Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Red lights blinking on democracy’s dashboard

This really is a full service blog.

Second rate reporter says what?

Usually wrong but never in doubt

Thanks to your bullshit, we are now under siege.

Whoever he was, that guy was nuts.

That’s my take and I am available for criticism at this time.

I’d like to think you all would remain faithful to me if i ever tried to have some of you killed.

Republican obstruction dressed up as bipartisanship. Again.

An almost top 10,000 blog!

Their freedom requires your slavery.

Putting aside our relentless self-interest because the moral imperative is crystal clear.

Conservatism: there are some people the law protects but does not bind and others who the law binds but does not protect.

Prediction: the GOP will rethink its strategy of boycotting future committees.

Roe isn’t about choice, it’s about freedom.

I see no possible difficulties whatsoever with this fool-proof plan.

Consistently wrong since 2002

if you can’t see it, then you are useless in the fight to stop it.

Some judge needs to shut this circus down soon.

This fight is for everything.

Proof that we need a blogger ethics panel.

The cruelty is the point; the law be damned.

Too often we hand the biggest microphones to the cynics and the critics who delight in declaring failure.

Since when do we limit our critiques to things we could do better ourselves?

On the Road is a weekday feature spotlighting reader photo submissions.

From the exotic to the familiar, whether you’re traveling or in your own backyard, we would love to see the world through your eyes.

Submit Your Photos

Good Morning All,

This weekday feature is for Balloon Juicers who are on the road, travelling, etc. and wish to share notes, links, pictures, stories, etc. from their escapades. As the US mainland begins the end of the Earth day as we measure it, many of us rise to read about our friends and their transient locales.

So, please, speak up and share some of your adventures, observations, and sights as you explore, no matter where you are. By concentrating travel updates here, it’s easier for all to keep up-to-date on the adventures of our fellow Commentariat. And it makes finding some travel tips or ideas from 6 months ago so much easier to find…

Have at ’em, and have a safe day of travels!

Should you have any pictures (tasteful, relevant, etc….) you can email them to [email protected] or just use this nifty link to start an email: Start an Email to send a Picture to Post on Balloon Juice

    @?BillinGlendaleCA: LOL. Good morning.

    Alain: I want to see those cute jackals again. Would totally recommend erasing those MAGA losers from the oceanography post. Re-insert jackals. Or sharks. Or big tuna. As you wish.

    #save the oceanography post!

    I travel a good bit for my work as an event photographer. Got fed up with the airline dance so I bought an rv to have more control over my time. It’s worked out so well I wish I had done it years ago.

    Just returned from a nearly month-long trip from Florida to California and back. Spent a week in Lake Havasu working and then a friend met me in Vegas and we took the long way home… Hoover Dam, Sedona, Route 66, Roswell, The Alamo, Kemah, Gulfport, Navarre Beach, Seaside and more. It was a great time and gave me a new sense of the size and beauty of our country. I feel like I could move into that sucker tomorrow and never look back.

    @Elizabelle:

    Q: What do you say to a friend who’s never been to Vegas and never been in a helicopter?
    A: You ok with the doors off?

    (just the rear doors… she sat up front and I assumed my usual position in the back seat so I could shoot out both sides)

    Here’s a pic of DTLA and Griffith Observatory, I’m trying something different. I’m cropping the pic and process the distant part(in this case DTLA) and then using a local adjustment on the foreground to get that portion adjusted with the rest of the pic. I also added some extra blue to the sky.

    @Elizabelle:
    The Sedona shot was from a bridge, I felt like a night flight was a great way to see sin city…
    I think I may have scored a few points with that move. 8-))

    I feel very lucky to do what I do… they pay me to show up and give me the best seat in the house.

    Impressive pics! And there I was pointing my phone out the airplane window. Ha! …. And does anyone know about travelling in Egypt, maybe has been there recently? as the cherub child is heading that way this summer. Not sure if I should lend her my camera.

    If anyone needs more pictures, here’s my Flickr album from my trip to Scotland in 2003. Over 200 pictures; can you tell I have trouble editing?

    @jayboat: Hi jayboat, what type of RV do you have?

    @SFBayAreaGal:
    30ft Fleetwood Flair… the Tampa area has got to be the best place in the country to find a good used rv. It’s a 95 model and only had 23K miles on it. Kept in a barn for 18yrs and used sparingly by a sheep farmer in Ohio. The interior is brand new- stove and shower had never been used, even the microwave keypad didn’t have a scratch on it. More than enough room- I have it set up as a mobile studio with a 40″ vinyl cutter and a large format printer on board. Two people and one cat together for 15 days and zero space issues.

    Gotta do something about the magenta graphics, tho… 8-]]
