Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Consistently wrong since 2002

Republicans seem to think life begins at the candlelight dinner the night before.

Nancy smash is sick of your bullshit.

If you are still in the GOP, you are an extremist.

Seems like a complicated subject, have you tried yelling at it?

Fuck the extremist election deniers. What’s money for if not for keeping them out of office?

And now I have baud making fun of me. this day can’t get worse.

No one could have predicted…

Not all heroes wear capes.

You can’t attract Republican voters. You can only out organize them.

JFC, are there no editors left at that goddamn rag?

Whoever he was, that guy was nuts.

But frankly mr. cole, I’ll be happier when you get back to telling us to go fuck ourselves.

Perhaps you mistook them for somebody who gives a damn.

White supremacy is terrorism.

Speaking of republicans, is there a way for a political party to declare intellectual bankruptcy?

We still have time to mess this up!

Pessimism assures that nothing of any importance will change.

Happy indictment week to all who celebrate!

Let there be snark.

I like you, you’re my kind of trouble.

Is it irresponsible to speculate? It is irresponsible not to.

Let me eat cake. The rest of you could stand to lose some weight, frankly.

… pundit janitors mopping up after the GOP

1) Remember who the current President is and his level of qualification

2)

Ladies, if you doubt that you have what it takes to hold elected office, watch these men questioning Sally Yates. It should remove all fear.

If you’re thinking of running don’t disqualify yourself by giving into the imposter syndrome. Look at the case examples around you.

I am still experiencing a mild contact high from how she so thoroughly took Ted Cruz down.

That imbecile new Senator from Louisiana — John Kennedy, of all names — didn’t have any idea what date the Inauguration was (and always is). Basic Citizenship Test/5th Grade Civics class stuff.

It is such a satisfying contrast when Cruz goes one-on-one with a human being.

Was kennedy the one who asked “Have you ever leaked unclassified information?”

Trump’s mentors included P. T. Barnum and Roy Cohn.

    @germy:

Was kennedy the one who asked “Have you ever leaked unclassified information?”

Yes, about 3 times and after they were both already on record as stating they had not. I think he was also the guy that got flattened by Clapper when he answered, “Leaking non-classified information is not leaking.”

KENNEDY: Classified or unclassified? CLAPPER: Well, unclassified is not leaking.

Dumb as a sack of rocks is too generous for Sen. Kennedy. But what took it to a new level of stupid was his smarmy condescending attitude.

I love the way Cruz picks questions that have nothing to do with the hearing.

None of these guys suffer from imposter syndrome. They’re all supremely confident in their abilities. I wish they had more self-awareness; enough to cripple them.

I re-watched the segment where Yates read over the top of Cruz with the more recent statute because it was so beautiful. It’s not often a Senate hearing sends a thrill up your leg.

Cruz has been riding on an undeserved reputation as an accomplished debater and attorney. He is neither, as Sally Yates so ablely demonstrated yesterday.

I’m not an advocate for being condescending, but can you imagine how dumb a person would have to be to justify Senator Kennedy being condescending to that person?

Cruz really thought she’d wither under his “partisan” accusation. He’s that sure of himself.

And then he got up and walked out, signaling to his colleagues that this ruskie nonsense was beneath his consideration.

Boris and Natasha MUST have something on him.

@Mike in NC: Native Bridgeporter here.

To the best of my knowledge, Phineas T. never hustled marks for “investments” and then used it to pay off previous debts. I don’t know when the axiom “You can’t (con) an honest man”, but Barnum wasn’t a conman.

He was an honest spieler, an empresario, promoting some genuine (and some fake) wonders of the age. Trump’s administration, on the other hand, gives a bad name to “circus”.

Looking forward to 78-year old Bernie finger wag, shush, and shout over Sally Yates in 2020. Because I can imagine her being the kind to, like, explain shit, as opposed to pounding her chest and shouting “No Fracking!”

