As regular readers will know, longtime commentor greennotGreen is now in hospice care. She has found a safe home for her birds, and for six of her eight little rescue dogs, but the last two are still looking for safe havens. Her sister has sent me these pics — they’re ‘west of Nashville’, but I’m sure transport could be arranged as necessary.
Pine: Born November 2006; spayed female. 5 lb Smooth Chihuahua.
Pine is a typical Chihuahua. She’s barky and slow to warm to new people, but she is adoring of people who take the time to get to know her. Once you’ve made friends with her, she is very cuddly. She is casual about housebreaking, but will potty outside if taken. She would be an excellent pet for those who are familiar with Chihuahuas.
Rocket: from Happy Tales; Born December 2010; neutered male. 8 lb Min pin mix.
Rocket is my problem child, whom I adore! He is the most entertaining and dearest of my dogs because he is full of antics and loves to play with toys, and also loves to lie right on or next to a friendly lap. He will go to the bathroom outside, but he also signs his name to everything inside. He has a shrill bark when excited, but he’s the most affectionate, cuddliest dog I’ve ever had. He doesn’t shed much, and is a very tidy little dog.

Where did the word ‘bleg’ come from and what crowd funder do I join to stop it?
MomSense
Will now share with my dog loving friends. Sadly my pup will not welcome another dog into the house. She has problems even when her best friend visits.

What cuties! I’m not in a position to adopt, but will contribute to re-homing expenses, including transport.
Elizabelle
Rocket’s ears are incredible. Beautiful dogs. Look forward to hearing they’ve found a good home soon, either together or separately.
Also appreciate gnG’s being very upfront about their quirks. Honesty is best for finding a forever home.
I wish I could take them. Know that sounds like cheap sentiment, but I do.
Patricia Kayden
Here’s hoping with all my heart that Pine and Rocket find a new home quickly. They look like adorable doggies. Also, sending positive thoughts greennotGreen’s way. She fits this blog so perfectly with her abundant love for animals.

@Steve:
It’s a perfectly cromulent mashup of “blog” and “beg,” and your focus seems to be entirely on nonessentials.
Elizabelle
Love the photo of them hanging out with mom in bed; protecting.
brendancalling
I live in Nashville. I’ll post on my FB page.
schrodingers_cat
@SiubhanDuinne: Do not feed the troll, especially on this thread.
SiubhanDuinne
@schrodingers_cat:
Didn’t realise he was a troll, but I’m done with him anyhow.
I’m not able to adopt the pups, but I’ll gladly contribute to transportation costs.
laura
You’ve got a lovely pile of pooches.
An abundance of love resides in your bed.
Rocket’s bat wing ears are a treat.
I’m hoping for good rehoming.
Say the word if there’s any need for funds associated with finding forever homes.

I’ve got a friend with a real old rescue Chihuahua (thanks to Les Nessman, I can always spell this) who *may* be interested in another. Thing is, the dog lives with two other rescue dogs who are pit bulls…sweet dogs all of them, though. All 3 of them battle to try to curl up on my chest, but the Chihuahua is the dominant one (ha!), so he is the usual winner….plus he isn’t 100 lbs.
Elizabelle
I’m thinking Rocket looks like Thurston’s bat-winged brother. I want.
And Pine is adorbs too. Keep us in the loop on how the rehoming goes, and if the pups end up living with a rescue group for a while. They will have good little lives, even while they had great lives with greennotGreen and their animal companions.
MazeDancer
Location matters not, as we know. But just in case some visitors might not be aware – prospective pup parents do not have to live near Nashville. Or even the South.
Anyone, any where who needs to love some sweet little doggies, please know group funding for transportation can happen. Plenty BJ examples of happiness attained via long distance prove same.
Scamp Dog
@Steve, @SiubhanDuinne: I don’t think we need to go to the effort of setting up a full crowd funding site; maybe we could just post something, a bleg, if I might coin a term…
Quinerly
Wish I could help (will through some scratch at transportation costs). All of this just breaks my heart. Can’t adopt a second dog as long as Poco is around. He calls any dog under 20 lbs “an appetizer.” Thankfully he has never par taken.
tobie
I wish I could adopt. My spouse alas doesn’t want dogs in the house.
greennotGreen, although we have met only on this blog and only recently at that, you have been a real light in these dark times, for which I am forever grateful. Seeing your courage and seeing the BJ community’s warm response has been uplifting.

