This is just an amazing quote. GOP controls all branches of government. How Cornyn describes it: https://t.co/6Ty9Qe6MJa pic.twitter.com/ejdab5z1cd

— Mazel Tov Cocktail (@AdamSerwer) July 19, 2017

Further proof — as if we needed it — that the entire Republican party has abandoned all thought of governing in favor of merely obstructing.

What’s on the agenda as we start the much-needed weekend?

"That's a luxury we don't have" –@JohnCornyn when asked "don't some people want to know the plan before they vote" on health care.

CORNYN says it's a "luxury we don't have" to know what the bill is before the motion to proceed

Anyone who votes yes on a motion to proceed – without knowing what’s in a bill – is just a whore who can be bought has been bought with money or power or threats and has absolutely no business being in an elected official in this government.

My new suggestion from previous thread for talking points for people who have GOP ‘moderate’ ‘Senators’:

” I think a good opener would be ‘Listen, you idiot shitforbrains, are you planning to vote on some shit you don’t even know what it is? My goddamned dog can be trained to do that. I want to see your ass on the local news denouncing this whole corrupt asinine bullshit, or I’m going to see to it that your sorry ass is out of your cushy gummint job after the next election. ”

Good to be polite at the opening. Then you can move to ‘direct’ and if he or she won’t listen, then dial it up to ‘rude’. “

Cornyn is a stupid and dishonest abject hack.

Several health care analysts, including BJ’s David Anderson said that bipartisan bill that Collins initiated earlier this year was a good start.
So, they have no choice, IF they want to jam through a strictly partisan, incompetent, dishonest, bill

That might be another issue to bring up in calls to GOP moderates. Instruct them to get on the damn TV and denounce the whole effort, and wash their hands of McConnell’s bullshit. You want a bipartisan bill, Apparently a good start was made at one earlier this year, but McConnell killed it.

If there is no honest and responsible process on a bipartisan bill, then GOP moderates need to get on TV and publicly denounce the whole corrupt mess.
Demand not only a ‘no’ vote, but demand no more participation in a corrupt and dishonest process.

I dunno if it’s too militant, or has unfortunate racist/sexist implications that I’m not seeing right now, but I thought it captured what I’ve been feeling as I’ve watched these incompetent, immoral bullies, grifters, and traitors try to take our rights (to vote, protest, walk down the street without fear of harassment), our money, our safety net, and our national dignity. Those’re OURS. Since there’s not much happening at the moment, maybe this would be a good time to ask a question.

So the evil nion-profit finally paid me the 1,400 they still owed me for hours worked, but they still have not paid me the $175 or so that I am owed for expense reimbursements. I have email from June 7 from the CEO saying “I will see that you are paid for this”, but it’s been over 7 weeks and I have not received it. They are also 3 weeks past the end of their fiscal year.

Repeated email messages get no reply. Texted with the president of the board one week ago today and she said she would take care of this last monday, but I have heard nothing. Called her multiple times this week and sent one email message.

    Hmmm

Major portions of the Republican bill to repeal and replace ObamaCare will require 60 votes, according to the Senate parliamentarian, meaning they are unlikely to survive on the floor.

The parliamentarian has advised senators that several parts of the bill could be stripped out, according to a document released Friday by Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.), the ranking member of the Senate Budget Committee. The provisions that would likely be removed include polices important to conservatives, such as restrictions on tax credits being used for insurance plans that cover abortion.

Language in the bill defunding Planned Parenthood for a year also violates budget rules, according to the parliamentarian. That guidance is sure to anger anti-abortion groups who backed the bill specifically because of those provisions.

Cleek’s Law strikes again. The “Hastert Rule” said they could only pass a bill if it got support from a majority of the Republican caucus, and it was observed only when the Speaker felt like using it as an excuse for killing something he didn’t like. Boehner extended it by saying a bill had to be able to pass without needing any Democratic votes, and applied it far more regularly. Ryan and McConnell seem to be following the Cleek’s Law version, which say it’s not only mandatory to be able to pass exclusively with Republican votes, but that it has to piss off the Democrats so much that they refuse to vote for it. That version is going to make legislating very, very difficult, especially when most legislation will require some Democratic votes to get cloture in the Senate.

Donald Trump’s harsh criticism of Attorney General Jeff Sessions is rattling Alabama Republicans, who are considered among the president’s staunchest and earliest supporters.

There are few places where the president is more popular than Sessions’ home state. Mobile was the site of Trump’s first big stadium-style rally in 2015, an event so pivotal in his campaign that Trump returned there in December for another rally to thank local voters.

That ardor hasn’t faded: A February poll showed Trump’s approval ratings at 88 percent among Alabama Republicans, with a stratospheric 69 percent strongly approving of his performance

The other option might be their auditor – not the auditor from the various granting agencies but the person who does their audits for the state that are required in a year when you receive more than x amount of funds. I had a really good working relationship with him, but I wasn’t sure if it would be appropriate to bring this to him or not. What do you think?

My interpretation of Cornyn’s statement is they can’t possibly get the votes for any repeal bill if anyone knows what actually in it. An appalling thing to say, but hopefully accurate.

If that’s the case, their only hope is to get enough GOP senators to fall for a line of BS like McConnell’s “don’t worry about those projected Medicaid cuts; future administrations will never actually do them.” That’s unlikely to work better than it did the last time. Goopers can be deeply stupid about almost anything but their own political survival.

