Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Yeah, with this crowd one never knows.

The words do not have to be perfect.

I’m pretty sure there’s only one Jack Smith.

The next time the wall street journal editorial board speaks the truth will be the first.

Too often we hand the biggest microphones to the cynics and the critics who delight in declaring failure.

It’s easy to sit in safety and prescribe what other people should be doing.

They love authoritarianism, but only when they get to be the authoritarians.

Anyone who bans teaching American history has no right to shape America’s future.

But frankly mr. cole, I’ll be happier when you get back to telling us to go fuck ourselves.

Today’s GOP: why go just far enough when too far is right there?

A snarling mass of vitriolic jackals

A sufficient plurality of insane, greedy people can tank any democratic system ever devised, apparently.

fuckem (in honor of the late great efgoldman)

You can’t love your country only when you win.

Let there be snark.

“woke” is the new caravan.

Consistently wrong since 2002

I’ve spoken to my cat about this, but it doesn’t seem to do any good.

We cannot abandon the truth and remain a free nation.

We’ve had enough carrots to last a lifetime. break out the sticks.

Impressively dumb. Congratulations.

The republican caucus is already covering themselves with something, and it’s not glory.

“Everybody’s entitled to be an idiot.”

Accountability, motherfuckers.

Yeah, to be honest, the original Watergate was also pretty much a farce from the get-go (security guard finds door locks taped open), but back then we didn’t have forty-plus years of experience with the depths to which the “new” Southern-strategy-implementing GOP would sink…

(CNN) Susan Sarandon, a Bernie Sanders’ surrogate, says Donald Trump would be more likely to usher in “the revolution” than Hillary Clinton.

“Some people feel that Donald Trump will bring the revolution immediately, if he gets in”, said Sarandon.

OAKLAND — As Washington grapples with health care policy again, the head of the 185,000-member National Nurses United is turning her attention to a seemingly unlikely advocate for a single-payer system. “The one I’m counting on the most is Trump,” RoseAnn DeMoro said,

DeMoro, who serves as executive director of both the Oakland-based National Nurses United and the California Nurses Association, told POLITICO California on Thursday that she is “disgusted” with Democrats like House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi and believes that the president-elect may actually get action.

Sessions recused himself from any involvement in Russiagate. Firing the person in charge of the Russiagate investigation is an objective violation of that recusal.

The only reasonable reaction is to appoint an independent special counsel. I think this is the likely outcome.

I watch some of the competition shows like Project Runway and Chopped.

I watched Project Runway, Junior, with my niece.

One big difference is the kids in “Project Runway, Jr” would stop what they are doing and help out a competitor, if the competitor got stuck.

In the adult version of Project Runway, the competitors would never help out a competitor. Some would try to undermine others. The adults would not set someone else up to possibly win.

“Chopped, Jr”, especially with the under 13 kids, are very friendly. Sometimes the adults would’ve hogged the deep fryer or ice cream machine, to try and get an advantage. But the kids, even when competing, display good sportsmanship.

When does it change? When do we go from trying to be fair to others, as kids, to every man for himself as adults?

I haven’t watched “Project Runway” since the season that pissed me off (Gretchen won even though she didn’t deserve it) but the designers used to pitch in and help each other in a pinch. In fact, I remember during that very season that the self-taught Michael won the respect of art school graduate Mondo because Mondo realized that Michael was a whiz with the sewing machine and really knew his stuff. Has it changed?

Haven’t watched in awhile and I’ll be damned, if I can remeber any of the contestants names, but I just find the kids to be a lot more cooperative and supportive of each other than the adults.

It is not that all adults are back stabbing, but they do not seem to be rooting for each other and willing to help each other the way the kids do.

I really found the difference noticeable.

With regard to the tape on the door at the Watergate being so visible: A lawyer who was with the Justice Department, in Washington, at the time once told me that he and a colleague noticed that the door was taped that way. So they tried taping it so it covered the lock vertically. That was the obvious move by the burglars. This lawyer and his colleague found that when they taped it that way, the door would not close. If that’s true, and this man had no reason to lie to me about it, that would appear to explain why the door was taped that way.
