Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

I’ve spoken to my cat about this, but it doesn’t seem to do any good.

American history and black history cannot be separated.

DeSantis transforming Florida into 1930s Germany with gators and theme parks.

Republicans are the party of chaos and catastrophe.

Not rolling over. fuck you, make me.

There is no right way to do the wrong thing.

75% of people clapping liked the show!

No Kings: Americans standing in the way of bad history saying “Oh, Fuck No!”

Our job is not to persuade republicans but to defeat them.

Insiders who complain to politico: please report to the white house office of shut the fuck up.

“But what about the lurkers?”

Compromise? There is no middle ground between a firefighter and an arsonist.

Museums are not America’s attic for its racist shit.

Red lights blinking on democracy’s dashboard

Oh FFS you might as well trust a 6-year-old with a flamethrower.

The revolution will be supervised.

Oppose, oppose, oppose. do not congratulate. this is not business as usual.

You are either for trump or for democracy. Pick one.

Russian mouthpiece, go fuck yourself.

… pundit janitors mopping up after the gop

“Just close your eyes and kiss the girl and go where the tilt-a-whirl takes you.” ~OzarkHillbilly

This isn’t Democrats spending madly. This is government catching up.

I’d hate to be the candidate who lost to this guy.

One way or another, he’s a liar.

Buddy Update: He’s Home!

BL emailed me and asked that I move her update via comment to the front page:

I just returned Buddy to his home. The owner had returned from his trip. They had to leave suddenly to attend a funeral in Detroit. He is elderly but clearly cares for Buddy, whose name is Buddy. They live on 4 acres and normally Buddy has the run of much of it, but there was some confusion when they had to leave suddenly.

Hopefully he does not leave Buddy in the care of the neighbor who lost track of Buddy.

I checked with YouCaring, but there is no method for refunding directly through YouCaring. However, YouCaring did provide me with a list of donors, amounts and email addresses. I will be sending an email to all who donated to Buddy asking your preference – I can make a donation to John’s animal charity or send you a check. Please check your emails for a gmail from b l a m b 1 0 1 0 and let me know your preference. If you want a refund, and I know there are those on BJ who are struggling, I am happy to send a check. If I havent heard from you within a week, then I will assume you are ok with donating your portion to John’s favorite animal rescue charity. Another alternative is forwarding the donation in honor of greennotGreen.

Also, I was in discussion with the Senior Dog Sanctuary of Maryland about taking Buddy when I heard from the neighbor. They had agreed to take Buddy in today, if I wasnt satisfied the person was Buddy’s owner. If you need a rescue for older dogs in the DC area, they are very nice and have a wonderful facility. They also were willing to mediate returning Buddy home if I wasnt comfortable doing it myself.

P.S. What is John’s favorite animal rescue charity?

So if you want a refund, you know what to do. And thanks again for everyone who helped out – from chipping in to offering to foster to offering to adopt.

This all sounds great. Pronoun problems left me confused about precisely who had Buddy/came home/now has Buddy again, but I’m just going to trust that it all turned out OK. :)

Happy for Buddy and his owner. And happy for my massive $25 donation to go to a deserving charity.

How did a rescue in Marion County, Tennessee, become the pet (ha!) charity of B-J? I’m sure there’s a good origin story, as the kidz say.

If possible, I would like my donation forwarded to the Senior pet rescue that would have taken Buddy. Senior dogs often take more vet care to become adoptable, and take longer to place, but make wonderful pets when given a second chance. Not that the BJ designated rescue isn’t also a great cause, but after Walter and Buddy, I want to throw my $20 to a senior dog group, please.

This is great news. I second satby @ #21. Since Buddy is a senior dog, it’s fitting that funds raised in his name would benefit other senior dogs.

@geg6: I saw that. That blows. 2017 isn’t looking to be a bad as 2016 was, but it’s taking its share of those who should be left among us.

In 1997, we got a brittany spaniel from a rescue group, a nine month old one the foster lady had named Princess. I don’t know how much any of you know about brittany spaniels, but Princess is a name that just won’t fit these dogs. So we gave her a new one. Our new one, Smedley Darlington Mingobat really lives up to his name.