Sure it may not be worth the effort but on principle……… And remember I’ve been an employer, I made out checks to pay people for decades. If I didn’t like their work I fired them. And I paid them for the full day that they came in. Not a big deal over all but they had expected to be paid for showing up and working, not being fired. An employer is trading your time and expertise for money. Did you give them the time and expertise? Then they owe you the money.
I’ll say it one more time, no matter what, if you did what you promised them you upheld your end of the contract. They have not. They owe you.
You may notice this is a point with me. People’s work furthers the goal of the company, be it a profit or non-profit. They advance their business by the sweat and effort of your labor. Their end is to pay you money.

No idea, but someone earlier pointed out that when Archibald Cox was fired the Watergate investigation did not end. On Monday morning the investigators went back to work and carried on because just like here, the underlying investigation preceded the appointment of the Special Prosecutor. To completely end the investigation, Sessions or his replacement would have to publicly order a criminal/counter intelligence investigation that began last summer, removing any pretense that it was a political witch hunt.

He asked why. The parent company, a non-profit, had a rule that if you were fired for any reason other than theft you got paid a weeks salary for each year you’d worked. That would be a 10 week bonus for me leaving. About $10,000. And I wouldn’t have had to stay another week. Double bonus. Fucker declined to fire me.
Working is a contract between the employee/sub contractor and the employer. It isn’t slavery, you have the right to leave. Yet another edition of FUCK TRUMP COUNTRY and every fucking Trump supporter still getting media attention.

This is the America that Trump embraced. The media’s Russia fixation may not be fake news in the way that Trump uses the phrase. But for millions of Americans, Trump’s claim strikes a chord because the Russia hysteria is not real news, either, not compared with the issues that impact their daily lives.

And when someone tells them they should care more deeply about Donald Trump Jr.’s meeting with a Russian lawyer, yes, sometimes they will just shake their heads and stare back blankly.

She was FURIOUS when, after working for for 5 months she gave me what she said was the standard contract for contractors, I read the contract and said I was uncomfortable with a number of clauses and I wouldn’t sign it without my attorney reviewing it first.

I said something to the effect of “I watch you have contracts reviewed and changed all the time, why would it not be okay for me to do the same with the contract you want me to sign?” Do you know what she said? (of course you don’t) Her reply, word for word: “I like to think I’m special.” She said this in all seriousness, as if because she can be charming sometimes that makes everything okay. ugh.

It was crazy, too. Her contract would have given her the right to bodily search me whenever she pleased, to search my computer, to be tested for drugs or alcohol, if she pleased, there was a bunch more crazy stuff, too. When I asked my attorney niece to look it over for me, there were several “WTF? I wouldn’t sign that” in the margins.

She is a bully and she is using your lunch money to make it work. She doesn’t own you, she may want to for her own glory but she just doesn’t. My boss doesn’t own me but I work hard for him because he respects me and my labor. He doesn’t always agree with how I do things and I’ve told him I’ll do it his way or leave, that’s my choice.

    @WaterGirl:
It helps if you have had to stand up to people all your life and had success at it. I didn’t grow much from about 5th grade till HS and grew 3 inches after HS. I got picked upon a lot. I got pissed a lot but never did anything about it. Till one day in 5th grade, a “friend” who was very tall for his age kept picking on me. One day I had had enough. I turned and offered to fight him. He didn’t believe me. So I hit him. He folded like a cheap suit. Since then I’m respectful and have never started a fight. But I learned to stand up for myself and more importantly not to be a bully. Shortly after that I met a man who worked for my father. He is one of my heroes in life. Richard is his name. He is/was a black man of about 15-20 yrs my senior. Built like an NFL player, arms as big as my thighs. Gentle as could be he taught me about getting along without being a dick or a pushover. Along with lots of other stuff. I will always be in his debt. Everyone has limits though and it’s how you handle the bullshit that matters.

@raven: Nothing more pointless — or passionate — than an argument on “you should like/hate the entertainment I like/hate and if you don’t there’s something wrong with you”.

Far be it from me to restart any of that, for instance with a comment on how I really don’t like Audrey Hepburn and could never understand why she has such rabid fans.

We’ve been seeing a lot of art house movies lately, as many or more than mainstream movies. And they seem to be really outstanding lately, just incredibly good stuff is being made. Latest one we saw was Maudie, about Nova Scotian folk artist Maude Lewis (who I’d never heard of).

And by the way, I’ve never understood the whole thing about “folk art” or “outsider art”. I’m glad she found a set of collectors willing to pay her a few bucks for her paintings (not enough to free her from poverty), and her life story is really pretty inspiring. But still, I don’t understand WHY they collected her stuff.

    More jackal fuel :-))

I think it might be easier for males to learn that than it is for females, because women are judged differently than men when they stand up for themselves. Anyway, better late than never for me!

@Ohio Mom: I tend to get distraught sounding rather than angry. Don’t know which has more impact (hah hah.) The only good out of forcing a vote that I can see is that Portman might be forced to take a public stand on something, either the motion to proceed on a mystery bill, or an actual vote. I know all he wants is to phase out Medicaid, but I can’t prove it because he never has to vote.

This thread is probably dead, but, for WaterGirl, states incorporate corporations, and there is a state agency that will regulate them. Here i.n P, it is the Corporation Bureau, it’s part of the Department of State here.

Every state’s website should have a “Doing Business Here” kind of link which should give details about incorporating there.

I think most states require corporations to list the names of officers and board members as public records too..
