On the Road is a weekday feature spotlighting reader photo submissions.
From the exotic to the familiar, whether you’re traveling or in your own backyard, we would love to see the world through your eyes.
Good Morning All,
This weekday feature is for Balloon Juicers who are on the road, travelling, etc. and wish to share notes, links, pictures, stories, etc. from their escapades. As the US mainland begins the end of the Earth day as we measure it, many of us rise to read about our friends and their transient locales.
So, please, speak up and share some of your adventures, observations, and sights as you explore, no matter where you are. By concentrating travel updates here, it’s easier for all to keep up-to-date on the adventures of our fellow Commentariat. And it makes finding some travel tips or ideas from 6 months ago so much easier to find…
Have at ’em, and have a safe day of travels!
Should you have any pictures (tasteful, relevant, etc….) you can email them to [email protected] or just use this nifty link to start an email: Start an Email to send a Picture to Post on Balloon Juice
A rainbow as seen looking out my front door in Colorado. We didn’t get much rain there – it was always a reason to celebrate, and seeing this rainbow was very special. A couple of years before this picture, we saw a herd of antelope playing on that hillside during a cold, foggy evening.
First up, from Bill, who only comments on Subaru-related matters:
From an animal park, or “zoo” in southern Maine. A garish, strutting
showboat sporting an orange comb-over. Reminds me of someone.
And one of an interesting sky, Ellsworth, ME. Just cell-phone pix, nothing
special.
Many thanks, do send more!
Next up, Tom N shares:
Where it was taken: Seogwipo-Si, Jeju-Do, South Korea
When: Thursday, June 8
Other notes or info about the picture: Looking back at Seogwipo town from Saeseom Island, with the Saeyeongyo Bridge in the foreground, and Mt Hallasan behind. Hallasan is a dormant volcano, is the highest point in South Korea at 1950 metres and is visible from virtually everywhere on the island.
Thank you for sharing – reminds me a bit of Sentosa Island in Singapore. Do send more!
And to wrap things up for today, a little inspiration from ET:
ET here,
These are pictures from my staycation. I took a day trip to Philly on the
train and did the usual. One picture is of Constitution Hall. The others are from the National Arboretum and the Kenilworth Aquatic
Gardens – I would recommend both if you haven been and if you are visiting
or if you live here and haven’t gone yet.The one with the columns is the Arboretum – those are the columns that
were put on the Capitol during the Lincoln inauguration and removed during Eisenhower. The other pics from the Aquatic Gardens don’t really do it justice because the water lillies and other aquatic flowers haven’t even
bloomed yet. That is spectacular.
I haven’t been to those gardens, but I used to be big into ponds, koi, and nice lilies. I know walking around Lily Pons, near Frederick, Maryland, I’ve seen an amazing assortment of birds and waterfowl, thriving with all those pads and the insects, fish, and other critters they foster. The only downside is the mosquitos that thrive in such still, protected water.
In the middle picture, those hyacinths are just waiting to burst into bloom, a gorgeous sight filled with happy bees and other pollinators. Although many consider them a pest, I use them and water lettuce as a natural method to remove excess nutrients from koi ponds. When things are going right, the surface is covered like in that middle picture, and I scoop out and toss a bunch into the garden, 20-50 a day at peak. They grow and spread so quickly once the heat of summer is fully on and the water is full of fish-created fertilizer.
Have a great day everyone, and when you see something neat, pretty, quiet, or inspirational, even if it’s just around the corner from home, take a picture and share a little story with us.

Thanks for all the pictures?

I remember when Pulau Sentosa (Serene Island) was known by the much less savoury name Pulau Belakang Mati (Dead-behind Island).

It’s kind of hard to get a good pic of Hallasan, it’s usually covered in clouds.

@Amir Khalid: I saw some old pictures of the island, pre-makeover. It’s much nicer now!

What is that pretty bird? He looks like he might be a pheasant of some sort.
OzarkHillbilly
Nice.

@OzarkHillbilly: How’s it going?

@OzarkHillbilly: Yay, you’re back!
Nice pictures everyone! I thought the columns one looked like a Mediterranean ruin, surprised it was here.

I like seeing sky pictures from all around the world. Same sky on the same little planet. ?

The Colorado rainbow picture is iconic. House, lawn, fence, pickup truck all over-arched w/ rainbow. House dead center in the photo just as it is in the lives of so many Americans. Good shot.
