Wish I could be there. But I’ll be in Maine. Going with the guy I met this weekend last year. Our first date was an early morning walk across the Brooklyn Bridge before I headed to Phili to canvas for Hillary. That didn’t work out so well, but one year later he and I are still going strong!
Mike in NC
No plans to meet up outside Trump’s Tacky Tower? Sad!
MomSense
@RedDirtGirl:
Woo hoo! Where in Maine? I can give you some locals tips.
BethanyAnne
ok, very off topic, but I’m fine and dry here in Houston. Mom hasn’t been flooded or anything, either. The tornado that hit Katy was on the other side of the freeway from her. So, all good, and fingers crossed for the next few days. Hoping for the best for the folk around me.
RedDirtGirl
@MomSense: It’s actually my old stomping ground. My family has an old farmhouse on an island off Mt. Desert Island. Where are you?
BethanyAnne
Now for the tough decisions… Skyrim or Fallout? Hmmm, Blackreach, or The Institute?
RedDirtGirl
@BethanyAnne: @BethanyAnne: Safety reports are NEVER off topic! Glad you and yours are doing okay!
RedDirtGirl
My morning is consisting of sawing apart an old sofa. I missed getting the whole thing curbside for bulk pick-up. Now I’m breaking it down into pieces under 4′ x 3′ so I can put it with the regular trash. Yay for me.
BethanyAnne
@RedDirtGirl: That sounds sweat and unfun. Hopefully there’s iced tea and a nap on the other side of that couch.
MomSense
@RedDirtGirl:
I’m in Rockland for the weekend. I spend a lot of time in Bar Harbor though. If you can, try Havana. Delicious food
MomSense
@BethanyAnne:
Glad you are ok. Any news from Corpus Christie. I’m in a news free zone- too upsetting for my parents right now.
Robin Gittelman
I’m going to try to make it, since I really enjoyed the last NYC meet up I attended
Major Major Major Major
Ok, it’s on my calendar!
@BethanyAnne: never saw what the big deal was with the institute. But that whole game just had no immediacy for me. Sad! (Same problem with Skyrim tbh)
WaterGirl
@MomSense: I find that when things are too unsettled in my life I sometimes watch the last 5 minutes of a suspenseful show first because I have already reached the limit of how much “not knowing” I can take.
celiadexter
I’m in, hopefully with my better half,
RedDirtGirl
@BethanyAnne: It is now broken down. Just have to get some heavy-duty trash bags to put it all in. Thinking of rinsing off with a swim in the Red Hook outdoor pool!
Vheidi
I’m going to the Open Friday, but I think they throw you out so I’ll try to make it
debbie
@WaterGirl:
I do that with books sometimes. I’ve only regretted it once.
Mnemosyne
@BethanyAnne:
Letting people know you’re safe after a natural disaster is never off topic! Glad to hear that both you and your mom made it through the storm okay.
efgoldman
Wish I were healthier. I’d get on the train or bus and join you. But no travelling yet, probably not for a while.
Mnemosyne
Our cleaning people had to come super late today (11 am) so rather than leaving the cats boxed up, I came into the craft room with them and let them out of their carriers. Keaton is sprawled out on the couch with me, napping, but Charlotte is hiding behind one of the couch cushions because there are strangers on the other side of the door. Silly kitty.

@efgoldman:
There apparently are such things as dialysis cruises, so the whole family can enjoy a vacation but the person on dialysis doesn’t have to miss a session. My mom was hoping to go on one with my dad, but he wasn’t much of a cruise person.
Mike in Pasadena
OT: I noticed Andrew Sullivan lecturing the left for being intolerant of free speech (see Boston). He should know — he was the one who advocated people opposing the invasion of Iraq be tried for treason. May he fry in hell! I have never read one of his columns since. (Yeah, I know he recanted, sort of, in a W Bush kind of non-apology-apology way. Non apology not accepted. Send the fucker back to England.)
BethanyAnne
@MomSense: Sorry, I don’t know much about Corpus Christie right now. It got hit pretty hard. I’ve got some folk there that I’m concerned about; hoping they ran early.
