From commentor and party-promoter Lahke:
I’m in Washington, DC for a conference, but free Thursday night.
I broached the idea of a meetup, and got one bite (um, caphilldcne? not sure of nym), but have been too busy to track back to that open thread to follow up.
We seemed to be coalescing around 5:30 near the White House.
Anyone who’s interested, leave a comment here, or send me an email at AnneLaurie.bj@gmail, and I’ll forward it to Lahke.

I’m many hours from DC, but I’m sad no one’s commenting here — hi, Lahke!
ET
I might be able to swing that.
On another not someone created a gif masterpiece (that I hope this link works to). It is a mash up of Austin Powers and Trump, The Mooch, and Bannon. Honestly some people have too much time on their hands. FSM love them.

If you jackals are going to be gathering for drinks near the White House, do we begin the Kickstarter for your bail money now or after the event begins? ?

@ET:
That is everything! (And I don’t even know what that means.)
PsiFighter37
You should try bringing a fistful of green balloons into Trump’s hotel and see how far that gets you :D

Post the venue and I’ll do my best to swing by after work.
Lahke
Well, it won’t be the Trumpet’s hotel, because I would not like to tempt Donnie into a constitutional transgression. But open to other ideas.
Thanks for posting this, AL!

@ET: Wow, that’s amazing.
p.a.
One person dress well, walk into any US gvt office, say you’ve been appointed Interim Associate Secretary of X. They’ll be so happy to see an actual body for the job, you’re in. Order a conference room and catering, contact the other BJ’ers and meet there.

Went out for dinner. Left two dogs and four cats behind to mind the fort. Got home and fort was still there, but EVERYONE was expecting a doggy bags, even the cats. They will be sad.

Here, and interested. Keep the updates coming.

I’m in NoVA but must opt out. I’m in bunker mode this week.
Alain the site fixer
I’ll mention this in tomorrow morning’s post. I won’t be attending.

Meet ups are such fun, wish I could go. Hope a few of you can get together.

May I suggest the Elephant & Castle on Pennsylvania Ave? We were just in DC a few weeks ago and stayed near there. Pretty decent menu and as I recall a lot of space.
It’s also spitting distance from the Old Post Office / Trump Hotel. If you need to do some spitting.
Up till a few minutes ago I thought I was actually going to be in DC on Thursday, but alas we changed our plans, put the trip off a couple weeks.
Smedley Darlington Prunebanks (Formerly Mumphrey, et al.)
Jeez, I’ve been wanting one of these for a long time, and now that there is one, it looks like I can’t make it. I’m taking my daughter to Philadelphia mañana to see her cousin, and we’re staying until Thursday, and I don’t think we’ll be back in time.

@Ceci n est pas mon nym:
True story: King George I’s two (yes, two) mistresses that he brought from Germany were nicknamed “Elephant and Castle” (sometimes “Elephant and Maypole”) by the Brits.

Last DC meet up downtown was at Fado, around 7th Street, also next to Matchbox. Closer to WH is a mostly wine bar at Café du Parc. Also Old Ebbitt but that is usually crowded. I like Tadich Grill, but it is slightly more expensive.

@zhena gogolia: Forgot to thank you for being first.’

There is a release of a preprohibition beer at Pizza paridesio on P Street at 6. I’ll be there and would love to meet other balloonists. I’ve had the beer before and it’s very good made by DC Brau.
lahke
@Barbara: So how was Fado? Quiet enough for talking? /would we need a reservation?
Someone told me that thebest food on the Mall was at the National Museum of the American Indian, but their cafe closes at 3:00. I’ll be on the Mall because I scored tix to the Nat’l Museum of African American History, yeah!
Jeffro
Can’t make it all the way in to DC on a weeknight…keep me posted if there’s a NoVA meetup soon, though!!
Barbara
@lahke: I thought Fado was fine. I can’t remember the day of the week, but it was not crowded. I think we did get a reservation so we could have a table. It depends on how many people show up. If it is fewer than six, I think we could do without the reservation at 5:30 pm, but we could make one anyway if wanted. I have never been to Elephant and Castle and could scope it out tomorrow.
ETA: Rumor has it that the Native American Museum food is not as good as it used to be. But yes, it was definitely the best museum food.
lahke
Sounds as if these are the choices so far:
Elephant and Castle
Fado
Pizza Parideso
There was one request for early (5:30) and no contrary votes there. Let’s check in with responses here and to Alain’s post in the morning, make a decision, see if we can find some green balloons and go for it. I had a lot of fun in the Boston meetups nd looking forward to meeting other Juicers.
woodrowfan
I had time to look up the spelling. It’s pizzeria Paradiso. 2003 P Street NW. That’s Dupont circle area. Heurich Lager release party. As far as I know this particular DC pizza place has never been accused of anything illegal by Alex jones.
Caphilldcne
i like Claudia’s happy hour but that is also very self serving since it’s 2 blocks from my office. I’m happy to try to make it after work (5:30?) depending on time and location. near White House works for me. If you’ve never been to the Renwick check it out beforehand as it is close to the WH and pretty awesome.
Barbara
@woodrowfan: Does that mean it is likely to be crowded? I probably can’t make Dupont Circle anyway.
Uncle Cosmo
@Barbara:
I believe that was the place we met efgoldman & mrs ef when they were in town.
If that is correct, it most definitely WAS NOT “FINE”–IT WAS LOUDER THAN A BOILER FACTORY & NO ONE COULD BE HEARD MORE THAN 2 FEET AWAY EVEN WHEN SHOUTING!!!!! i was sitting next to ef & could hardly hear a word he said. Utterly worthless as a “meetup” place unless you’re all fluent in Ameslan.
That said, suit yourselves. I have too much to do before leaving for the Left Coast next week to make the trek down from Bawlmer.
Barbara
@Uncle Cosmo: Maybe I left early. I don’t remember it being that loud. We had a table way in the corner in a room that was mostly empty. But really, I am happy to go elsewhere. I will take a look at Elephants, etc. tomorrow. It’s close to where I work.
ETA: Del Frisco’s is also close by. I’ll take a look there as well.
woodrowfan
@Barbara: good question. I did not think of that. I’ve not eaten there before so I do not know how big it is.
