Okay, y’all, it’s time for me to feed the kitties and go to bed. There are plenty of other threads on which to vent and speculate about the day’s doings, so why not save this one for pleasanter thoughts.

Is that kitty upside down in some formation I am unaware of or is this a display of anatomy I am thankfully unfamiliar with?
Another Scott
Is that an invitation for a belly scritch? It looks like one.
‘night all. Sleep well. We need everyone back at the barricades tomorrow!
Cheers,
Scott.

Yikes! That doesn’t look comfortable

Our 9 month old ragdoll likes to wake up my wife by biting her face. I gave her a little water spray bottle to train him not to, but I’m hardly an expert on training cats.

@Omnes Omnibus: Liquid Cat. Same principle as Silly Putty, only alive and with purring.

So, I’m thinking it’s about time for the Trump Error to get its own Deep Throat. I won’t pretend to know who it’s gonna be, but I’ll bet dollars to donuts that the source calls him/herself Littlefinger.

My late companion Kilo would do this kind of sprawl under a 300 watt spotlight. I once measured him at 42 inches from front paw to tip of tail. World’s best kitty.

@Corner Stone:
Cats are natural contortionists. They can bend themselves into shapes that violate the laws of topology and the Pauli exclusion principle.
jl
@Corner Stone: Yeah, me neither. I enlarged the pic and got out the magnifying glass. I can’t figure out what the cat is doing.
Looks like Ms. Rofer, as well as Lady Cracker, encounter inscrutable critter situations.

The whole thing frightens me. I am going to go to bed.

Any term including the word relax in whole or in part has no decent business being in the same sentence with, much less adjacent to, the word exercise.

@Omnes Omnibus: It’s just lack of depth cues… I’d bet a photo from the left side of what we see in this frame would see how suitably stretched out the kitty is, not that its hips are somehow on top of his head.
Peaceful night to you and all!

@jl: Cat at ease at home with her domesticated human servant sprawls on back with left paw tucked into right underpaw pit. Also, cat cannot read, so unaware of the day’s news. Even if she could read, she’d be all: Fed? Check. Comfy bed? Check. I’m good. I’ll let my human know when this situation changes so that she can fix it. World=my oyster, and I am contributing to the greater good by doing whatever I am doing in the moment.

I just had to shut Charlotte in the bedroom because she decided to tackle poor Annie as she was getting out of the litterbox. No idea why the cats are all worked up tonight, unless they were watching the news before we got home.

That’s the way I lie in bed, too.

Wrapping up South Korean stuff – this time non-political – here’s something from 2012 that delves into the social and cultural background behind the lyrics and video scenes of (Oppa) Gangnam Style by entertainer Park Jae-sang, better known as Psy. I found it interesting, though (as always) YMMV.
If I recall correctly, Psy’s popularity in the U.S. took a bit hit when some anti-American stuff from him came to light at some point. Whatever; the video is still pretty damn entertaining.
cain
@sharl: when that song busted out in the charts, I was actually in Gangnam and was traveling to airport. That’s when I heard it for the first time. I can sort of understand why he makes fun of those people in that district. The girls all seem to dress alike and almost look like. But they shure were cute.

Just back from seeing Kedi. All the cat people should slink on over and catch this little movie about kitties in the big city (Istanbul). Duman (Smokey) stole my heart.*
*Rumors that I do not have one to the contrary notwithstanding.

Heath Mello sounds like the name of a character created by R. Crumb.

@Comrade Colette Collaboratrice: that might definitely hit the spot this weekend; thanks for the reminder!

@Mnemosyne: My kitties are edgy tonight, too. It took them a long time to settle down (under the covers; back out; under again; back out; meowing from the hallway; startling at the sound of a book being set down on the floor – usually, it’s under the covers, a minute of purring, and then snoozing until they hear the alarm in the morning).
I wonder if they’re picking up on my worry / stress? The magic of the bag of Temptations treats is what finally calmed them down. I think I need the people equivalent. Hummingbird Cake with butter pecan ice cream would definitely be a contender. Or maybe a hot fudge sundae.
Elizabelle
@Comrade Colette Collaboratrice: good movie. I loved Kedi.
Elizabelle
@Mel: Hummingbird Cake?
Mel
@Elizabelle: It’s ridiculously delicious: cake part contains coconut, crushed pineapple, finely chopped candied pecans, etc., and the frosting is a coconut cream cheese / buttercream concoction.
We do it as a 4 layer cake for my Dad’s birthday.
My grt. Grandma used to bake it on my birthday, so it has lots of nostalgic goodness as well as tasty goodness for me. Her line was, “It’s called Hummingbird Cake because it’s sweeter than nectar.”

@jl:
Head end of kitty lying prone; tail end of kitty supine; spinal twist in the middle impossible for non-felines to imitate.

More likely an earthquake since we haven’t had a good shaker in a while. I should probably put some sturdy shoes next to the bed tonight just in case …

@efgoldman: I saw a tweet saying that city has +10% dem edge over rethugs. So, this one is on lazy ass dems. Welcome to the dems world, bernie.
eta: otoh, it can be also argued that bs does not bring in new voters or even ‘enthuse’ dem voters.
Mel
@Anne Laurie: Nope, further east, but we got a deluge here today, and have had a wet, icky couple of months in general. My neighbor was working on his new compost bin (multiple ventilated compartments and lovely cedar woodwork- so nice!) and got caught in the unexpected downpour. Not fun.
Coracle and bailing bucket, ahoy!

@Mel:
I made hummingbird cupcakes for a bake-off one time and came in second — the judge felt they were just a little too sweet.
Kitty edginess could also have been because G and I both got home late, and he was stressed out because he realized immediately upon submitting a term paper that he’d forgotten to include a required section. He was able to add the section and resubmit it, but he was pretty pissed with himself.
Mel
@Mnemosyne: Hummingbird Cake is definitely not for the faint of heart! I’m with you – if it’s a special dessert, it should be DESSERT. Full-on, sweet and yummy!
Hope your kitties have settled in peacefully now. I really do think mine were picking up on some sort of subtle body language or vocal changes. Perceptive little things!
Mel
@Mnemosyne:
Hopefully no earthquake!
A friend of mine lived in Northridge during the quake in ’94. We were worried sick about her; her parents, my parents, and her friends couldn’t get through b/c of phone line damage. We were frantic. My phone finally rang, and it was my friend, frantic, bruised, and out-of-breath. but
thankfully okay otherwise. Sirens and chaotic noise in the background. She said, “I’m calling you from a phone booth. I have to be quick, it’s the only one working and lits of people’s phibes are out. Listen, I’m okay; the ceiling caved in, the apartmeny door was crudhed shut, stuff was collapsing, I couldn’t get to the cat carrier, so I grabbed the cat, put him in my pillowcase, and – there’s some people, staring at me, I better let them make their calls,”
She called later that night from a coworker’s house. It turned out that she had to climb out of her apartment window, onto a steep, cracked tile portico roof, and then shinny 12 feet down a drainpipe with kitty in tow in the pillowcase. She was so focused on getting her kitty and herself safely out of the crumbling building that she didn’t have time to think about anyyhing else. Hence the people staring, since she was still clad in her sleepwear, which apparently consisted of only a Minnie Mouse T-shirt and a pair of rainbow striped toe socks.

@Anne Laurie: I had read about the Psy video “analysis” somewhere when it first came out, but couldn’t remember where (I found it this time by Googling). It was probably your 2012 post where I first learned of it.
I steal from the best..
