Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

President Musk and Trump are both poorly raised, coddled 8 year old boys.

You can’t attract Republican voters. You can only out organize them.

Fundamental belief of white supremacy: white people are presumed innocent, minorities are presumed guilty.

I’ve spoken to my cat about this, but it doesn’t seem to do any good.

The arc of history bends toward the same old fuckery.

We still have time to mess this up!

I see no possible difficulties whatsoever with this fool-proof plan.

The fundamental promise of conservatism all over the world is a return to an idealized past that never existed.

The republican speaker is a slippery little devil.

Insiders who complain to politico: please report to the white house office of shut the fuck up.

It is possible to do the right thing without the promise of a cookie.

I would gladly pay you tuesday for a hamburger today.

Relentless negativity is not a sign that you are more realistic.

Fucking consultants! (of the political variety)

Yeah, with this crowd one never knows.

If you cannot answer whether trump lost the 2020 election, you are unfit for office.

The poor and middle-class pay taxes, the rich pay accountants, the wealthy pay politicians.

I really should read my own blog.

Let’s delete this post and never speak of this again.

A thin legal pretext to veneer over their personal religious and political desires.

“They all knew.”

Their boy Ron is an empty plastic cup that will never know pudding.

“Can i answer the question? No you can not!”

I have other things to bitch about but those will have to wait.

I’ve been traveling the past few weeks, but I’m back and I want to keep raising money for the midterm elections.

You can donate here to every Democratic nominee for the House who runs against a Republican incumbent.

Goal Thermometer

You can donate here to the guy running against Paul Ryan (Randy Bryce).

Lefties started hating Bryce almost as soon as he caught on. Convenient, that. Here’s a month-old piece from Paste about how he “turn[s] out to be just another Democrat.”

    It hasn’t aged well:

That’s not unique to Bryce, nor is it an implication specifically of his candidacy. He is, after all, a Democrat. But the obsession with rehashed Cold War talking points is an issue that continues to rear its head and suck up oxygen in the political sphere even as real issues like health care are ignored.

Let’s be clear here. There’s still been no proof offered of any collusion between the Trump campaign and the Russian government (there’s been no independently verifiable proof offered of Russian interference in the 2016 election in fact). But more importantly, the issues that Bryce appears ready to run on—like a higher minimum wage and single payer health care—are at risk of being obfuscated by the candidate’s adherence to the most outlandish of Democratic talking points.

    Hate these fuckers!

Thanks for bringing this back. I have a tab open for this thermometer and check it occasionally. It would be great if it were a semi-permanent fixture in the right column, also too.

Not to immediately go OT, but there are important local and state elections coming up this fall, also too.

Crowdpac – Unite to Flip Virginia – and the Nation is raising funds for this fall’s House of Delegates races. Ossoff raised $23+M for his House race. Numbers like that would make a huge difference in Virginia’s legislature, and likely in many other places as well. ;-) We can’t neglect races just because they aren’t for federal seats. State races will decide the 2020 Redistricting and other issues that will set the path for the country in the next decade. It’s very important.

    Eyes on the prize.

    Cheers,
    Scott.

@JPL: I’m guessing it wasn’t voluntary. The new guy, Scaramucci, is a finance guy and pretty smooth and quick on his feet IMO. Upgrade at this position. I view this move as being on par with when Conway came in. Unfortunately, the same BS but peddled more persuasively.

Interesting that given everything that has gone on Scaramucci was Spicer’s red line.

Spicer was embarrassed in Rome, and yet he persisted

But he’s been a dead man walking for weeks/months. He was going to be gone soon, one way or another. (I’m reminded of Milton’s treatment in Office Space.)

@SatanicPanic: Well, when a big piece of your entire ideology is that for-profit organizations like restaurants are automatically suspect, any burger is going to have some significant flaws, and also you’re a vegetarian, why do they keep giving you burgers, middle america is crying out for vegetarianism, why aren’t there better vegetarian offerings.

Total hail mary, but a friend of mine just recently announced for IL-15. I hope some folks will put in a little bump for that race’s nominee fund (or give to his primary campaign, also at ActBlue, Kevin Gaither). 22 year incumbent, probably not vulnerable, but I believe that if a race has a Dem challenger, it’s not insane to fund it at least a little so that a countervailing message can get out. BTW the unemployment rate in this consistently GOP district is a freakin’ 9.4% (and it’s a 92% white district).

We should not cede the contest of ideas field even if the Cook Report number is heavily against (eeep, R +21).

Also, too, I think we need to be telling folks about the grassroots funding work being done to skirt the (sometimes) bullshit of DNC, DCCC, etc establishment:

I have assumed, like many, that a pendulum swing would advantage even a radically liberal Dem party. DNC fundraising/COH gives me pause.— Noah Rothman (@NoahCRothman) July 21, 2017

@Raoul: i am in IL-13 and we have the awful Rodney Davis. Hope your guy gets some traction. I say we run someone everywhere, regardless of anything.

We have never been in this particular crazy situation before in this country, and who knows what will happen.
