Barack and Michelle Obama will present plans for the presidential library Wednesday in Chicago https://t.co/QRA9reeqpl pic.twitter.com/FXu52Bo2gh
— DNAinfo Chicago (@DNAinfoCHI) May 1, 2017
Per the Chicago Tribune:
… A three-dimensional model of Obama Presidential Center will be shown during the midday event at the South Shore Cultural Center, the source said. The model will offer the first look at the complex in Jackson Park, which is viewed as a potential driver of economic revitalization on the South Side…
The foundation billed the gathering as a event with community leaders. The former president will host a roundtable discussion at the event to give an update on the center and hear directly from community members on their ideas for it, the foundation said.
Husband-and-wife architects Tod Williams and Billie Tsien of New York will also attend Wednesday’s event. The future Presidential Center is expected to open in Jackson Park in 2021 at a cost of at least $500 million.
“More than a building or a museum, the Obama Presidential Center will be a working center for civic engagement and a place to inspire people and communities to create change,” the foundation said in Monday’s announcement.
Tickets to Wednesday’s event are by invitation only, the foundation said.
Later Wednesday, Barack Obama is scheduled to appear at The Chicago Club, a source told the Tribune. The foundation divulged no details on that event…
What else is on the agenda for the day?

Good morning! I have a busy day making farmers market stuff for tomorrow on tap, and enjoying the holiday feeling of discovering stuff that’s been in boxes since I moved. Too wet and chilly for garden work today.
Also, for people who’ve considered shipping at Etsy stores like mine and MomSense but didn’t want to register on the site, Etsy now allows guest checkout, no registration required. Which is nice.

I love leaving this update on a thread topped by the awesome Obamas who probably aren’t dancing in that photo, but it looks like they are.
Got a little bit of sleep. My pain is well controlled at the moment, but I’m dizzy which is my main problem with opioids. Today we’ll look into a fentanyl patch and I’ll also reconsider Ativan, based on the recommendations of my dear fellow Juicers. It just occurred to me that my appearing calmer outside would likely be helpful to my sister and her family. My poor sister is juggling so much right now! Me, our 93 yo mother, my nephew with CF (he’s 29 but the personal touch for CPT is preferred,) and my niece who can’t help much because she has two more days of finals in her accelerated nursing program, and my brother-in-law who is very helpful but needs direction to remain so. Meanwhile, I have this great excuse for not pitching in!
Okay, so things have obviously smoothed out since earlier this morning, but I’m getting very sleepy again, so I hope to see you on this site again later today.

Not “fake” in the sense that they didn’t announce repealing Michelle Obama’s lunch initiative, fake in the sense that it doesn’t mean anything and won’t change anything.
If you want a good example of racism in this country, look at Michelle Obama versus Karen Kasich. The exact same focus on exercise and health in schools yet only Michelle Obama’s initiative was hugely offensive to white parents.

So are any BJers eclipse-chasing this August? I’ve never done it before, but on impulse I decided to this time. I’m “retiring” (taking a self-declared sabbatical followed by who know what?) so I have the freedom. There may never be an opportunity as good in my lifetime.
Looked at the map, decided Charleston SC had the right combination of being on the path, close to me, and having a decent chance of good airline coverage. I was expecting to find things already booked up but got decent rates on everything.
If there are BJers in that area, maybe a BJ eclipse or pre-eclipse Meetup?

Emanuel puts brakes on Rauner plan to sell Thompson Center
BREAKING 05/02/2017, 06:47pm
Fran Spielman
Mayor Rahm Emanuel said Tuesday he’s holding up Gov. Bruce Rauner’s plan to sell the Thompson Center because he’s not about to “stick Chicago taxpayers” with the $100 million tab to rebuild the busy CTA station there.
Rauner’s office fired back that Emanuel is using an inflated number in order to “extort the state taxpayers for more money than the property is worth.”
The mayor noted the Thompson Center station is “one of the busiest stations in the entire network of 140-plus L stations.” That begs the question: “If you sell it and it has to come down, who builds it and who takes the cost?”
“I’m not gonna stick that on Chicago taxpayers. The developer or the state has to do it,” the mayor said.
“I’m not gonna have a short-term gain [and a long-term loss] when you have one of the most important stations and the reason that property is so valuable [being demolished]. Yes, the state gets to book the money when they sell. But, who’s gonna build or rebuild that station? I’m responsible to make sure that tab is not on the Chicago taxpayers.”
The mayor pegged the cost of rebuilding the Clark and Lake Station that serves as a nexus for multiple CTA lines at $80 million to $120 million.

Pippin: What? Gandalf? See what?
Gandalf: White shores, and beyond, a far green country under a swift sunrise.
Pippin: Well, that isn’t so bad.
Gandalf: No. No, it isn’t.