Also: anyone who decides to run for something, or who is supporting someone and has a connection to the candidate, if you and/or your candidate need any assistance with national security or state and local equivalent security issues (to include policing), defense, and/or foreign policy issues, as well as strategic communications, information counterfire, things like that, just reach out. There is a link to email me in the drop down on the right.

If you’re thinking of running don’t disqualify yourself by giving into the imposter syndrome. Look at the case examples around you.

The vast majority of people I know could and would do a better job than the current holder of the office. I can only think of about three or four that would be “just as bad” (they probably wouldn’t be) and none – nobody that would be worse.

Well, his father was an associate of Lee Harvey Oswald; and Oswald was probably a KGB asset and had definitely lived in the USSR. Just sayin’, as that is about as relevant as the loathsome git’s questioning yesterday.

To repeat what I wrote in an earlier thread, he really is the überbackpfeiffengesicht

David, speaking of running and like issues…

at our local Democratic Central Committee meeting yesterday, the idea was bruited that we should be sponsoring a “non-partisan” forum (as in, “if Democrat is anywhere near the name, people won’t come”) on what the ACA is, and what the AHCA threatens to change about it. Because I’d been sounding off on the issues informed by what i’ve gleaned from your posts, I was asked to find someone to chair this forum. Help! Is there another you somewhere in CO who wouldn’t mind travelling to the extreme sticks?

de-lurking just for satby: I am an unabashed Beto supporter & will be a volunteer soon enough. (I’m a grad student finishing my thesis)
Going off my memory of a local visit: He’s definitely liberal, supports single payer & universal healthcare, pro-choice/pro-contraception type of Catholic (think “Catholic doctrine is for Catholics”, supports public education, etc. Not taking money from PACs, or only from Dem. Party PACs – that part I don’t remember well. But lots of grassroots supports in my very red county (Houston metro area).

Amazing speaker, I think he can we and will be working for that, if not we will at least challenge the slimeball Cruz & make him spend lots of money. I like making Republicans work for their election almost as much as I like them losing; especially the Texas ones.
Also, he’s social media savvy, check out the political figure Facebook page or roll call for his road trip with Rep. Hurd (R – San Antonio-area).

Although… why WAS she fired? Did anyone ask that? Was it because she (correctly) determined that the Muslim ban was unconstitutional? Or was it because she was warning the Trump admin about Flynn?

This actually seems germane to the hearing. Was she fired because Trump was trying to cover up/suppress an investigation into contacts with Russian agents? Did that come up at all?

@satby: Very little chance, unfortunately. Has zero name recognition and I’m not sure his ground game plan is going to be powerful enough to make that up. He also reps El Paso area. That’s like saying he is from Mars if you’re talking to Austin, Houston, DFW or even middle sized cities east of San Antonio. The other problem with being from El Paso is that although it should provide a huge platform of voters among the Hispanic/Latino population it doesn’t. Because that voting group is almost impossible to get consistently to the polls. By design of state R’s and also ingrained mistrust of the system.

Cruz will have a ton of money, all he needs and he has people that know where to put it to most effect. Lots of people hate him on sight but “Movement Conservatives” will dance to the polls to vote for his most punchable of faces. O’Rourke is facing a serious uphill battle. I will contribute to his campaign and do what else I can but…

@Peale: Actually it’s pretty important why she was fired and both the probable reasons reflect badly on the Trump administration as in it makes them corrupt. CNN is actually trying to stick to this point and the GOP is trying to derail it off into inconsequentials. She was fired for refusing an unconstitutional ban (against a religion) or she was fired for truthfully revealing that the Trump administration had a Russian spy working for them. I think it could be both. Don’t get so used to the big media fucking up, that you take everything they do wrong. Sometimes they are right.
There are so many things that smell about this administration that any time News media concentrates on one of the aspects, they are neglecting something else important. This is going to be a problem until we get rid of them.
