What happened to all that Right Wing anger about the costs of Presidential travel? https://t.co/GL6pND9RM0

— Dan Pfeiffer (@danpfeiffer) August 21, 2017

The Secret Service is broke from ferrying a family of kleptocrats around to their chain of $200k-buys-direct-access-to-the-President clubs.

— Local Milk Steak (@ZeddRebel) August 21, 2017

another successful trump bankruptcy! https://t.co/O821hOGGw6

— darth:™ (@darth) August 21, 2017

Not really that he has a large family, it’s that he has more of his family getting details. Adult children of POTUS typically don’t. https://t.co/SkXsmuE0mA

— Dana Houle (@DanaHoule) August 21, 2017

Under Trump, 42 people have Secret Service protection, including 18 family members. Under Obama, it was only 31. https://t.co/1dZyVpDgnT

— Daniel W. Drezner (@dandrezner) August 21, 2017

But seriously the Secret Service running out of $$ means Congress needs to appropriate more. Which means Hill Dems have even more leverage

— Will Caskey (@WillCaskey) August 21, 2017

Dems should propose a provision that to qualify for Secret Service protection you have to make public your 5 most recent federal tax returns https://t.co/bkQ2NFb27J

— Dana Houle (@DanaHoule) August 21, 2017

We pay for Obama's travel so he can fundraise millions so Democrats can run on lies. Then we pay for his golf.

— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) October 14, 2014

Somehow the Secret Service didn't run out of money the first 7 months of the Obama administration. pic.twitter.com/KFcQzt2giX

— Schooley (@Rschooley) August 21, 2017

Secret Service has enough funding to perform duties through September https://t.co/nRNQ0qh0wS pic.twitter.com/IiqyIfmTyF

should be enough time for trump to move out tbh https://t.co/Ff63RKRhA8

Doesn’t Mango Mussolini still have his private security thugs, because the Secret Service wouldn’t know how to protect anybody, right?

Maybe the solution is for congress to change the law. Why do tweedledee, Tweetledum and Lucretia need protection underwritten by the taxpayer? They are all supposedly millionaires, they can furnish their own protection.

@schrodingers_cat: conflation of trump’s “local milk people”, IIRC from his phone call with the PM of Australia?, and a joke from It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia– that guy likes to change his handle a lot

I really don’t think he’s going to last until the end of the year. This guy is now so poisonous that nobody wants to have anything to do with him but the people who have crawled up his ass so far that they have nowhere else left to go. I think he’s going to pull up stakes and, like Sarah Palin, he’s quitting because he isn’t a quitter, and only quitters keep at the job until it’s done.

    Please. Please. Please.

The Secret Service budget is being blown not just because of payments to Secret Service members BUT BECAUSE THEY HAVE TO PAY TRUMP RENTAL AT HIS PROPERTIES AND FOR RIDES ON HIS PLANE.

Trump is literally making a profit on the agents who are there to protect him. You’d think that he’s forego rental at his own proper-HAHAHAHAHAHA.

Of course, the Secret Service Director had to walk back his comments later in the day

Later on Monday, Director Randolph “Tex” Alles issued a statement via a spokesman saying, “This issue is not one that can be attributed to the current Administration’s protection requirements, but rather has been an ongoing issue for nearly a decade due to an overall increase in operational tempo.”

In his later statement, Alles said the Secret Service has sufficient funding to “meet all current mission requirements” through the remainder of the fiscal year. He said roughly 1,100 Secret Service employees are expected to hit their compensation cap for 2017, a situation similar to 2016.

@TenguPhule: They already are working without being paid. Presumably they will eventually get paid, although it apparently requires special legislation. When it’s happened before, Congress coughed up the dough. But that was back in the day when Congress more of less functioned. I venture no opinion on how this will work out.
