Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Why did Dr. Oz lose? well, according to the exit polls, it’s because Fetterman won.

Jesus, Mary, & Joseph how is that election even close?

We are builders in a constant struggle with destroyers. let’s win this.

Black Jesus loves a paper trail.

fuckem (in honor of the late great efgoldman)

A Senator Walker would be an insult to the state and the nation.

If senate republicans had any shame, they’d die of it.

Teach a man to fish, and he’ll sit in a boat all day drinking beer.

Since when do we limit our critiques to things we could do better ourselves?

In my day, never was longer.

Second rate reporter says what?

I was promised a recession.

The words do not have to be perfect.

An almost top 10,000 blog!

Speaking of republicans, is there a way for a political party to declare intellectual bankruptcy?

Damn right I heard that as a threat.

Why is it so hard for them to condemn hate?

Roe isn’t about choice, it’s about freedom.

Fuck these fucking interesting times.

They fucked up the fucking up of the fuckup!

Within six months Twitter will be fully self-driving.

“But what about the lurkers?”

Perhaps you mistook them for somebody who gives a damn.

You cannot shame the shameless.

Telling that pic of Ivanka at G-20 table was posted by Russian staff. Russians knew would: 1. be deemed controversial; 2. get us going in US

— Ana Navarro (@ananavarro) July 8, 2017

This is my 5th or 6th #G20 I’ve covered: Seen ministers sub in for leaders; never seen a family member/advisor/non-cabinet sub in.

— David Akin (@davidakin) July 8, 2017

The Washington Post:

… The first daughter was spotted slipping into Trump’s seat at a working session on “Partnership with Africa, Migration and Health,” putting her shoulder to shoulder with British Prime Minister Theresa May. Russian President Vladimir Putin was sitting one seat down.

Trump’s presence at the high-level table was somewhat unusual, given that government ministers or senior officials are typically the ones called to stand in for heads of state at such sessions. But she is both the president’s daughter and an unpaid “assistant to the president” who focuses on issues of women’s empowerment and workplace development, and she maintains broad influence in the administration…

It isn’t the first time Ivanka Trump has participated in high-level meetings at the summit. On Thursday night, she and her husband, Jared Kushner, another Trump adviser, joined the president at a bilateral meeting with German Chancellor Angela Merkel. Kushner also participated in Trump’s bilateral meeting with Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto on Friday.

Asked about Ivanka Trump’s presence at the table on Saturday, Merkel did not weigh in on whether it was appropriate, but she said that the decisions about who sits at the table should be left to the American delegation…

and if I'm seeming particularly left it might be cuz an unelected heiress to a money laundering hotel chain represented a "democracy" today.

— zedediah springfield (@ZeddRebel) July 8, 2017

This a totally normal thing that regular countries do, like Saudi Arabia or Westeros https://t.co/rXwr4sGCQa

Having Princess Ivanka represent US at G20 table a slap in face to other G20 leaders, other top admin officials, American people. Grotesque.

— David Rothkopf (@djrothkopf) July 8, 2017

President Trump announced on Saturday that the U.S. was pledging $50 million to Ivanka’s entrepreneurship fund, however. He also, while praising his daughter’s efforts on the program, commented that, “If she weren’t my daughter it would be so much easier for her. That might be the only bad thing she has going, if you want to know the truth.”

I think we’ve reached the point most rabid conservatives want us to be at.
The “I just can’t any more,” stage.
This is just so ridiculous on it’s face and there really isn’t any way for the majority to do jack shit about it. We have no mechanism to do anything other than wait for the legal system to wind it’s way along, slowly and hopefully forward. The drumpfs are the people that flat earthers would want to rule. People with no touch to the reality that we live in, with no idea that the world could and should be better. Only the idea that they should be richer.

Seriously, who’s the chief of staff running this clownshow? Basic scheduling work is not supposed to be beyond the capacity of the White House staff.

And where was Trump while this was happening? His afternoon nap? A round of golf?

    Presidenting is so hard

@ThresherK: That’s the one episode I’m pretty sure I’d skip if it came to watching “Mad Men” again. That one gave me nightmares. Altho’ I almost gave up after the first episode, to be honest – I couldn’t watch “The Apartment”, which everyone I know says is so great, because of the rank sexism of the premise, and the first episode really reminded me of that movie. I hung in there, tho’, and ended up really liking the show. Still haven’t finished all the seasons, tho’…I think I got thru’ season 5 or 6 before my attention turned to other things.

So I’m gonna step up my calls to Portman Monday. I’m sure his staff are very excited about that, to hear from me. Someone told me he will be one of three it will come down to- I haven’t counted – I have no idea if this is true.

I use the names of places rather than anecdotes about people- I say the name of the hospital, the nursing home(s), the schools. I feel like that is better than “little Johnny has a preexisting condition” because facility names imply a big group of people, which it should, because it is.

    I feel lucky :)

One moment the WH is explaining that Ivanka sat down because Trump had to step away for a moment. Then — a happy confluence of architected moments! — we hear Ivanka’s prepared propaganda about her successful merger of the World Bank with her never-before-now ideas about women and the economy. She deeply understands and explains this breakthrough.

And now — @germy: says the (“oppressively taxed” -DJTJr) US people are giving her $50 mil to set up the labor force for Ivanka Spa’s Curated Moments with Teas from trademarked Chinese tea farms or something.

I lived in NYC during the “Mad Men” years and was peripherally part of that milieu (didn’t work for an ad agency, but did work for a then-huge international corporation in a division that did a lot of retail advertising). But I still haven’t watched the last two seasons, and at this point can barely remember the first several. Own the entire series on DVD and will have me a nice binge, maybe next winter when we’re snowed in or something.

    @SiubhanDuinne:

A high school friend’s mom worked for my dad as a copywriter. There was a divorce, she lost the children, and she moved to NYC. She met a guy and they opened a small ad shop that, considering their life style, was very successful. When I moved there, I visited them often. Their picture window was the perfect frame for Macy’s fireworks on July 4th. They both drank copious amounts of scotch and told mountains of industry stories. I wish she’d lived to see Mad Men; she was Joan without the babydoll voice.

Netflixing Mad Men. Avoided it when it came out. Was worried about how the women were treated back then.

try being Non-white and watching Mad Men.

Seasons 1-3 were some of the best television ever.
    4 was eh
    5 was wretched
6 began the climb out of the hole of 5.
If they had ended 7 halfway through the season, I would have been very content.
As it is…loved the last 3 of the last half. The ending was wonderful.

But I need to see how he got there.

    @rikyrah:

I don’t understand why you liked him either. A toadying yes-man and very deceitful with his wife.

    @HeleninEire:

You do need to see the entirety of Don’s back story to understand why he is the way he is. I thought that was the best part of the series, the way his past unfolded.
