Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

… pundit janitors mopping up after the GOP

Let’s delete this post and never speak of this again.

No one could have predicted…

Good lord, these people are nuts.

We still have time to mess this up!

In my day, never was longer.

You don’t get to peddle hatred on saturday and offer condolences on sunday.

You cannot shame the shameless.

The GOP couldn’t organize an orgy in a whorehouse with a fist full of 50s.

Pessimism assures that nothing of any importance will change.

When I decide to be condescending, you won’t have to dream up a fantasy about it.

I’d hate to be the candidate who lost to this guy.

Something needs to be done about our bogus SCOTUS.

Republicans are radicals, not conservatives.

When do we start airlifting the women and children out of Texas?

I’ve spoken to my cat about this, but it doesn’t seem to do any good.

Impressively dumb. Congratulations.

Meanwhile over at truth Social, the former president is busy confessing to crimes.

Not all heroes wear capes.

Anyone who bans teaching American history has no right to shape America’s future.

After roe, women are no longer free.

Not so fun when the rabbit gets the gun, is it?

Insiders who complain to politico: please report to the white house office of shut the fuck up.

They are lying in pursuit of an agenda.

Man, is it just me or most modern cars boring and sucky, style wise? I swear, I see a model I like only to find out it’s been discontinued like 6 years ago. Or they got an ugly redesign. I feel like this always happens to me. And I don’t want to get a used car either. Don’t have the capital, a few grand, to blow on a used car. Wouldn’t want to either. Last thing I need is for it breakdown while I’m driving it.

All I want is new car to lease that I like and can afford.

A new car, prefably a sedan. A two-door sports truck would be cool too. My price range is 220/mo or lower; less than 200 would be great. I like the way the Ford Focus used to look: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ford_Focus_(second_generation,_North_America)

For a truck, something like this:

It’s much cheaper and quicker to boost the mileage by 10% by reshaping the body than by redesigning the engine and transmission. Although they’re doing that too. The wind tunnel makes them all look the same.

I read somewhere (could have been here) that the upswept rear windows and terrible rear quarter sight lines are because of a recent increase in rollover protection regs that caused mfrs to beef up the rear roof pillars.

I wonder that too. It’s much harder to spot cars in my blind spot now than in my previous car. With mirrors properly set and peripheral vision I didn’t have a traditional blind spot – I could see something of any car in the adjacent lanes. Now, there’s no way to do that. Same make, but one before the beefed-up pillars and one after.

@Yarrow: I liked the Play that Goes Wrong.

Not sold on Dear Evan Hanson. It will have a long life as a high school musical. After The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Night Time and Hand of God, I’m kind of over the mentally ill teenage boy story.

The cast of the Miss Saigon revival is very good, and it’s worth seeing for Jon Jon Briones as the Engineer. But…that’s another revival where the topic seems a bit dated.

    Second, who would want him?
Third, who the fuck cares if he or anyone else goes to church?
Fourth, who the fucks business is it if anyone goes to church? Or Not?

    @Fair Economist:
My yr old Ford Focus has a blind spot mirror. Took about 2 days to get used to it. It’s just a little spot mirror in the outer corner of the side mirrors. Doesn’t get in the way and works wonders for blind spots. The car had backup camera and parking alarm and I told them I didn’t want it, so they took it off the price. Turns out it is great! And yes you can turn off the alarm if you want. Would be nice if the picture was bigger but I’m used to backing with mirrors so it works out. I get the EPA mileage which is far, far, far better than my last vehicle, a full size V8 van. Could it be better? Sure what car couldn’t? But it’s still one of the better cars that I’ve owned or leased and there have been quite a few of those.

The dies for the earlier cars weren’t build using computers. All duplicated using models. I worked on Barbie doll molds (among many other things) as a teenager and we made them completely from models. Not live models, no one is built like that in real life, including the wife of the owner of Mattel, who the doll was supposed to be fashioned after.

The use of Tiki torches by the Nazis — shows how damned ignorant these idiots are. Tiki is a wooden carving of a GOD — found throughout the Pacific Islands. The ones I know best are the various Tiki GODS and Goddesses from Hawaii. We have a Tiki God — KU on our sailboat. The tiki was carved by a local in Hawaii, who was honoring the old ways.

The damned Nazis can’t be original — hateful bastards.

Dude, I feel what your saying and am really picky about features & what fits “me” but get a Honda CR-V, Toyota Rav4, or a Mazda CX-5, certified pre-owned!

They’re all three stylish, compact crossover SUV’s with great gas mileage, roomy interiors and fantastic driving suspension. I’ve had the latter (Mazda) CX 5 SPORT trim, my first car, since last February 2016 and absolutely love it. Its also a primo ride for taller peeps if your over 6′, like I am!

@Ruckus: “The dies for the earlier cars weren’t build using computers. All duplicated using models.”

Only prototype dies were made from models, by Metal Model Makers. (My husband was one, until the carpal tunnel got too bad.) Production tooling was developed by Die Designers, who drew the blueprints for the tooling on drafting boards. (My dad was one.) So people could handle designing dies with curves, but early CAD systems could not.