PsiFighter37
I’ll be there, assuming something work-related doesn’t pop up. Last one of these I went to was in Seattle 4 years ago. Someone bringing the green balloons?
Gin & Tonic
@Major Major Major Major: How about one in Silicon Valley or thereabouts? I will be in Sunnyvale or Campbell Sep 11-13.
BethanyAnne
@Major Major Major Major: You know, it’s so odd sometimes which games grab you. I can recognize that Witcher 3, for instance, is a great game. But I could never get into it. Not even sure why. Fallout 4, though, I’m 4k hours in, and still playing. No clue why on that, either.
efgoldman
@Mnemosyne:
They provide hemodialysis (the kind where you go to the center 3x a week and get hooked up to a big machine). I’m doing home peritoneal dialysis 4x daily – I need a minimum of supplies, and i can get them wherever I go. I’m just not strong enough to travel yet.
I’m interested to see how I feel on Monday night. I have my first PT session in the afternoon, and we’re going out to dinner in the evening.
Redshift
I finally did the DNC “Unity” survey, and have them this for the open-ended comment:
raven
@Mike in Pasadena: I heard enough here about the dork all morning.
Riley's Enabler
Off topic check in from southwest of Houston. We are ok. Power was off for about 15 hours but is on now. Tornado touched down and did serious damage to the neighborhood but missed my block. Watching the Brazos now, flooding could be the next issue, or perhaps not. Anyway, kiddo and I are fine and safe.
WaterGirl
@Redshift: Nice! I left them along comment, too, when I took the survey yesterday. Mine was not very well done and was pretty scold-y:
Major Major Major Major
@BethanyAnne: witcher 3 is my next purchase. Best games I’ve played lately by a long measure are Horizon Zero Dawn (omg fuck Ted Faro!) and Breath of the Wild.
@Gin & Tonic: We could probably figure something out!
FlyingToaster
@Redshift: @WaterGirl: I just left them the same message. The DNC ought to be about more than the presidential elections. Jeebus.
Now over to the politics e-mail address to unsubscribe/define as spam the incoming…

Wish you are doing this Sat or Sun. I can’t make it on Friday.?
Thoughtful David
Corpus Christie is a bloated thing up in New Jersey.
Corpus Christi is town in Texas under assault by hurricane Harvey.
Abe Seeman
Move it to August 30th, I’m leaving the 31st to London! ☹️
Major Major Major Major
@Abe Seeman: I won’t be there until the 31st ?
BethanyAnne
@Major Major Major Major: Horizon Zero Dawn was amazing. Whatcha bet Faro is alive in cryo?
BethanyAnne
@Thoughtful David: pfft, lol
Ew, tornado warning just buzzed on the phone. Blarpngfghm.
BethanyAnne
oh, goody, an active tornado between me and Mom
BethanyAnne
ok, maybe it has dissipated? Can’t find news of it now
la caterina (Mrs. Johannes)
@celiadexter: Me too! And probably Johannes if he can make it back from Albany in time. See you there. Bring lots of kitteh pics on your phone.
Ivan X
I’ll come by because the last NYC meetup I attended I had a herniated disc in my back so I wasn’t having the most amazing of times. This time better!
DianeB
Delurking to add two more to the meet up. Promised the mister he’d be around intelligent, witty people who don’t care much for the orange-crested-shitgibbon either. He’s relieved he won’t have to whisper invectives at the plants while screwing a “why would I think you’re an a$$hole for voting for him?” look on his face. :)
JAFD
I should be there, ghod willin’ and the Passaic don’t rise. Am the 6′ guy with lotsa brown hair and a white goatee (Am not foolish enuf to get hair cut in the week before Labor Day). Hope to be seeing some of you again, and some for first time.
For other Friday night activities in that neighborhood, the fall schedule for the New York Military Affairs Symposium is up at nymas.org, in case anyone’s interested.
Have great week!
Doris
@BethanyAnne: Good to know a Juicer and Mom are OK. Stay safe!
