic declassification on my 2022 bingo card.

Within six months Twitter will be fully self-driving.

Too often we hand the biggest microphones to the cynics and the critics who delight in declaring failure.

Despite his magical powers, I don’t think Trump is thinking this through, to be honest.

We are aware of all internet traditions.

Their freedom requires your slavery.

Only Democrats have agency, apparently.

Time-lapse, bird’s-eye video shows thousands of protesters marching toward White House for action on climate change https://t.co/yoYEIbNWAO pic.twitter.com/jNpi7WceZi

— CNN (@CNN) April 29, 2017

I’m dutifully ignoring the Cheeto-In-Chief rally, though I saw a report there were actual skinheads in attendance.

The Climate March today, which I was only peripherally aware of, seems to have drawn quite a crowd. You can see some of the impact here.

Also, if you need a boost, I still highly recommend, Carbon Nation, a great little film on solutions to climate change from around the world.

What’s going on in your world tonight?

I hope I’m just a worrywart, but it concerns me that we seem to have two totally separate factions protesting Trump from the left. That does not seem to bode well for 2018.

No, we have Democrats and people who understand politics protesting the Shitgibbon, and the leftiers and wilmerbots protesting Democrats.

I’m watching Samantha Bee’s Not the White House Correspondents Dinner. It’s quite fun, especially the “historical” videos of her roasting Wilson, Reagan, etc. And that she’s honoring journalists, and still giving them shit.

Even though he’s allowed two, Fleury is doing what neither goalie in the early game could do. Especially in the first period.
Looks like Caps are another team to lose first two games at home. Weird playoff year.

Of course there’s no way y’all can see it to confirm the date, but wrote and tucked the following away on the computer as a .txt file dated Feb. 27:

William Henry Harrison’s first 100 days were more notable and more successful than the new occupant of 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue.

And Harrison was dead for 69½ of them.

I wish I liked hockey. But on our TV you can’t see the puck at all, so no point to the game, really.

Thunderstorms here veered north of us, mostly in Ohio, so far. We can always use a few hours of rain, but a chain of thunderstorms can be deadly in the steeper mountains.

Brussels sprouts and maple syrup are an idyllic match.

Like to parboil them (always score an X in the stem before boiling), then slice somewhat thinly lengthwise, coat with slightly diluted maple syrup and a touch of lemon juice, place on a baking sheet and sprinkle with a dusting of bread crumbs and roast ’em

J and her sister (visiting from Austin, TX) were at the DC march. They had a good time and said it was a great crowd.

I see that Donnie’s love affair with tyrannical monsters continues – he’s invited Duterte to Washington:

U.S. President Donald Trump invited Philippines President Rodrigo Duterte to the White House during a phone call on Saturday that also addressed concerns over North Korea, the White House said in a statement.

The White House gave no details of when the leaders would meet in Washington to discuss their alliance, but said Trump looked forward to visiting the Philippines in November as part of two summits with other Asian nations.

    (sigh)
