Balloon Juice

Come for the politics, stay for the snark.

Their shamelessness is their super power.

Dear media: perhaps we ought to let Donald Trump speak for himself!

Of course you can have champagne before noon. That’s why orange juice was invented.

It’s the corruption, stupid.

Too often we hand the biggest microphones to the cynics and the critics who delight in declaring failure.

This year has been the longest three days of putin’s life.

Beware of advice from anyone for whom Democrats are “they” and not “we.”

Usually wrong but never in doubt

Our messy unity will be our strength.

Black Jesus loves a paper trail.

Fear and negativity are contagious, but so is courage!

There are a lot more evil idiots than evil geniuses.

If a good thing happens for a bad reason, it’s still a good thing.

The National Guard is not Batman.

They spent the last eight months firing professionals and replacing them with ideologues.

If you can’t control your emotions, someone else will.

A tremendous foreign policy asset… to all of our adversaries.

Let there be snark.

We cannot abandon the truth and remain a free nation.

Republican also-rans: four mules fighting over a turnip.

Radicalized white males who support Trump are pitching a tent in the abyss.

Is it irresponsible to speculate? It is irresponsible not to.

Speaker Mike Johnson is a vile traitor to the House and the Constitution.

The next time the wall street journal editorial board speaks the truth will be the first.

Thank you, Adam! So kind of you considering all you must be dealing with right now.

    How are things going?

Adam, I was seeing people mention that Adam is potentially in the path of the hurricanes. Is that you or some other Adam?

edit: based on Kathleen’s comment at #1, I’m thinking this must be you. Stay safe.

edit 2: We’re all counting on you. (n/t Airplane)

@Alternative Fax, a hip hop artist from Idaho: When did you start referring to yourself in the third person? You know who else did that? :-)

P.S. Hi Bella Q! Hoping you received my reply to your message last week.

I am 502 miles from the Wood Fired Grill.

I will not be attending the meet-up. I just like playing with Google Maps.

I’ve been lurking here in Dayton for almost 10 years……I’m going to *try* to make it but I cannot be certain. I have an 8 week-old child (first time being a dad!) and he appears to have more control over my social life than I thought he’d have…..

@Steeplejack: I was considering it, because I don’t mind long drives; it’s just over 4 hours each way for me. But, it’s a market day for me and those end at 3. So I’m sending my regrets. Next time!

@Kathleen: @WaterGirl: It is me. I am Florida’s last hope. The plan is to place me directly in the path of the storm smack dab in the center of the Florida straits and have me push the storm back into the Atlantic. I’ve been doing monster squats and core exercises to get ready. Also remembering to hydrate!

More seriously, I’m on the west coast. While the major European model has the storm going just to the east of center of the state, the major US model has it about 30 miles or so farther east and going right up the east coast. The combined track (forecast of forecasts) by the National Hurricane Center has the storm forecast much closer to the US model than the European. That said it won’t be until the 1100 update tomorrow that we’ll have the first 3 day forecast for Florida. This will significantly reduce the uncertainty. We are just about ready here at the house to either ride things out if it goes up the east coast or to get out ahead of the storm if it jumps the forecasts and goes up the west coast. We are coordinating with my brother who is actually a specialist on hurricanes effects on wetlands. So he knows what he’s looking at. We’ll make the appropriate call at the appropriate time. Until then there’s nothing else we can do and no reason to succumb to anxiety. We know what to do depending on what the storm does and we’ll do it.

    Thanks for asking.

    @satby:

I love road trips! Big tragedy a couple of years ago was when I was in the running to drive a friend’s car from D.C. to Portland, OR, after he took a new job and had to start right away. The car transfer service was flaking out, and I was hyping myself up with logistics and route planning, but then they unflaked at the last minute. I was bummed. Portland is one of my favorite cities, and I haven’t been there since probably 1990.

@Steeplejack: You might want to pass on Portland, probably the entire Pacific Northwest right now. The air quality reminds me of LA when I was a kid.

@efgoldman: Yep. If we need to go, if it is even in question, we’ll go. If the storm follows the US forecast and goes up the east coast/just off the east coast we’ll be fine where we’re at. If it goes up the center of the state or up the west coast we’ll go north out of the state.

@debbie: it’s late so you see the answer . She was refusing to pay me the final reimbursement of 124.00, saying she didn’t owe it to me . It was for reimbursement for payroll for 174 people that final month so I called the payroll company to request documentation that would show me the 174 people were so I could prove that it was for her people. Soon as I explain the situation they said they would just refund me the 124.00 so I wouldn’t have to deal with it . So I guess I got my money but now I did not get it from Sally . Thanks for asking.

Long-time lurker here. I stumbled upon BJ just about the time John Cole saw the light re: republicanism, and have been reading it ever since.
BJ’s been keeping me sane, especially in recent times. Although I’ve been here in the US since 1999, I only became a US citizen in April: the election saw to that. The various rants, most prominently those by Betty Cracker, on the state of the country and the idiocy of the Nazi-in-chief, warm one’s cockles.

In short, I’m looking forward to being there at ~ 4pm tomorrow. I live in Loveland, and it’s but a short drive.
