Conversation among most ardent Trump partisans on TV has shifted to "collision: not actually illegal." https://t.co/Rzzzr7q7Zw

we've come a long way from wanting to imprison Hillary Clinton over her email server https://t.co/WyBOhixJcl

It’s gone beyond the usual IOKIYAR clannishness to pure cultism, at this point. But some of the slightly more experienced partisans are beginning to look for an inconspicuous exit…

So all that prosecutorial experience didn’t quite go to waste, eh, Mr. Christie?

Not a perfect analogy, but Trump backers would be outraged if Hillary sought Trump tax info from Chinese spies https://t.co/Pi3PNffB4n

The Trump Crime Cartel proper will hang on to the bitter end, of course…
.@PressSec says “there was nothing as far as we know that would lead anyone to believe” that Don Jr. meeting wasn’t about adoption policy.
— Peter Baker (@peterbakernyt) July 17, 2017
It's really kind of amazing that Spicer would get out there and lie about this even after Trump openly admitted the opposite.
— Charles Johnson (@Green_Footballs) July 17, 2017
After all, isn’t politics just like any other… family business?
Most politicians would have gone to a meeting like the one Don jr attended in order to get info on an opponent. That's politics!

First, no evidence turned up of any thing to investigate.
Second, any evidence turned up shows nothing to investigate.
It’s some kind of variation on the ‘no true Scotsman; defense.
The ‘no true Trump man’ defense?

the more I think on this the more it begins to down on me just how horrifying this is for DJT…
daddy paved his way by being a successful racist slumlord… so DJT had everything he could want/need
so he partied/cavorted his way through the 70s and 80s, making a name for himself by being brash and direct…
Life was easy, the money and the power simplified things, you wanted a woman, you wooed her and got her, treated them like property, invested in some, offloaded others, always onto the next deal, simplifying things as he went. Money bought off problems, lawyers submersed even more…
Donnie wants, Donnie gets… I imagine it fed directly into his Id and Ego both…..
Now, doing the job that the black guy had, should be easy… but, money can’t buy everything, power comes in many guises, and isn’t always easy to wield, the people he’s surrounded himself with don’t know what they’re doing, they’re along for the ride, the kicks or the kickbacks…
I’d almost feel sad if he wasn’t such a sad excuse of a person.

So is Reek turning on Ramsay?

@Dr. Acula: Why would he? He keeps Reek fed and housed.

Richard Nixon: It’s not illegal if the president does it.
Donald Trump: It’s not illegal unless Hillary Clinton does it.

@Brachiator: At some point he’ll have to work in that it’s a private family affair and besides, Jesus has forgiven him, everything different than that being, of course, Fake News.

Dear Miss Manners,
When I’m at the gym, there are some people who try to engage me in conversation while I’m working out. Is it okay to beat these idiots unconscious with a kettlebell? Assume for the sake of argument that I need to work my arms and shoulders anyway.
Sincerely,
Hot and Bothered

Well, trying to calm down here after having the fire department run through our back yard to put out a fire in the pinyon-juniper scrub in the open space behind our house. Waking from a hard sleep to your husband yelling “there’s a fire in the backyard!” Means I’m up for awhile…..

Of course the shitgibbon and his mouthpiece are too stupid to realize that a lot of people now understand that “adoption policy” really means “lifting sanctions’.

@Calouste:
And to the people who don’t know that, ‘adoption policy’ sounds like the dumbest cover story ever invented.

@Frankensteinbeck:
Fox News won’t explain it to the base.
In fact, I haven’t seen where the other big media has explained it, but I don’t watch it very much, so I probably missed it.

I was reading the Cleek’s Law thread from yesterday morning and saw toward the end TenguPhule’s correct observation of Obama as a counter-point to the idea of the law breaking down if Democrats adopt Republican policies. Good examples of this include opposition to market-based expansions of health coverage and cap-and-trade policies that they had themselves conceived of. And don’t even get me started on Libya.
The trouble here is that the “opposite” they want doesn’t pertain to policy, but philosophy. At their core, these faux conservatives don’t want to help people who didn’t start with everything already on a silver platter waiting for them. Liberals do. It used to be that Republicans would offer alternative solutions to help people and bemoan the overreach of the Democrats. But as soon as a critical mass of Democrats bought in to the workability of these policies, the Republican mask slipped. It’s like my Dad (who votes for these fucks) told me, “they never wanted any of that to begin with.”
So, yes, they want the opposite, updated daily. But politics and policy exist on a spectrum. And the “opposite” they want will always be whichever opposite best afflicts the afflicted and comforts the comfortable.

It’s rather good of the Russians to wait until now to start loudly demanding the quid pro quo, in the form of renewed access to their espionage facilities,

@sm*t cl*de: But of course. To have done so during the election would have shined a spotlight on their subterfuge and possibly undermined it.

@Kraux Pas:
Well, there was a brief moment in there where the Dems bought into conservative market-based solutions to acid rain and the ozone hole, and enough R’s went along so that it happened.
But that moment came and went in the blink of an eye. And like your father, my dad (who had been a lifelong R up into his 80s) realized the same thing in his last years: that the GOP didn’t want to solve the problems of the less fortunate through market-based means (which was what he’d bought into); they didn’t want to solve them at all. He voted Dem in his last couple of elections, and while I miss him, I’m glad he didn’t get to see 2016.

I wonder how fair it is to be hopeful about things like this – i.e. private lawsuits proceeding on merits against Il Douche and his various nefarious minions. This is from Ben Wittes on a potentially deadly suit (in terms of discovery) over Il Douche’s Campaign releasing private individuals’ information.
I think if this would be one way to get at the information That Man is desperately trying to keep covered up, as long as the suits can proceed at least to the discovery phase, that may also help speed along Mueller’s task.