@brendancalling: That’s a great idea. Rocket is such a cutie, and although it’s tempting, I just can’t at this time.
Here’s hoping that they find happy homes soon.
Mnemosyne
I’m another person who can’t take them but is willing to chip in for transportation costs to their new home.
John Cole
It’s horrifying to me that hospices can not allow their owners pets in with them.
JPL
@John Cole: You are absolutely correct that hospices should allow pets.
Green is fortunate enough to get hospice care at home, but it’s time to find loving homes for her pets.
Svensker
Can’t help but sending best wishes and big hugs for all involved. If we need crowd funding, I can help.
Dog Mom
@John Cole: @JPL: Some hospices/rehabs/nursing homes do allow pets. At least here in Western New York, they do.
Mnemosyne
@John Cole:
I understand why it’s a problem at hospice locations with multiple patients — there are potential hygiene and allergy issues for the other patients.
But home hospice is a thing that’s usually available if the family is willing/able to do it and works really, really well. My late brother was in home hospice and was able to have all of us around him up to the very end.

Rescue’s can be great dogs- my Saint Bernard is a double rescue (her special diet wasn’t something the first rescuer could afford); just spent $2k saving her from an infection (required a bit of surgery; three days later now and she is fully her old self again) but consider the cost well worth it.
Dog Mom
I too have a full house, but I wish the best for these pups.
GreenNotGreen – Be at peace knowing this group will do the best to find a good place for your sweet ones.

Best wishes on the dawgs!
We’ll kick in on expenses if needed, will be on the road next week, taking tablet, so won’t be writing those long comments, but will stay in touch. We’ll be +5 hours I think, although daylight saving shift may have me cornfused.
My dad had home hospice, I was there all the time. It was fall, so there was a ton of football, he would nap (morphine), I had a muted TV with some kind of football on it, or a book, while I held his hand. No dogs, though. Grandkids a little bit, they were pretty young to understand what was going on.
Best wishes for greennotGreen! too… so good she is at the home she built, with the views. And the dogs and birds to remember

@JPL:
I’m so glad. May those doggies find loving homes soon, so she can have her mind all the more at ease about her pups!
the Conster, la Citoyenne
I wish I could take those sweet little things but my landlord only lets me have my cat Woody, who would be horrified anyway.
toschek
I wish I could take in the Chi, but I’m all the way out in California so I’m sure that won’t work. Good luck finding homes for these dudes. Little guys are the best.
Mnemosyne
Also, too, I will freely admit that I don’t know much about dogs who have indoor peeing issues, but one of my friends swore by the Porch Potty that they bought for their small dog when he and his wife lived in an apartment.
RealityBites
I know several good dog rescue folks. I’m in Virginia. Do you want me to check in with them?
satby
I’m sharing with the rescue group here.
@toschek: we can get a dog to Cali, we got Walter to Minnesota from West Virginia. We already have pledged donations, so please think about it!
satby
@RealityBites: absolutely, all hands on deck!
debit
@satby: Indeed it can be done. I’m in for transport fees. Wish I could take one but the house is full
Greennotgreen, you’re in my thoughts.
Barbara
I might be able to take the one that is house trained, but not both. I have a min pin/dachsund mix already so am set up for little dogs. It can’t be this week and I will need to talk to my husband whose first question is going to be, “what’s BJ?”
Elizabelle
Woke up this morning just wanting Rocket.
Am pretty sure he and Pine will have great homes within a week, or a month, but if he or Pine is still in foster care at the end of July (doubtful, doubtful), they might be making a trek to Virginia.
Appealing little dogs. There will be homes for them. Anne Laurie: please keep us informed.
Love to greennotGreen today.
Tammy Vedros
I’ll take Pine, I am very familiar with Chi’s. I just lost one in Jan he was 11 years old. I’m in Louisiana, don’t really have the funds for transport but I’ll gladly take her. I have other Chi’s as well.
Tina Osullivan
I will take both to help you find good homes for both, so sorry you are having to give up your babies and you are sick will be praying for you all. Spartanburg, SC
The Moar You Know
@John Cole: That’s not hospice, that is hell.
Jackie Leonis
I am disabled so home all the time. I have a wonderful mixed breed dog who will not live much longer. She gets along well with cats, dogs, and small dogs. I have been looking for a small dog for awhile but prefer a mature dog, not a puppy. Pine seems like a perfect fit. I would love the chance to dote on her and give her a forever home. I don’t have funds to ship her but maybe something could be worked out. By the way I am a retired vet tech. I also get around well now.
Jane milles
I have been looking for a female chi to join our family. I currently have Milo a 9 yr old chi/min-pin I rescued. I WOULD LOVE TO WELCOME PINE into our family. I am a nurse and stay in my home with my client, so there is always someone home. Let me know if this is a fit

Wow – looks like many good homes available.
All the kind people volunteering, please email Anne Laurie (Link on front page). She usually connects people with the doggie person. In this case the sister of greennotGreen. Then, when it’s all worked out between them, we all send money to probably GreeneNotGreen’s sister.
Or some other method. But emailing Anne Laurie is where it usually starts. And if I have that wrong and Anne Laurie has already connected everyone, apologies. Just so excited for so many possible homes. Two are going to work out, they absolutely will.
