Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Welcome to day five of every-bit-as-bad-as-you-thought-it-would-be.

Democracy cannot function without a free press.

JFC, are there no editors left at that goddamn rag?

You are either for trump or for democracy. Pick one.

President Musk and Trump are both poorly raised, coddled 8 year old boys.

My right to basic bodily autonomy is not on the table. that’s the new deal.

How any woman could possibly vote for this smug smarmy piece of misogynistic crap is beyond understanding.

When we show up, we win.

Something needs to be done about our bogus SCOTUS.

Reality always lies in wait for … Democrats.

Shut up, hissy kitty!

The fight for our country is always worth it. ~Kamala Harris

Let’s bury these fuckers at the polls 2 years from now.

The real work of an opposition party is to hold the people in power accountable.

Fight them, without becoming them!

Narcissists are always shocked to discover other people have agency.

Let me file that under fuck it.

You come for women, you’re gonna get your ass kicked.

Republicans are the party of chaos and catastrophe.

Dear media: perhaps we ought to let Donald Trump speak for himself!

It’s easy to sit in safety and prescribe what other people should be doing.

The worst democrat is better than the best republican.

“Perhaps I should have considered other options.” (head-desk)

Pessimism assures that nothing of any importance will change.

Wish I could be there. But I’ll be in Maine. Going with the guy I met this weekend last year. Our first date was an early morning walk across the Brooklyn Bridge before I headed to Phili to canvas for Hillary. That didn’t work out so well, but one year later he and I are still going strong!

ok, very off topic, but I’m fine and dry here in Houston. Mom hasn’t been flooded or anything, either. The tornado that hit Katy was on the other side of the freeway from her. So, all good, and fingers crossed for the next few days. Hoping for the best for the folk around me.

My morning is consisting of sawing apart an old sofa. I missed getting the whole thing curbside for bulk pick-up. Now I’m breaking it down into pieces under 4′ x 3′ so I can put it with the regular trash. Yay for me.

Our cleaning people had to come super late today (11 am) so rather than leaving the cats boxed up, I came into the craft room with them and let them out of their carriers. Keaton is sprawled out on the couch with me, napping, but Charlotte is hiding behind one of the couch cushions because there are strangers on the other side of the door. Silly kitty.

There apparently are such things as dialysis cruises, so the whole family can enjoy a vacation but the person on dialysis doesn’t have to miss a session. My mom was hoping to go on one with my dad, but he wasn’t much of a cruise person.

OT: I noticed Andrew Sullivan lecturing the left for being intolerant of free speech (see Boston). He should know — he was the one who advocated people opposing the invasion of Iraq be tried for treason. May he fry in hell! I have never read one of his columns since. (Yeah, I know he recanted, sort of, in a W Bush kind of non-apology-apology way. Non apology not accepted. Send the fucker back to England.)

There apparently are such things as dialysis cruises, so the whole family can enjoy a vacation but the person on dialysis doesn’t have to miss a session.

They provide hemodialysis (the kind where you go to the center 3x a week and get hooked up to a big machine). I’m doing home peritoneal dialysis 4x daily – I need a minimum of supplies, and i can get them wherever I go. I’m just not strong enough to travel yet.
I’m interested to see how I feel on Monday night. I have my first PT session in the afternoon, and we’re going out to dinner in the evening.

I finally did the DNC “Unity” survey, and have them this for the open-ended comment:

Since I do understand the role of the DNC, I feel that too much of this survey is pandering to people who don’t and falsely blame the DNC for their troubles. The DNC just doesn’t have much to do with elections directly.

I like closed primaries just fine, though states should be encouraged to make it easier to change party registration to participate. I have no sympathy for those who think independents must be allowed to vote if we’re going to get their support. All you have to do is check a box that says Democrat; if not doing that is more important to you than participating, we’re not obligated to let you help choose the candidate for the Democratic Party.

Off topic check in from southwest of Houston. We are ok. Power was off for about 15 hours but is on now. Tornado touched down and did serious damage to the neighborhood but missed my block. Watching the Brazos now, flooding could be the next issue, or perhaps not. Anyway, kiddo and I are fine and safe.

    August 26, 2017 at 3:41 pm

@Redshift: Nice! I left them along comment, too, when I took the survey yesterday. Mine was not very well done and was pretty scold-y:

I don’t like the wording of your questions about superdelegates. In normal situations, YES, all delegates should vote the way the people in the state voted. However, 2016 was not a normal situation, and there’s no point in having delegates at all if they are not going to step up and prevent an unbalanced person from being given the presidency. My priorities for the DNC don’t even show up on your list! Fighting voter suppression, eliminating the electoral college, helping people get registered to vote, starting NOW. Those should be the priority. Your questions are written from the perspective of the DNC organization; try looking at the world from the perspective of the democratic voters.

Delurking to add two more to the meet up. Promised the mister he’d be around intelligent, witty people who don’t care much for the orange-crested-shitgibbon either. He’s relieved he won’t have to whisper invectives at the plants while screwing a “why would I think you’re an a$$hole for voting for him?” look on his face. :)
