When I refreshed my screen and saw this new post, it was showing the Barry Manilow vid, which I must say surprised me a little, that you Loved Everything About It. When I clicked on it, to remind myself just how great and lovable the Barry is, it changed to the Beastie/Sesame mashup. Whew!
…Ya’ll should already know I’m a Idris Elba-STAN…not just fan, but STAN!! Ya’ll know I likes to keep abreast of anything involving my fantasy husband Idris. Next month, BAE Idris’ new movie “The Dark Tower”, the film adaptation of the Stephen King novel, will open on August 4th. I guess, because of that and other recent news (BBC announcing a new season of Luther begins filming next year) BAE will be on the cover of the August Esquire!
…whenever Idris Elba is in the news in any big way. The discussion on Idris Elba playing James Bond begins anew, every time…
Um excuse me, but Live And Let Die was set in Harlem, NOLA and the Caribbean in the 70s…ya’ll gone tell me Roger Moore, tall, white Bond didn’t stand out..
Dr No was set in parts of Jamaica…folks really think Sean Connery wouldn’t stand out in Jamaica?
Octo(*& – India
Don’t even get me started on “The Man With Golden Gun” or “You Only Live Twice” set mostly in Asia…
So check it out if you feel so inclined…

@lamh36: Idris would be a great Bond. Have they picked the next Bond? Is Daniel Craig done with the franchise?
folks really think Sean Connery wouldn’t stand out in Jamaica?
He lives in the Bahamas where he probably also stands out.

@lamh36: Has Elba indicated any interest in the part? Clive Owen got mentioned and said he had no interest. If a black Bond is in the works (something I think would be just fine), I think Adrian Lester is the go to actor. Sorry.

Forgive me if this was posted on Balloon Juice earlier. I haven’t been able to go thru the threads. Anyway, it’s worth repeating, pointing and laughing.
Of course, the state dept staff currently consists entirely of Tillerson, a few janitors, and some tumbleweeds.
Somebody should have told president Bannonazi that the people who worked in the various now-empty offices, desks and chairs in the WH and various departments actually had fucking jobs to do!
[In my mind’s eye. I’m seeing the oval office, and president Orange Julius sitting in one of those really ugly chairs next to an end table with a phone on it, furiously dialing – yes, dialing – down a list of hotels.

@Omnes Omnibus: Nor to really get into this argument again, because at this point i don’t really care if Idris is Bond or not. Adrian Lester was mentioned by one of the writer as a choice over Elba after saying he though Elba was “too street”.
The point of the post (if u haven’t read it) that the argument that Bond couldn’t be Black cause he would “stand out”, which is the go to argument some folks like to use instead of just saying they think Bond should stay white, as written, which IMHO is a better, less controversial argument.
BTB, my personal options in Lester is that folks want a bland Bond in the vein of the pre-Craig Bond. Ya know the more suave over brawn type Bond that Craig was…so sure Lester would fit that bill. He’s a bland enough Black guy to not offend some white sensibilities.
Idris Elba on the other had has the combination of brawn, suaveness and commanding presence that is the essence of the James Bon super sexy spy mystique.
i can almost guarantee u Elba would bring in the ladies (of ALL ethnicities) and the guys to the Bond fold.
But again, i don’t really care if Idris is in a list or not just tired of the “he can’t be Black cause he’d stand out” argument
Excuse the typos i’m using my phone and not my laptop

Meh…I thought they did the play on the action movies mediocre (and I am a lifelong fan of Sesame St). Suspect it depends on better writing and direction since the “production values” were fine.
This failure is at the feet of the Deputy Assistant to the President/Director of Advance.
At that level of competence, I assumed the job was left unfilled and maybe Tangerine Torquemada either tried to do it himself or told Kushkie or one of the boys to do it.

And many people we know think our forty years next month is an extraordinarily long time.

I thought that Ron Perlman was going to be way too old to play Hellboy, but damn if he didn’t pull it off. You never know how an actor is going to come across in a particular role.
Also, too, I got home from a stressful and busy week at work, only to discover that not only had G drunk all of our rum AND all of our gin, he hadn’t bothered to replace it. So I had to go drinkless. Damn it.
(He drank it slowly over time and didn’t bother to buy more when he used the last of it, so it’s not like I came home to find him passed out surrounded by empties. That would be a very different type of comment.)
I hate when there’s just ONE more freakin’ song that needs to download from the album you just bought at Amazon, but the stupid thing keeps getting hung up for no reason. Argh.

Elba’s in his mid-forties, which is a bit older than other people, who started off playing Bond.
Figure a run as a modern James Bond would last 7-8 years, he’d be in his early fifties at the end of it.
I am not sure how well he’d be able to hold up.

Perlman had a lot more make-up / costume going on as Hellboy, to hide his age, than anyone will have as Bond.
Roger Moore started as Bond in his early forties and stayed till his mid-fifties. He looked too old for the part after awhile.
