Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

When someone says they “love freedom”, rest assured they don’t mean yours.

Oppose, oppose, oppose. do not congratulate. this is not business as usual.

Sadly, media malpractice has become standard practice.

Everybody saw this coming.

Republicans: slavery is when you own me. freedom is when I own you.

Their boy Ron is an empty plastic cup that will never know pudding.

Let the trolls come, and then ignore them. that’s the worst thing you can do to a troll.

Since we are repeating ourselves, let me just say fuck that.

Republicans seem to think life begins at the candlelight dinner the night before.

Weird. Rome has an American Pope and America has a Russian President.

“Just close your eyes and kiss the girl and go where the tilt-a-whirl takes you.” ~OzarkHillbilly

This fight is for everything.

Let’s delete this post and never speak of this again.

if you can’t see it, then you are useless in the fight to stop it.

They love authoritarianism, but only when they get to be the authoritarians.

Let me eat cake. The rest of you could stand to lose some weight, frankly.

This blog will pay for itself.

Teach a man to fish, and he’ll sit in a boat all day drinking beer.

I desperately hope that, yet again, i am wrong.

Second rate reporter says what?

The unpunished coup was a training exercise.

Speaker Mike Johnson is a vile traitor to the House and the Constitution.

Marge, god is saying you’re stupid.

Prediction: the gop will rethink its strategy of boycotting future committees.

He’ll Just Have to Remain Elf-Employed

It ain’t Christmas, but this is a nice little gift to the nation:

On Wednesday evening, George T. Conway III — leading litigator, longtime partner at Wachtell Lipton, and husband of Kellyanne Conway, senior adviser to President Donald Trump — sent a letter to the White House withdrawing from consideration to lead the Civil Division of the Department of Justice. Conway, also a finalist for the post of U.S. Solicitor General, emerged as the presumptive pick for assistant attorney general of the Civil Division back in March.

Conway shared news of his withdrawal with friends and colleagues earlier this week.

He’s allegedly not taking the job to spend more time with his family, which is always bullshit, and especially the case considering he is married to Kellyanne Conway (apparently because Laura Ingraham wouldn’t marry him).

At any rate, Conway is one of the miserable fucking impeachment elves who basically played a major role in sending this country down the shitter. Read the whole thing, as they say.

This is a good thing.

Meh. President Bannonazi will find some other RWNJ ethically-challenged lawyer to take one job or the other, unless he decides to leave them unfilled.
This is a case of a rat starting to board a ship, figuring out it’s going to sink, and sensibly running away.

If there is an FSM out there hearing prayers, please hear my plea – have the Trump admin try and invoke executive privilege to attempt to stop Comey from testifying.

@Corner Stone: Maybe John will reuse the title to the post for next Thursday, if Comey is allowed to testify. Executive privilege is a stretch, unless the GOP decided that it is valid, and won’t allow Comey to testify.

    This Masquerade

The Republican-controlled House Intelligence Committee asked U.S. spy agencies late last year to reveal the names of U.S. individuals or organizations contained in classified intelligence on Russia’s meddling in the 2016 election, engaging in the same practice that President Trump has accused the Obama administration of abusing, current and former officials said.

The chairman of the committee, Rep. Devin Nunes (R-Calif.), has since cast the practice of “unmasking” U.S. individuals and organizations in classified reports as an abuse of surveillance powers by the outgoing Obama administration.

Wasn’t Conway the fellow who convinced the courts that one could depose a sitting President (Clinton in the Paula Jones case)? Might not be a precedent you’d want on your resume in the current White House.

@JPL: Don’t think he can invoke Exec. Privilege anyway since Comey will be testifying in part about conversations that the Orange Shitegibbon has already blabbed about already, the dumn f*ck so they’re no longer privileged.

Yup. All the way up until he won it in SCOTUS.
When his name was first floated as Solicitor General, people were wondering how he’d justify arguing both sides of the same, very public, issue.
They’ve fallen way off the radar, but there are multiple suits winding thru the courts on the emoluments clause and other issues.

@mainmata: It only matters what the GOP leadership thinks. Comey could go out and give a news conference though, if he wanted. The leadership could say that the President invoked executive privilege and we accept it. Is it valid, hell no, but what cost do they pay?

Jeff Sessions’ face looks a lot like Putins. He’s shorter and he’s got more hair but the face is remarkably similar. Also too, does anybody else look at Putin and think ruthless cruel thug? @Adam L Silverman:

With his name and Yale Law School degree, Conway looked on paper like a scion of old wealth; he was in fact the middle-class son of an electrical engineer from suburban Boston. Short, dark, slightly overweight, and painfully shy, he was also, at the age of thirty-three, unmarried and without a regular girlfriend at the time. He aspired to date tall blondes, preferably of the conservative persuasion. Laura Ingraham, the woman he was pursuing in 1997, epitomized that desire. The willowy Ingraham had become a budding celebrity early in 1995 when the New York Times Magazine profiled young Washington conservatives, featuring her on the cover in a fetching leopard print miniskirt. For Conway and other right-wing males of his generation, she was an intellectual pinup.

I’ll just say that someone who’s a partner at a major New York law firm claiming he’s giving up an opportunity for a government job to spend more time with his family is hilarious. Heck, being head of the Civil Division of the DoJ probably would give him *more* time with his family than his current job.
